JackC 0 #26 November 11, 2009 Quote Quote Here's a wall I'd like to break down. The one that allowed an unelected prime minister to get the keys to number 10 without holding an election. UK has never elected a Prime Minister; never. The ruling party does, always has. If you want to live in a republic you can always move to France. Officially. Unofficially, the leader of a party makes a big difference to their electability. In Jack's Britain, any serving PM who stands down would trigger a general election to be held not more than 6 weeks later. The deputy PM would take over in the interim. There would be no uncontested coronations.

Most would describe the Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries as socialist. What freedoms are they missing?... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. nerdgirl 0 #28 November 11, 2009 QuoteQuoteWhich walls still have to come down across the world? On a more serious note....walls that stand in the way of what? I think that a good question. When I wrote the OP I was thinking of political and electronic freedom. But one could imagine other possibilities. Beyond your neighbor's fence, do you have anything in mind? /Marg Act as if everything you do matters, while laughing at yourself for thinking anything you do matters. SkyDekker 1,152 #29 November 12, 2009 QuoteWhen I wrote the OP I was thinking of political and electronic freedom. That's assuming that political and electronic freedom is what we should be striving for. I'm not saying it isn't, but that is a big assumption to make. "Total" capitalism and "total" communism have proven not to work, for me the jury is out on Socialism. I'm personally more of a conservative, but believe certain controls need to be in place. Some might see controls as a wall in the way of total freedom. Some walls maybe should not come down.
