We've had repeated request from users who want to feature their gear more prominently in the classifieds, but do not want to join the Premier Membership program. We've listened and now, for a small weekly fee (paid via PayPal) your gear items can be prominently featured on the Classifieds home page and at the top of the listings on each individual category page. freefalljason 0 #3 January 23, 2013 Hey HH, As a long time Premier Member (continuously since the program began in 2004 Not only are the "new" ads listed above Premier Member ads but they also have longer descriptions as well as price listed. I understand that you have to try new means to generate income for the site but there should be some consideration for those of us who have been faithful to the site for years (while contributing a LOT of money). In it's current configuration, this "new" feature severely reduces the value of the Premier Membership which could cause some of us to consider if it's still worth the price . Meso 38 #4 January 23, 2013 Hey Jason, It's completely understandable that you would feel this way, and we appreciate all the support you've given over the years through being a premium member. The Premium Membership and Featured Ads listings are quite different in certain aspects though, and I'll try and explain as best I can, the intention for both services. Our premium membership program, which has been running for a number of years now, was created to offer supporting members something 'extra' in the way they can use the site. The classifieds are only a part of that added functionality, which extends to the e-mail, the private messaging system, the forum and more. Our addition of the featured ads should not detract from the value of the premium membership program, especially when used to its fullest. http://www.dropzone.com/help/Premier_Membership/What_s_included_in_Premier_Membership_462.html Even within the classifieds themselves, there are privileges that only premium members get to enjoy, such as keyword notifications, multiple image uploads, view counters and adding URLs to ads. These are things that aren't included in a Featured Ad listing. Also remember that premium members have all of their ads placed in an area of higher priority, while featured ads are single paid ads which are featured. There is also nothing preventing a premium member from purchasing a featured ad listing, should they desire. We were aware of the fact that some users ended up purchasing premium membership accounts solely to get their ads placed more prominently, while not using any of the other functionality associated with the premium memberships. The logical step was to create a platform where these classifieds users, who had no intention of doing anything other than trying to promote their ads, were able to do so quickly and easily and without the need for longer term subscription commitments. We feel very positively about the current setup, and definitely feel as though it will for the most part assist all classifieds users, whether premium members or not, while offering that priority listing option. It's important to remember that we haven't in any way tried to minimize the benefits of the premium members, but rather just added a new option for both them and regular users, looking to get a priority listing on their ad. We hope that this can provide some reassurance that the premium memberships are still worth their money in the value provided and that the featured listings will be a positive move for all buyers and sellers.
