freeflir29 0 #1 September 2, 2004 Just to add to Diverdriver's post about late season complacency with a STELLAR example of prime stupidity........here's my story. I'm leaving work today and get a message from Alanab. She says she is going out to AerOhio this afternoon for a couple jumps. I have kind of been jonesing for one. I haven't jumped since the Monday after WFFC. I look at my watch......it's only 430PM. I can easily make it home, get my junk, and make it out there by 6-630PM. Plenty of time for a jump or two. I head out.......step out of the car and into my rig. Get on the first load and have a nice 4 way FF with some of the regulars there. Nice swoop! Hurry in and pack quickly. Throw my stuff back on and luckily decided to walk to my car to grab a smoke before getting on the plane. I'm walking back by manifest and Tim (DZO) calls my name. He casually says "Do you know you have a pull up cord hanging out of your rig?" He removed it for me and tucked everything back in. Not sure if it would have opened or not.......glad I didn't have to find out. So....late season complacency is a very real threat. I walked onto that DZ today like I was still at WFFC and had been jumping for a week straight. In fact....I haven't jumped in about 2 1/2 weeks. Yes...this sport will bite you if you get stupid. I was stupid today. That being said....I had two nice free fly dives and did my first downwind landing on my new canopy. Long spot and didn't want to walk back. did a nice "conservative" 90/90 turn in and slid on the wet grass for about 80 feet. It wasn't exactly graceful because the grass was so wet but I did stay on my feet. Be careful out there........and don't forget.....no matter how many jumps you have...the next one CAN kill you! Kramer 0 #2 September 2, 2004 Nice post Clay. Glad that dude saw your pull-up cord. I'd imagine landing a Vengence is a lot more fun than landing a PD-R after a total. Sorry we won't see you at Richmond this weekend. PEACE! The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!
freeflir29 0 #3 September 2, 2004 QuoteSorry we won't see you at Richmond this weekend. Yeah....that kinda sucks but I am stuck working Sat and Sun with the most wonderful days of Mon, Tue, and Wed off. Worthless!!!!!!
Cornholio 0 #4 September 2, 2004 Ouch, that sucks. But THAT is exactly the reason why I always leave my pullup cord in the closing loop until right before I tuck my closing tab on my rig. Well, that and a few times I've pulled the pin by farting with the PC trying to fold it or get in the rig. It makes closing the rig easier if that happens. Although, I've never left one in my rig before after packing. It's kinda noticeable right before closing the closing tab that something aint right. Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! Cool! bellyflier on the dz.com hybrid record jump

A smart ass attitude like that is probably what gives people that impression. JT......I don't know if Tim drinks beer or not. I was sure struck with "Well....what the hell do you say after someone just did something like that for you?" syndrome. Other than...."Holy shit......THANKS!"
