ECVZZ 0 #8 July 10, 2002 That was in Walker California, about 1-1/2 hours south of Reno. It was to be the (42 yr. old, as I recall) pilots last season as a firefighting pilot. According to the preliminary report, the wings separated prior to the fire, and per to the maintenance records, this same aircraft had stress cracks repaired earlier in it's history. The NTSB is looking into a similar wing separation in the same type of aircraft some years back. Pending the outcome of this investigation, all firefighting aircraft of this model have been grounded.
