Hello all Yesterday I again jumped at my home DZ in Southern Bavaria. A very nice place and club far away from modern tandem factory processes (even though they happen). Small club, very high knowledge/skill level within the membership community, own airfield and hangars, own jump ship! Club members jump everything from 89sqft suicide sqaures to static line military rounds. On Friday we had a very special event though. A very good friend of mine came out to fulfil a dream he has had for a long time, a paracommander jump. The whole project started to materialize after he found a pefect condition yellow-black Pioneer jump suit ob a flee market. Being an Army paratropper and master rigger with a strong intrest in history he figured this could become a "Gloden Knight" outfit. A couple of weeks later a search post on e-bay Germany led to a chute, PC Mk.1, which when it arrived turned out to be in super nice condition. An in debth inspection showed the kit was fully air worthy, getting it certified hence was no problem. So Friday was the big day! Two successful jumps were made, one hop'n pop from 4500ft and a "real" one from 7500ft. My buddy is in heaven...and I am jelous. I had two great SF-10A jumps that day, ok...but that was nothing against the PC jumps. More jumps will for sure follow, the plan for a second rig, a Papplion, is being drawn as I type those lines. Now for myself I would need a "28ft Jumbo" canopy since I am too heavy for a normal 24ft one. I am searching now...so if anybody wants to part from one please let me know. I am also looking for suche a heavy duty jump suit, preferably in red (Burt Lancaster style!) Are those still being made? US size 48 would be cool. Hello @377...I hear you...about th ebones and getting older! I am almost 53 and can also feel it! BUT if you want to stick to real parachutes, rounds that is, then at least right now there are very good and cheap alternatives to worn out C4s and T7s...etc... I jump SF-10As on a regular bases and I simply love those canopies. I am old, 240pounds out of the shower, and I can, if the wind is just right, do stand up landings with them. Second that. The stuff they were able to do with the available technology is truly impressive. There is a making of clip on You Tube somewhere that is also worthwhile. The story is not really thrilling but the sky dive scenes are second to non...if you, like me, love round parachutes! Filming and jumping was done by the legendary Carl Boenish and his friends. Hello all While surfing the web I found something interesting for all those who like rounds...especially the PC style. It looks like the British at one time had a "Jumbo +" in use...this is what the description reads: ..."The freefall parachute in 1985 was the GQ TAP already mentioned. It was a 32 foot round canopy of the paracommander design. It had about 9-11 knots drive; it was a sleeved circular canopy, with one extractor drogue parachute. It had a 3 point harness with a standard D-ring ripcord handle attached to a Bowden cable, routed through an anaconda housing to a 3 pin closure back pack. The canopy was attached to the harness’ main suspension by Capewell ‘shot and a half’ cutaway devices. The reserve was front mounted and side pull."... Searching further I also found the attached add from 1968...Does anybody out there have additional infos about this chute, please? [IMG]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y187/anj4de/4053158227_d40abcb170_o.jpg[/IMG] About the prices that PCs and other old gear fetch recently, I guess it's the same as with old cars or bikes...no one pays a lot for a 15-10year old car, when they turn 25 intrest slowly picks up, with 30 the first reproduction parts start showing up and with 40 it's concidered a classic...with a very high demand. Last night there was an very nice crossbow container set ending on E-bay...it went for 285$! Hi... If freefall is not required, just a beautiful ride under a quite round...I would suggest to get an SF-10A! The civilians may know it as FS-14. It's a state of the art round that is being used by the SOC and by the Forrest Service...and the canopies are available with very few jumps on them as surplus. There are some on E-bay right now that are new (0 jumps) and only cost 350$. I have 3 sets myself by now and I am not looking back to T-10s or MC1-1cs. Hello all I have a brand new (NOS from 1999) GQ360 harness that I am thinking of completing, maybe. But somehow I can not find any information about this system apart from text where its usage in the Pathfinders in England in the 90ies is mentioned. Does anybody have more infos on this system, please? Hello Stratostar Thanks for this...I was also looking at the stars and stripes PC...I know some of the gear is well overpriced but good Paracommanders are not being offered a lot. My dream would be a 28ft Mk1 "Jumbo" but those are rarer then hen's teeth. I was outbid on a nice black one about a year ago and I really did bid a lot! Hello all Does anybody know if a used 300sqft F-111 canopy (Falcon) fits into a Dolphin D6 container? The D6 is specified up to 280sqft...but this would include a new ZP canopy with all the air packed into it...am I right? Pioneer were still picturing and listing the MC-4 (Military Para-Commander) on their website in 2009, so they were available for a lot longer than we might imagine. Though you probably had to be a government to buy any. In 1975 the attached from the PI catalogue shows a Jumbo as $95 more, at $650, than the price for a Mk1. Nowadays a Mk1 doesn't fetch much, but that Jumbo certainly did and quite rightly as its a rarity and that one was in great condition. Hi That brochure quotes the material as 1.5oz zero porosity nylon...is that the same ZP we now a days know on ram airs? I just wonder...a real ZP Commander would obviously last a lot longer that one made from, lets say T-10 nylon and could carry more weight...and I might get away with a Mk1 and a good PLF...I am good at PLFs, btw... I just got back from the riggers shop at the AB school, dropped off a T-10R MIRPS for its 180day check...and when that tiny chute was on the table...24ft as well...I got serious doubts that anybody could survive a jump with it. Well, I think the buyer is lucky as well...to be honest, my pain limit for the chute was not that far below of what it sold for. I want to have/jump a PC and with my weight (220 out of the shower) a jumbo is the only safe choice. This and the condition and DOM of the chute for me made it quite valuable. It's a pity PCs are not made any more. I am sure that Paracommanders in ZP would sell... In general, I believe we will see a renaissance of round chutes in the next couple of years...and seriously, why not? It's a bit like having a classic car and use it on summer Sunday evenings.
