Cantoral 1 #1 February 1, 2008 Hi all Maybe it's a dumb question, but it's possible to take the lines from a canopy that it has been damaged just the fabric and put them in another canopy (same size, same brand)? I hope that my English is not so bad
 tdog 0 #2 February 1, 2008 It would take a lot of bartack removal, and with all those holes, re-bartacking might be sketch-ball.
 mark 104 #3 February 1, 2008 Quickest way with least chance for damage is to cut the line attach loops for B and D lines (and brake lines) on both canopies, then replace the line attach loops on the keeper canopy. No fingertrapping required. Assumes canopy with fabric damage is going to be thrown out anyway. Best way is to just install a new line set. But then you have a bunch of stitiching torn out on the keeper canopy with a bunch of new holes for the replacement line attachments??? Can't be too good for strength...
 mark 104 #5 February 1, 2008 Easier to remove the line-attach bartacks than the line bartacks, and you only have to remove a little more than half as many. Also, you may be able to just leave the original bartacks in place, remove as much of the tape as you can with scissors, and just bartack the new attachment over the old. Check with the manufacturer to see what they might suggest. PD doesn't like redoing the bartacks because the lingerie tape they use is more prone to damage from restitching than Type 3 tape is. Except for that, most of the damage from restitching comes from the disassembly process, not from the reassembly. Remember that it is usually easier to pick stitches out of tape than line. Then another hour or two to sew on new line attachment tapes. If installing a factory line kite requires 4 hours labor (at $50 per hour) and replacing line attachment tapes will add 2 or 3 more hours, you are talking about a $300 to $350 job. Oh! And you will have to add a few pennies for a yard (meter) or 2 of new tape.
 masterrigger1 2 #8 February 2, 2008 Mark, Just a quick note,. The seam rippers I get from WalMart are the best! I get the smallest one they have. It is great for removing bartacks. With this one, I can easily remove bartacks from the lines without damage. I average 30-60 seconds per removal with it.
