How would you tell the difference between a shy person and an anti-social person ?

Only time will tell.

Being shy IS being anti-social. A shy person, however, will 'come around' or 'warm up' to you where as an anti-social person will not.

Walk up. Make a joke and smile.

A shy person will be glad you are being nice and respond in the same fashion. You will probably enjoy talking to them because they will have a lot to tell you. Shy people generally have a neat sense of humor.

An anti-social will come up with a butthead remark and you should walk away.

A shy person is more scared.
They care about interactions with others, but they're scared of "doing it wrong"
The anti-social person just doesn't care about it.
But I really liked the baseball bat one...:D

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
