DigitalDave 0 #4 October 28, 2009 You'd probably find it easier to learn how to code by hand than it is to learn how to use website building software. Granted, I'm a programmer, but I've never understood the need to use an editor when the underlying markup code is so simple.

Mr17Hz 1 #8 November 12, 2009 Other DotNetNuke websites include: http://www.SkydiveChicago.com http://www.SkydiveHawaii.com http://www.SkydiveRadio.com I have some training videos up on http://www.realdropzone.com (also running DNN) that show how to use a number of DotNetNuke features, click on the "Content Management" Category. Check out www.snowcovered.com for a bunch of third party modules for DNN, they do cost money but are extremely reasonable. I've build and developed modules for another dozen websites that are not in the skydiving industry using DNN to include some very high volume news/publishing sites. You can check out www.alldnnskins.com for a number of skins that can start you off with a templated look and feel. I started a site a number of years ago to contain some DNN knowledge at www.makenukehappen.com however it never really took off (lack of invested time); there are however a few articles on there that you might find interesting.Matt Christenson [email protected] http://www.RealDropzone.com - A new breed of dropzone manifest software. riddler 0 #10 November 13, 2009 I think there's some confusion here between Web Development Applications and Content Management Systems. The difference is both subtle and significant. I'm guessing from your original post, you'll want a Web Development Application - I recommend Dream Weaver. Do I use it? No, I code by hand. But it works well for a lot of people that don't want to get down and dirty building HTML. If you just want to put information on a website, and you're the only person to post info, use a Web Development Application (there are some great free ones, like Coffee Cup). Content Management Systems (CMS), like DotNetNuke, are more typically used for a larger website that has a lot of changing information and multiple admins. I'm currently building a large CMS for the State that will have hundreds of admins (using Umbraco). These typically require a lot of knowledge of coding (.net, java, Python, PHP, Coldfusion, etc) I'm guessing you don't need something like that.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. Visual Web Developer Express is free from MS, it's a 'lite' version of Visual Studio for web-specific stuff. If database connectivity is something you need, it works well with the express editions of SQL Server (it's a pain with DB2 and Oracle though). If you're looking at anything other than Asp.NET/IIS, I'd go with Dreamweaver though.
Hausse 0 #12 November 13, 2009 Just build the site in Wordpress. It can do fantastic stuff and is way easier to use then any editor. Then get a custom theme and your site won't look like shit which is what's going to happen if you build it yourself.
