brain teaser

Recommended Posts

You have an employee.
You have only one solid, uncut gold bar to pay him for 7 days work (each day he needs to be paid 1/7th the bar of gold)
He HAS to be paid each day.

But, your gold-cutting machine has a dull blade and is only good for three cuts.

How can you pay him at the end of each day, while only cutting the bar three times?

Cut the bar into two pieces on the first cut. One side is 3/7th wide and the other 4/7th.

2nd cut - stack the bars so that your 2nd pass cuts the short bar into 1/7th and 2/7th, the long bar is being cut into equal sizes of 2/7th. You now have 4 pieces. 1-1/7th and 3-2/7th.

3rd cut, stack the 3 2/7th pieces on top of each other and cut in half.

Voile 7-1/7th pieces.

Too much trouble, I'd just give him a check. :P

You can do it with two cuts if he doesn't spend the gold during the week.

cut it into three pieces -/--/----
day 1 give him -
day 2 take back - , give --
day 3 give -
day 4 take back - and -- , give ----
day 5 give -
day 6 take back - , give --
day 7 give -

Harry Potter's dragon hide gloves do NOT really exist.

Here is another ONE!!!

You have fifty (50) coins in your pocket that total $1.00. But you drop one coin while counting them. WHAT is the probability that he dropped a penney....

Well is Mr big brain out there???

I did not say he was wrong, only said he was close. that was a typo in my typing but not in the answer not being correct. 90% is not the right answer. think about it a bit and put the big brain to work and see if the right answer comes....
