Kid rock wearing the flag

Recommended Posts

how about cutting a hole in it for his head?!?

Half the people will find it "cool" and feel like he's supporting america but he is just disgracing the flag.

*edit* no its not illegal. You can do anything you want to to an american flag (freedom of speech)

Yeah your right. I slipped back to my old boy scout days for a minute. Always learned that you could wear patches and pins, but to use a actual flag as dress wear was "unpatriotic". I think that would reflect my general feeling also.

Yup, the actule Flag Code is here: http://www.usflag.org/us.code36.html

Quote

§176. Respect for flag
No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.
(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
(b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
(c) The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
(e) The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
(f) The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.
(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
(h) The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

Isn't it disgraceful to cut a hole in and wear a real flag?

Doesn't seem like it could be illegal, but I don't know. Disrespectful? Disgraceful? I guess that's in the eye of the beholder - seems like it to me, but I value the 1st amendment more than a piece of cloth.

At least Kid Rock is just an entertainer - hardly expected to know all the ins and outs of the US Code. For instance:

The US Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Sec. 8, under the heading "respect for flag," states: "The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature."

But you would think someone in government would know the basics of the code, unlike the dipshit in the attached photo. Gee, who is that??? Yup - it's the president himself. . .

It was probably a shirt custom made

So? Read the flag code, then you'll see that that is still quite disrespectful.

*shrug* I guess I take great pride in my country and my country's flag. That flag has been to hell and back and is still here due to thousands of men's blood. That is what the flag is to me.

That was one of the most disgraceful things I've seen done to our flag by a well placed citizen in public, in a very long time.

I may be young, but damnit, that pisses me off!

Is George W Bush well placed enough for you? (see photo in previous post)

Was not a custom shirt (my opinion) as you could see where it was cut for his head to go through. You could also see the grommets in the webbing. And I believe in this particular forum the discussion is open to whatever topic we like. If you don't like don't read it and end up feeling troubled by it.

I never said he was the brightest or the best, he is just better then the rest that ran last time and that are running this time.

Everyone fucks up, notice I was calling Kid Rock any names or anything along those lines. I didn't agree with his act, but I don't know him, never met him, couldn't say anything about him.
