Do you have your own office?

Recommended Posts

I have my own office, but it never feels lonely. There always seems to be someone in there to discuss a problem, review medical records, or just vent... It is nice when I can close the door and actually work on the piles of stuff in my in bin...

Nope, I work outside all year, and wouldn't have it any other way. Although, the winter does suck just a little bit. But I've been working outside since I got out of school, and I think getting stuck in an office all day every day would drive me nuts.

I miss being in the big main office talking shop all day. I miss the agonizing "what's for lunch" questions and cursing each other out in person.

You miss the people? Go visit...hang out, discuss lunch options, tell people off. No problem for me.

I have people in and out of my office all day. I've finally learned when I need to have quiet and telephone time, I hang the "Closed" sign up. LOL, the first few times I did that, people came in and told me "how cute!" and then proceeded to ask me questions and pull me this and that way. They've gotten used to it, and, since it's rarely up, it gets respected now.

I really like having my office, not because I hate people either. Because what I have been doing and what seems like a rapidly growing position, if I don't have an office, my own business just doesn't get done. I don't have a fridge or a coffee maker in there, so I'm often out and about anyway.

I like my office because everyone else is within easy reach. The secretarial/admin gals are just outside my door and the owner of the company (my "boss") is right next door to me. Having this office keeps me close enough to talk whenever I want, while still having the option of closing the door if I want some privacy for a phone call, nap, etc. :)
My other office, where I spend about half my time, is outside on jobsites, usually with decent views and a fair number of critters to watch. I kinda like that office as well. :P (except in poor weather when I spend most of my time in the confines of my truck)

Hey Will you are! I am in Illinois and work outside all of the time too, so I know how bad winter sucks. I do have an office tho. Being self employed means no one cleans it (I suppose I could, but that would waste money producing time) so my office is huge with 3 windows looking out at beautiful maple trees in BRIGHT YELLOW AND GOLD. But the office itself is a MESS. However, being self employed, I can hang out on dz.com or one of many porn sites and nobody knows it but me. (And my banker when I don't make any money) :(

I had the option for my own office, but choose not to. Instead, I choose to create an open air concept for my IT team.(All in one room, no cubicles)

The result is everyone knows what everyone is doing (work wise) and we don't have to spend time on the phone/getting up just to coordinate activities.

I have a beautiful old wooden desk in my office that once upon a time was Paul Galvin's office desk.

Paul Galvin was the founder of Motorola.

Still living in the shadows of others, huh john?
:P

Was that called for?

Thankfully, he's not toting around Chris Galvin's old office desk :P

Paul Galvin was a cool individual, it only runs for so many generations though...

Ah that's right, some of you have actually SEEN my truck. Well, yea, I do work out of it, but my computer and about 3 feet worth of bills are in my office.

I know that problem! When I'm working in the field, my truck serves as my office, my cafeteria, my rec room, and everything else. It only takes one day of pushing papers in there to make it VERY cluttered. People who see it after two or more days in the field ask me if I'm living in it. The work I do involves a fair amount of either doing nothing or just watching others work, providing me plenty of opportunities to do things like catch up on my mail, so the laptop and the bills also end up in my truck.

i have an office w/ a window. I feel pretty fortunate, there's a nice view; and i'm still in college working on my degree for my "real" big girl job. Thie only thing is...it's kind of like, if i were to EVer close the door, it would offend people. It's a small firm, so people are rather close...which is great, until i want to jump on here, pass the time w/stories of weekend jumps and people sneak up behind me.

maybe i should jsut re-arrange my desk, so that my back is not to the door...but then i couldn't stare out the window up towards the sky:)

I would do that, but there are only two other people in my office and they are both workaholics. The plus side is that I have an office again (first time in years) and this one has windows overlooking the Sears Tower.
