Holy crap, it's Ron Schott! And NOT his desk! :o:D

I'm not CSA material Ron, and still have zero interest in becoming such, but it's good to see you post this anyhow. Hope things are well. :)

See, I wouldn't want you in the audience in a stand-up comedy club. The comic would crack a joke about a talking gorilla. Then you'd rise from your seat and very politely say, "Excuse me, kind sir, but I don't believe simians are physiologically adapted to form the complex dipthongs and fricatives necessary for conventional spoken language." There'd be a brief pause as everyone in the club would become totally silent for a moment, then the bouncers would gently escort you to the door.

Yeah, I know. That's why I have never gone to a comedy club. I watch the Comedy Channel now and then. I usually fall asleep. :|

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the kind words. I am doing well for an old retired fart. Finally gave up being a substance abuse counselor on 13 Feb 09. B|

If Jesus did come back a second time, don't you think the last thing the poor guy would want to see is all the crucifix's all over?

Yes. Step One: I admitted I was powerless over funding sources and the avalanche of paperwork and my life had become unmanageable. :S

Hi Ron, good to see you on these forums. I'm the guy who put csa on myspace. If you have seen the page, and have any suggestions, just let me know! http://www.myspace.com/christianskydivers

Hello, thanks for connecting. As you know we lost the CSA site on AOL. I need to set up a new site but things have been a bit hectic on my end. My mom has Alzheimer's and the past three years have been concentrated on stabilizing her. I have broadband now and new PC equipment. Hopefully, I can get refocused.

But my question is--if you were an instructor and you had a student who wrote in a fourth answer saying "(d) Jesus Christ" has ultimate responsibility for their skydive and for ensuring they get a good canopy above their heads--how would you respond?

When the Quatar para rescue team came to Skydive Deland, they had the hardest time teaching them to use their reserve. They were devout muslim, and all believed that if their main didn't open, it was Gods will They had to be ordered by their senior officer to use their reserve if necesary. And they had to teach them, that if their reserve failed it was gods will, not their main. Thats what I call serious devotion to Religion.

That is similar to the SF story of training Turkish paratroopers on combat jumps. As the story goes the troops were being briefed on a 600 ft jump run altitude. This seemed to produce some concern and the SF sargeant reassured them that the main parachute had sufficient time to deploy at that altitude. To which a great relief was exclaimed, "Oh, we are going to use parachutes."

Ron, you are almost with me. You're just one god away from being an atheist.

That is a subject of some debate actually.

Some would say that a Christian is actually three gods away from being an atheist.

By your user name I assume your worship creation, destruction and good luck.:D Just curious, it's really a neat handle.

Creation and destruction only in the sense that one sometimes needs to destroy undesirable old habits in the process of creating new ones. Actually I started using this handle a few years back when I was interested in a particular guru from India who was very big on Siva and Ganesha. I saw this guru again last weekend--for the first time in five years--in San Francisco and was much less impressed this time around.

Also as I noted in another thread I gave up dabbling in Eastern religions for Lent. Though I don't know whether I should continue this or not--last weekend I noticed (for the first time) that there is actually a DZ Buddha in an out of the way corner of my DZ.

I studied Eastern religions considerably in the 70's and was always left wanting. I found common sense and wisdom in the teachings but there was always another test, another level. They all have the principles of heirarchy of attainment and concentric inner circles. No matter where you are, it is never good enough. I was looking for and needed peace of mind and reassurance.
