Meet Bono? No thanks!

Recommended Posts

Good. I found it embarrassing the way our previous "leadership" used to always want to be seen with him.
My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I agree too.. more cringe worthy stuff. But that's what some of the public want with their celebrity- centric worlds.
In essence, I have no problem with people from any walk of life entering into political debate, it's just the motives of some of them that appear to be questionable.

It's about time one of these leaders took themselves seriously enough to send the carpet bagging popstar packing.

That would be "Sir" Carpet bagging popstar;)
But, not to interrupt the bashfest but I guess I have two questions.
1) What your problem with Bono? Is it him or the charity work that he does?
2) Is there any truth to the article's claim that Canada's PM is trying to block accountability for promised aid?

I am not a U2 fan, but as far as I know Bono has actually helped raise money that has helped a lot of people. I wish more Celebs used their powers of persuasion like he does. Most tend to use it to get there way or out of trouble.

For a rich guy he sure does focus a lot of time on spending public money, second only to tax avoidance on his list of priorities.

Do you realize how many individual people, businesses, and government leaders the above describes? The difference is nature of the work that they do and who profits from the efforts.

I agree. He seems to have done his homework and has consistently lobbied for his causes, for quite some time. Most celebrities make token appearances, giving the impression they are mainly interested in boasting their image.

Hold on there NC, the universe is about to shift as I agree that most celebs are only in it for the photo op. Bono is consistent and has done alot of good. I am happy that people with AIDS are getting the help they need but, sad that the focus is only on Africa when there are many right here in the US who get zero medical care and are not eligible to recieve medication, myself being one of those people. I would like to see a portion of my tax dollars come back to help myself and others here in the US. Sucks being a minority that no one gives a damn about.

Given the choice between Bono and almost any politician (including Harper), I'd credit Bono with doing far more for humanity and being far less self-serving.

I like Bono's music. But that's where my admiration for him stops. I do not care for his politics and do not care for his vision of world socialism. For someone with so much individual wealth to be telling my elective representative that they need to tax me even more (as if we here in Canada aren't being taxed enough by all 3 tiers of governments) so that my elective representatives send more money to Bono's pet projects is just a little over the top. I guess all those years where Bono held regular meetings with our last PM where he was allowed to dictate to us how we should behave has worn off on the billionaire superstar .

Please Mr Bono I am not rolling in money like you are. In fact it is quite the opposite where 1/2 of my earnings go to taxes to this very much socialist country of mine with incredible poor services in return and then close to the other 1/2 is consumed with just trying to pay for housing and food. If you feel you need to save the world from itself maybe you should be talking to Africa and asking them why their population continues to grow exponentially when they don't have have the resources to feed themselves.

I prefer democratically elected leaders. One of them sending him packing is cause for celebration. If Bono is ever on the Democrat ticket I'm sure he'll appreciate your vote.

Well said, you might also throw in a question or two about the tax he pays after using offshore tax shelters to shield his copyright income. If people like me paid income taxes at his rate our nations would be in a real mess.

Yeah, he could give a few pointers to Paris Hilton. Bono Has done a lot of charity and has given millions of $'s. He also has given a voice to alot of people that wouldn't get heard. His does good work, ease up on him will ya?

I'm glad there are people like Bono out there. He could give every penny he's ever earned to charity and it would be a drop in the ocean compared to the good he has done by applying pressure to world leaders.

To be honest, if there were no Bonos or annoying charity workers trying to guilt me into helping I'd probably be too lazy or selfish to do so. I think the world is much the better for people like him.

That's a little harsh. I want him to continue making good music. But it would be nice to see him stop his quest to try and influence governments into adopting his vision of world socialism.

I am sick and tired of your racist and hate filled views. You contribute nothing but hate. You are but a troll. I doubt if you are even a skydiver.

Why?? Look at all of the publicity he brings to the table. After all a skydive forum is talking about him and what he does and doesn't do. He brings issues to the fore front and if anything awareness to issues that most would have a clue about..

In my case the opposite is closer to reality, but Bono is a grade A hypocrite who wants nations already dripping red ink to spend even more on pet overseas causes as many people struggle domestically and our grand kids are already in debt to the tune of trillions, all as he does his best to avoid paying his share.

The latest affront is the Bono Geldoff duo at the G8 summit where they're bitching that half the pledged 30 billion is money already pledged and there's not much evidence of new money. Are we supposed to get the checkbook out to the tune of tens of billions of dollars every time these tax avoiding ass clowns roll into town on a cause? Fuck that. In fact how about a big fat sincere unqualified fucking thank you very much and bugger off for at least 5 years before we give another nickel or listen to these wealthy beggars again.
