tsalnukt 1 #1 July 23, 2008 Does anyone know anything about adding an extra piece of webbing on top the leg webbing? A dude came in and says that his leg straps slip a few inches sometimes on opening. Someone else told him to get an extra piece of thinner webbing sewn to the leg strap to make it a little thicker and keep it from slipping. Anyone else ever heard of this?? skybeergodd 0 #2 July 23, 2008 Yes...this was a fix that was used when some container manufacturers had slippage issues with some on the hardware they used....but before you impliment that fix, I'd examine why he has the slippage issues...Improperly fitted harness...worn leg straps, ect. That fix you mentioned should only be used tocorrect true hardware slippage issues, and even at that I'm more likely to recommend hardware replacement to my customers. It's better to cure the problem rather than put a bandaid on it.
dragon2 0 #3 July 23, 2008 I had that done on my previous Atom, worked like a charm, better than the other band-aid of putting an elastic band on the buckle. After a while though I got my rigger to punch snaps (what do you call those things, like on your hookknife lanyard) on my legstraps that fixed them good and was easy to get in and out of my rig, though not for anyone else ciel bleu, Saskia
DougH 270 #4 July 23, 2008 Aerodyne did that at one point. I kept the old style since I never had issues, yet. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
riggerrob 558 #5 July 24, 2008 Aerodyne issued a Service Bulletin on this subject a couple of years ago. The SB says to sew an extra layer of Type 12 webbing to the existing leg straps. This "bulks out" the buckle, reducing slippage. I have applied this Aerodyne SB to Vectors, Javelins, Sidewinders, etc.
Andrewwhyte 1 #6 July 24, 2008 Rob did this to my Vector II about five hundred jumps ago. It works brilliantly.
