Your personal relationship with music...

Recommended Posts

Okay shit already...I've revealed so much on here over the past year or so...so WTF...

My brother and I at an early age discovered music as our personal "escape" from troubles at home..mom and dad fought and threatened to divorce for years..we only had each other and our love for music...and this many years later...it's still the same...he still sends me "new" music which moves him and I do the same...and it's so awesome! We communicate our emotions through music..it's an amazing thing we share! Only recently his five kids have discovered this part of Carl and I and its so amazing that they want to be part of it too...and relate through their love of music.

Next week I have the privilege to continue my beautiful bond with my brother as we help Gulfport victims of Hurricane Katrina..our lives are more than blessed...I thank God for the blessings we've had. It's all good:)

Music also provides a very important role in my life. I constantly listen to music, all types of music, depends on my mood.

More to the point, though, is that when I really need escape, playing music doesn't cut it, I play music. It really feeds the soul and cleans out any external emotions that need cleaning. In these states I typically finish playing my trumpet or guitar a couple of hours later absolutely exhausted not from the playing, but from the emotional release. All in all music has been very very good to me.

Recently my brother made me a couple CDs of his favorite music--I had asked him for it because we just don't spend as much time together as we use to. I LOVE to listen to his music, because it keeps me in touch with him in some way, and I LOVE my little brother.

He got married in July right after I started residency. His wedding was a couple days before my scheduled divorce hearing--that got postponed. I didn't get to go because of residency and taking off work because of my own legal issues.

Went to a Razorback game (got beat by....ahem...Vandy) with him and his wife last weekend, and I hope he treasures our time together as much as I do.

Today's Abe's 36th birthday. Happy birthday Abe!!!

Peace~

Music has always meant a lot to me, too - sometimes I hear a song and I can tell you exactly what I was doing, where I was, who was with me, the time of day, etc. just as if it was yesterday (and some of these songs go way back!).

I think that's so cool that you and your brother share music the way you do. What a great thing to share with someone.

I like to feel myself while relaxing to Celitc Bliss of: The Dropkick Murphy's.
There new stuff is a bit easy going but, still very enjoyable.
I have a 1hr comute each way and need my MOOD music.
The Wife said I was getting too soft and found me listening to Dido too much & some Enya. (SHe put me on restriction and now I get into my former tunes)
Good ole' PRODIGY is a nice pick me up too.
She said if I listen to Celine Dion..I'll loose a nut. I though for sure she wanted me to abandoned my old ways but, I thought wrong.
(I got rid of my NIN when trying anger management with an effort)

Amen to the DK Murpys. You might like Union 13 and Bombshell Rocks too. Nothing like a little "oy" punk to punch thrhoug traffic.

No, no, not Celine. I have to be strapped down and sedated to put up with that . . .:P

That will definitely cost a nut.

Music was a massive part of my life as I was growing up, all I spent my money on was punk/hardcore shows and cds etc. It's not such a large part of my life now, but I often look back and am very thankful that music had such a strong influence in my life.

On a related note, I'm going to see a band next Thursday night that I havent seen in about 5 years. Can't wait!
