MWGemini 0 #51 May 18, 2005 I hate kids too, but there is a reason for that. Kids are not inherently bad, just undisciplined ones. Parents should still be allowed to beat the crap out of their children when they get out of line. It's good for them. bobsled92 0 #54 May 18, 2005 Well, I have 3 kids and I ALWAYS believed that children should be raised NOT to be a pain in the ass to others. Parents feel that the public should tolerate their kids! After a few trips to Toy-R-us, years ago, convinced me that I would NOT let my kids become unwelcome urchins. If kids are a problem I go after the parents. THEY are the responsible party for the child's actions at ALL times. I also believe that kids are in fact "carrier monkeys"._______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/

In addition, what are you doing to help her get these children on the right path? Oh I've told them they're obnoxious in every forum I can get into, public and private. They know they're obnoxious brats too, because they're teenagers. Once I taught them to keep out of my stuff, that was enough for me. They'll do OK, they're bright kids. They'll work it out eventually, just like we all do in the end. They also have a father that's still involved, so I'm not about to get in there and try to usurp that role. I'd be completely crap at it anyway. I get to do things that their dad wouldn't do for them, like take the 13 year old girl to see Motorhead, and let them ride on the Harley. I'm also teaching them how to make the perfect martini.
gjhdiver 0 #69 May 18, 2005 QuoteI love your rant, Gareth, but remember the unwritten motto of the British officer corps: "There are no bad troops, only bad officers." mh . This is true, and a careful read of my little rant would reveal that it is spoken in the first person to an imaginary parent of an awful child, not the child itself. I believe in placing the blame where it's due. Surpised that nobody picked up on that yet. As for those who think I'm projecting an awful personal childhood onto others, I had a great childhood, with loving involved parents. However, I grew up in the late 50's and early 60's in the UK, which had not at that time, developed the awful cult of the child that has come about in the last half of the 20th century. There were rules and limits, that were actually stuck to. I was never allowed to act up in public, no meant no etc etc. Of course, I thought these all great injustices at the time, but at least when I'm making an arse of myself in public now, it's a choice, not a habit that I was allowed to develop as a child. We're not diong these kids any favors by treating them as little emporers. it's going to be a big shock for them when they wind up working for someone like me

bobsled92 0 #71 May 18, 2005 The last of parent's making themselves responsible will TRUELY hurt the child. They will grow up hated by others and think it the life is. THis weekend at DZ several kids could have been killed due to lousey parenting. Honestly...I look back at my childhood and asked my parents WHY didn't they beat me for 70% of the B.S. I got away with??? Now, I'm a perpetual smartass._______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/
rehmwa 2 #72 May 18, 2005 No one blaming the pulic schools too? These guys have a sale or collection or raffle every freaking week. Every field trip, they assess a small amount for the kids (right thing to do) and then ask for additional money for those parents who don't feel like paying for the trip. They have the nerve to call it a scholarship instead of charity. Raffles and sales, talk about child labor abuse. I don't want those cookies or those candybars, how about letting the kids study instead after school? ... Sorry, should have attributed it, but I didn't want to link out to it. I thought it was a fairly well known rant, as I've seen it around a few places in different forms. I guess people add to it as they go along. It just says a lot of stuff I agree with. I have no idea where it originates from.
