Playstation 3 pre-orders start Tues 10/10

Recommended Posts

FYI, gamestop will be taking in-store pre-orders for Sony's ps3 today, 10/10. This is from gamestop's website

Limited PlayStation 3 Pre-Order

GameStop and EB Games will begin accepting limited pre-orders for the PlayStation 3 console on Tuesday, October 10, on a first come, first served basis. Due to extremely limited supply, we expect to deplete this allocation very quickly, most likely in minutes. We will not accept additional pre-orders at this time. To avoid an unnecessary trip we strongly recommend you call your local store to determine availability. A $100 reservation deposit is required, which can be funded with cash, credit or trade. As we cannot control production and shipping issues by the manufacturer, a reservation deposit does not guarantee receipt of a system available to purchase at launch. Reservations/Purchases are limited to 1 per household.

Our limited online pre-order program will be announced at a later date, after software and accessory availability dates are confirmed. Online product pricing and availability will vary and will be fulfilled independent of store reservations.

Just another toy that all the ebay bastages will buy out of stock so that they can sell them at higher prices before xmas.
It's sad really.

Actually I think it's quite a smart thing to do. You buy 3 PS3's @ $500 a piece ($1500) then sell them for a $1000-$1200 a piece and make $1500-$2100 profit. I want a PS3 but I refuse to be part of the first release madness. I will wait till I can get a good deal on one.

Last year at this time is when we bought our Playstation 2. We paid like $15 extra at best buy to get the upgrade to 3 if it came out in a year. I wonder if preordering counts?

OH GOD! I just checked and we bought it on 10/9!

Well yeah its smart but i would like nothing better than for no - one to buy them off these "touts" who are getting money for nothing.

I agree. This isn't any different then toys like Tickle Me Elmo. Pay hundreds before x-mas and $39.99 the day after x-mas. As I said I will wait for the rush to be over. I want a PS3 badly but not that badly.

You know it's really the people that pay those prices that allow such things to happen. Then you can blame the manufacturers for not making enough, on purpose. I like your idea, just wait till after xmas. I think it has come to alot of people doing that though and then it's even just as hard to find after the holidays.
Commercialism at it's best. SC here we come.
I actually kind of want a PS3, but I don't play my PS2 right now so why waste the money I say. It'll cost half as much in a year anyway and probably be outdone again by itself.

I don' think it will cost half as much but I know it will be back to the price it's suppose to be at (I believe $500 is the normal price). The prices are driven sky high before x-mas by parents who neeed to make sure there kids have it x-mas day instead of waiting an extra month to save all that cash. Also I don't believe this will be replaced anytime soon. Look at Sony's console history. So far each playstation model has been released in 6 year periods (ps-94, ps2-00,ps3-06). Even after 6 years I still play my PS2, not a bad investment. Which leads me to say this, I have no problem paying $500 for a console. I use to be big into computer gaming which cost me a hell of a lot more (I was buying new equiptment almost every year to keep up with games). $500 over 6 years is less then $100 bucks a year, in my book that ain't bad.

The young adults who will buy the PS3 today at a premium are the ones whose parents bought them a Tickle Me Elmo doll several years ago at a very high premium. There's a whole generation being raised that hasn't learned the word "no."

If I'd asked for a toy for Christmas that was in such high demand that you had to pay prices 3 to 4 times over retail to get it my mother would have LAUGHED.:D:D

but when you surprisingly receive that present xmas day then what.
I think that is what most of it comes from. My kid just wants this (item) sooo bad this year. I don't want to let him down, he/she never asks for stuff like this. And thus the cycle begins.

I wanted a PS2 for x-mas when it first came out (I was 15). When I found out how much it was I told my parents to just wait on it, there is no way I would want them to spend $1000 for a $300 system. They did get it for me roughly 2 months later. But I do agree with you with no one being able to say no. I might be able to understand a 6 year old being dissapointed in Santa but 12-14 year old kids who makes there parent stand outside bestbuy all night in the middle of november is just rediculious.

But see that's the thing, I wouldn't get the toy. I honestly don't think it's done irreparable harm to my self-esteem, nor did it damage my relationship with my parents. My parents knew what they could afford, and what made sense. Paying four times the retail value of a toy just becuase the kid really really really wants it didn't make sense to them.

Coincidentally, now that I'm an adult, it doesn't make sense to me. :D

(Granted, I'm not a parent, so I haven't had to say "no" to a little one...)

you've been so depraved. There is no reversing that damage:D:D explains everything.:P:P:P:P
I think it's possible to get items without having to pay higher prices, legally too. I mean how do those people on ebay do it? I think parents try to surprise their kids and then when they can't find it after months of looking they just give into paying double the price.

My wife and I were really interested in the PS3, and were ready to pre-order, but there's still apparently a lot of bugs to work out. Not to mention the fact that good games really won't start rolling out until a few months after launch.

We decided to wait 6-9 months as that sould allow time for some real support and to have the bugs worked out.

In the interim, we picked up an XBox 360 and I love this thing. I plugged it into our network and my copy of Vista found it and setup the extenders almost automatically. Now I can stream my movies and music right to the XBox hooked up to our HDTV and you can pick the media items right from the XBox remote. Tres nifty.

We will be getting the Wii as soon as it's released though. I just love having a wife who's a geek as well. The xBox was actually her idea.B|

That didn't last long...

"Due to high demand and limited quantities, our U.S. in-store pre-order for the PlayStation 3 has ended."

EDIT: I called my local EB games, he said they went through their allocation in 40 minutes this morning.

I had nothing to do after work and there is a game stop about 2 miles from here. Work ends at 08:30 so I was third in line and they were "sold out" before the store even opened. They only had 8 and that many people were lined up at about 09:48. Store opens at 10

The games should look nice but I'm excited for BluRay. The system w/ 60 gigs is $650 w/ tax.
