virgin-burner 1 #1 November 25, 2008 i just got a 901.. admittedly, they look a little gay, but they're tiny, light, perform unexpectedly well and the battery just kicks ass! i was playing with it for at least 4 hours yesterday, downloading, upgrading and installing programs, i still got like 3 hours left on it.. mind you, its not really designed to be a fulltime-computer, but you could get through it with most things.. it fucking ROCKS!!!“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. psw097 0 #12 November 25, 2008 We got a Asus EeePC 901 over the summer - great little 'puter. The small size, 20 second boot time, SSD and 7 hour battery are what make it perfect for simple tasks and travel. I'm not a huge fan of the Xandros system - its fast and simple but I dislike some of the interface. I've been thinking about going to Ubuntu with the Netbook remix X but have been waiting for the 8.10 version of Ubuntu-eee.
skittles_of_SDC 0 #13 November 25, 2008 Can you get back to us at the end of the week and let us know how the experience has been? I was looking at those a couple months ago. It would be nice to use to store pictures while traveling. Also since I have a Mac they don't have Jump Track software for my computer so that's another reason I was looking at them. virgin-burner 1 #14 November 25, 2008 sure will, if you want to store lots of (high-res)pics, the amount of storage is pretty limited. but since there's a memory-card slot, you can upgrade your memory for pretty cheap. the more expensive solution would be to get a bigger SSD, those are available up to 128gb if i'm not mistaken. otherwise there's a model with a traditional hard-disk that stores 160gb. and its only about 100$ or so more expensive..“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. skittles_of_SDC 0 #15 November 25, 2008 I should have elaborated more when I said store pictures. I meant store them on the hard drive or SSM temporarily (not forever) and have an external USB backup. Western Digital makes a nice little portable external HD that is only like $200 for 500GB. Then once I get home transfer them to my computer with editing software and my backup at home(I'm pretty anal about storing and backing up my photos). virgin-burner 1 #16 November 25, 2008 mhm, one thing i can say already, after a dark schneider and a smirnoff it becomes kinda difficult to type on. and there's no right shift-key. for the ten-finger-geeks out there, it really fucking SUX!!!“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. virgin-burner 1 #17 December 1, 2008 for a little update: i upgraded my RAM to 2gb's saturday, got me a 16gb SHCD memory card and ordered an SSD with 32gb's.. its a darn cool little 'puter. the only down-turn is the really small keyboard, but with a little getting used to, it works quite well. upgrading to a bigger RAM is imperative in my eyes, as the primary SSD on which the OS runs is pretty full with XP SP3 on it, so no space for virtual memory. upgrading to a bigger 2nd SSD is pretty much optional as you can get a relatively cheap memory-card that would also work in your camera for example, and thus even less trouble for transferring data/pics from one place to another.. i wonder how the bigger SSD i've ordered will perform, as its supposed to read/write 4 - 6x faster than the original built in SSD..“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. psw097 0 #18 December 1, 2008 You don't need any of that with the Linux version of the 901 - boots in 20 seconds and standard programs load/run as fast as my dual core Dell D830.

virgin-burner 1 #25 December 16, 2008 yesterday i've received the 32gb SSD i've ordered for it, and after a night out of (heavily) drinking glühwein, i managed to get it installed, cloned the previously installed drive and am ready to go again! i'm a fucking hero! never done anything like that on a computer.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S.
