I thought there wasn't any money to be made in skydiving...

there's not, but there isa qyite a bit to be made in Commercial Tandem Parachitung.
The guys who bought this, are not dumbies ;) they own quite a lot of Tandem operations here in OZ (and my sport DZ) and recently listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. :)
This new endevour is their 1st step in Global domination :D:D
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)

There is for tandem farms. They charge ridiculous prices for solo skydivers and students, and I fear nothing will change after the sale.

It's a shame, New Zealand is a fantastically beautiful country, but it has very slim pickings when it comes to sports-jumper friendly DZ's.

15,000ft $439 New Zealand Dollar EXOSFEAR / 200KPH
12,000ft $339 New Zealand Dollar STRATOSFEAR / 200KPH
9,000ft $299 New Zealand Dollar TROPOSFEAR / 200KPH

They have a lot of video sales too.

Photos $189
Videos $189
USB Combo $229

Exchange rate for NZD to USD today is 1 USD = 1.49755 NZD - That puts the $229 NZD as costing $159 US and the $439 tandem is $290 US.

Seem pretty reasonable considering....

"During the last financial year it conducted 23,055 tandem jumps, generating revenues of $11.4 million."

I'm not sure how much it would change the bottom line but revenue is just $ in the door. It does not account for expenses or money out the door for employees, fuel, equiptment etc. Once you subtract all of that you would have net profits - which could still be high.
