Should I be allowed to leave work early today?

I work for a company that is a contractor for NIH, on a NIH campus.

The top brass at NIH just sent out an email saying people could leave 2 hours early today (wednesday before thanksgiving). Often my company will do what NIH does, since we're on their campus & share some of the same facilities.

But for some reason, we've been told that we don't yet have permission to leave early today.

I think this sucks. I have a lot of important drinking to do today. Do you think I should be allowed to leave early?

How did your company notify you? Via email? You know what a bitch email can be and how things can get lost or stuck in cyber space.

I need to get back to my co-workers. We're trying to devise a plan for a gas leak without actually blowing up the building. Cutting the electrical is out of the question...we'd lose all the samples in the freezer and cooler.

What is this "should I be" business? As an American it is your right to leave early the day before a holiday. Stand up proudly for your country and walk out that door screaming "I am out of here bitches, see you on Monday."

Jeez, and here I remember being pissed because we could only work half day before Memorial day. (union construction dont get paid holidays) and it was going to be RAIN all weekend. Just what I wanted 3 1/2 days to watch rain, 3 1/2 days pay. Hurry on out to the coast!
