Quincy Bell 412

Recommended Posts

As many did back in the day, I jumped the Bell 412 at Quincy. A 1997 picture shows the tail number N412AC. HOWEVER, if you look up N412AC in the FAA database, it shows a 412EP with a manufacture year of 2003. How does this work? Was the aircraft remanufactured or semething? I'm sure there is a logical explanation. Or ......... perhaps I was jumping in the Twilight Zone?
Peace,
-Dawson.

The original N number was probably changed. Not unusual for an aircraft involved in an accident.

412EC is the MODEL number of an aircraft.
N412AC is the registration number.

N412AC is undoubtedly a "vanity" registration number for Air Center Helicopters, Inc.

The aircraft involved in the accident was N464AC and was owned by Air Center Helicopters at the time of the accident.

Here are the reports.

The logical conclusion to draw from this is Air Center Helicopters must have operated more than one helicopter at Rantoul and over the years has replaced N412AC with a newer model.

So if I own a Cessna with tail number N6969A and I get a different aircraft, I can "transfer" N6969A to my recent purchase? Then what? I have to apply for a new tail number for the Cessna?

Thank you, sir. The process seems relatively easy. Does that ever cause problems with people "burying" an N number of an aircraft, say to hide an incident?

Maybe to superficial searches, but anyone that knows how to search the records can probably find it.

If you're talking about being able to hide an incident from the FAA by swapping tail numbers, that's probably not your best strategy.

Hey Max...

I remember one year early 2000's... Marcus spent the entire Quincy jumping that helicopter and made like 67 jumps. Told him, he was either insane, rich or both.
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Oh what a ride it was... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utXefB9rzIc&feature=related I don't think any ride to altitude is near as much fun as Rod made it!

You can say that again! I rode it twice at the '97 WFFC! Best ride hands down.
