Viking 0 #26 April 25, 2004 94 Ford escort wagon. I replaced my system last fall when i was working at frys. I got a Panasonic CQ-DF783U head unit. Looking back i should have payed the extra cash for the Alpine unit Went with 6 1/2 Polk DB's in the door, and 4x6 Polk MMC's in the back. I need to get an amp for the back as they are underpowered with just the head unit. It sounds SOOOOOOO much better than stock though, so i am happy. Flyer2Diver 0 #27 April 25, 2004 QuoteMy father in law just hooked up some xm radio in his tahoe. It sounded good for the few minutes i listened to it. Anyone have any bad info on it? Ie signal goes away, it's not worth it ect. I just put XM in my car ('04 BMW 330i) - I've been really impressed so far - great sound quality and reception, and no commercials on the music channels. Guest #30 April 25, 2004 Nothing personal, but I despise "Boom Cars". It's just another form of rudeness and pollution. It's kind of like extreme overclocking of a PC, where the processors are cooled with liquid nitrogen. Impressive, but ultimately useless and a waste of time and money. ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."

Yes, I hate those too, I also hate that phrase. Yes, my stereo will get loud. Yes, my stereo will pretty much flex the windows in my car. No, I don't crank it, or even have it moderately loud at stop signs, traffic lights, neighborhoods, or public areas. My stereo will however recreate every nuance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture...right down to the cannon fire. And every single specific wood or wind instrument can easily be discerned along with that. Being able to hear every detail in a piece of music, whether it be Motzart, Tori Amos, The Ramones, or Public Enemy is very important to me. I love my music and it's a necessary part of what I need to get through the day whether I'm indoors or out in my car. You wouldn't bat an eyelash if someone told you they dropped $850 for a new PD reserve, but I'll bet a non-skydiver would say something. If I were to tell you that the 6 1/2" component speakers in my door cost almost $700 you'd probably react the same as the non-skydiver. Some people 'waste' money on home theatre, some on car audio, and some would say that we waste money jumping out of airplanes. To the latter, we label them whuffo's as they aren't educated about What It Is That We Do. BoostedXT 0 #32 April 25, 2004 I once told Einstein it was all relative. he believed me too. People have different hobbies. I had a stereo in my last car that is very similar Kris'. It cost a lot of money, but there is an amazing difference in the quality of music when played. "With prosperity comes choice. Forget that and we will all be worst off." If I want fast I'll get another crotch rocket or go skydiving, especially with the price of gas today. But I do miss the older fast cars I used to own (IROC, Stang, Pacifica).Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
Romericus 0 #35 April 25, 2004 I have a factory tapedeck/radio/cd player. The funny thing is the CD player plays fine, but the eject button doesn't work....so i've been listening to Shostakovich's 8th symphony since I got it (I bought the car used and didn't ask about the CD player)
freeflir29 0 #36 April 26, 2004 I have stock speakers in my Mitsubishi but a Blaupunkt 180 watt Cd player. The stock speakers do a really nice job amazingly enough. It sounds really good and is plenty loud enough to annoy anyone within 200 yds with the windows down.
