Vallerina 2 #1 March 11, 2004 This is just a post to convince women everywhere to try out belly dancing! I take a class here: http://www.jasminjahal.com/home.html Her site has a ton of great information! I have never felt more womanly or sensual as I did last night. Maybe it was the way I learned to move my hips to the percussion, or maybe it was the way I learned to move my chest to the woodwinds, something made me feel like I was a part of the music. I felt beautiful. Every woman there was beautiful, no matter what they looked like on the outside. Every woman there (even if it was just for a short time in the safe space of the dance studio) had confidence and a love of their bodies. We all expressed how strong and womanly we all were. I was such a dork and so excited last night that I came home and popped in last season's cd and danced to Natacha Atlas's "Shubra". I love that song! I love the dance she choreographed it to as well! Anyways, back on to why every woman here needs to try belly dancing, it challenges your body in a completely new way even if you've had years of dance training. These move are unlike any I've ever learned before (and I did just about every kind of dance.) It feels great to isolate a muscle group for the first time and make your body do something new! Plus, the jingling hip scarfs are cool! Anyways, it's difficult for me to write down just how incredible it is! Being good at dance will help you in some aspects (as in, you'll be able to keep your chest lifted while keeping your butt tucked under) but it may hinder you in others (they don't do the ballet stances!) You'll be helped more than hindered. You have to do it someday!!!! The music is amazing. The moves are amazing. It is way too much fun! And, I don't think it does get better than this!!!
