baseknut 0 #1 March 16, 2006 I just recieved my A license, throughout my AFF training, and ground school. I only rented the gear. Is there anyone with some helpful recommendations for a container/harness, main, and reserve. I have little experience, only 35 jumps. Rented gear all jumps. I weigh 175 lbs, 6 ft. tall. Male. Thank you.Step into my (sub)terminal Playground

TrickyDicky 0 #5 March 17, 2006 Pretty much every rig is as safe as each other. Just have a look and see what you like the look of/sound of/most happy with with respect to fetures. But I would recommend getting 2nd hand gear as your first rig. It gives you a taste for whats out there, can be sold on for similar to what you paid for it and if you get bored with it you havent just shelled out a load of cash for it. Each rig has different aspects iin which they outshine others in terms of safety. For example, Racer has, far and away, the best reserve pin protection. Wings has the best BOC setup. Vector3 has the best RSL. If a skydiver is going to buy one rig brand new, it should be their first rig. This is the one where it will be hardest to find a good deal on appropriate used gear. Additionally, it will hold its resale value far better than smaller sized gear more suitable for more experienced jumpers. Used 170s are like gold. Used 107s are a dime a dozen; smaller canopies don't hold their resale value well. Also, you cannot get a harness container custom fitted to you by purchasing used, unless you have it refitted, which will diminish any savings.
