RayLosli 11 #1 August 3, 2004 Well being that D.J and I are always looking for fresh recruits to extend our odds of survival a tad Bit Longer... A couple of months ago I took out a New BASE jumper (ManBird)... Steve. for a level 3 recurrence training, Tower jump. Well he finally got a BASE rig and made the mistake of asking D.J. and Me to take him to the famous state of Idaho and help him make a couple.... SAFE JUMPS. He also asked a couple of times where were all the other experienced Portland Base jumper he heard about. ???? So as not to scare him off to early D.J. and I, told him that they were off in Europe on a extended BASE trip. Instead of telling him there all Dead. The first thing D.J. showed him to do was to pack a 265 fox in the back seat of the car. Doing 90 mph. with the windows down, between Boise and Twin Falls. (opened on heading) Over Saturday and half day Sunday, Steve Learned to pack. Did his first Stowed jump. Jumped Slider up & Down. Did his first, Tard Also a nice Water jump with a Round. He also learned that you don't fly and flair a 245 Fox the same as his tiny, Katana.... (nice tree landing) His last jump on Sunday noon. I think I may have over-loaded and pushed him a bit to far...... For the final jump I made him do his first, Full Floating exit at the same time PCA me in freefall. Both of us, Slider Up. In his first, 5-way. with, D.J, Spence, Sauce, and Me. He put me in the water. Sucked D.J. Low, in the water with camera equipment. but still managed to keep his canopy half dry on the shore. He passed the Test......... Welcome, Steve as our new member of the Portland Crew. Nice Job.....

Treejumps 0 #5 August 3, 2004 (standing while clapping) Very nice work Ray & DJ. We don't need no stinkin FJC. Way to show them all how base is reallly learned. Yo' my heros! Tree
 skyjules 0 #6 August 3, 2004 That was his first jump course. That sounds pretty exciting. I better hurry up with getting my +100 jumps. Congratulations Steve, it was a pleasure meeting you! It was equally fun watching the Portland crew break you in with style. There are many things to comment on regarding the weekend: - congrats to Ray for surviving Jump #700! - the sound DJ made when landing in the water with his camera was hilarious - thanks Tom and Cheri for the best BBQ I've ever had (Idaho has the best corn) - after seeing my downwind ankle-twisting landing, Sauce decided he could one-up me with an even nastier ankle-wrencher - and the best achievement of the weekend: the refinement of the "Higley-Wigley" move by the infamous DJ Higgins (maybe someone can post some pics?) Thanks for a great weekend guys... Bryan edit: spelling on my wife's name ~TA
 ManBird 0 #8 August 3, 2004 I had a damn good time. I'm about to post some video. I went over to diveout's last night and we played back the sound of DJ hooking it in over and over again. This actually wasn't my FJC. I managed to survive a couple dozen BASE jumps a few years ago with essentially no training and only some minor bruising. This past weekend's tour de BASE was great. Video soon."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
 ManBird 0 #9 August 3, 2004 Videos of the weekend. I'll have these on skydivingmovies.com, but they're on my server for now. There was quite a bit of really cool stuff that we didn't get on video, but there are some of my firsts, a backseat pack job, a couple Higgly Wiggly's, and Ray's 700th. Web quality High quality Video was shot by DJ, Sauce, Ray, BPS, and myself. Enjoy. We were both slider up and I took about a 1s delay. He didn't have much canopy time before getting wet.
