Is you contention that evil exists due to the free will of human beings?

To answer that question ne must first agree on how you define 'Evil'?

I would say yes, as I understand evil it can only exist in an environment with beings that possess free will.

Sure, freedom is the basis of evil and good. All free will choices have an effect. Some choices lead one towards God, other choices lead away from God.

But evil seems to exist as long we have had history, so if evil is the result of free will then history seems t be telling us its pretty much in human nature for evil to occur.

Not really, if Evil is biblical type evil, it needs to be defined as sucg.

That is how the Bible describes us after our ancestors gained the ability to explore the knowledge of good and evil. As a species, it looks like we bit off more than we could chew.
