  1. looking for information about VINTAGE gear or where to buy it? both?
  2. From one info junkie to another: welcome aboard
  3. pretty cool.. awesome view I saw 3 canopies, comment at flicker says 4 (?) I'll have to make that next year :) how does all that work? do they have a clearly marked, designated landing area or just say (~) land somewhere along this road and we'll pick you up (?)
  4. Correct, it was 1992. I was on the very first load. Mix up in signals from the cockpit had us departing too early. 205 mph @ 15,000' and a couple miles from the airport. A litteral blast! People lost all kinds of gear on that pass. Still had an awesome time. I jumped it again on the second (maybe third) load the next morning.
  5. need more data Id like to know more about what happened.. how did the events unfold? I cant tell you one thing or another about it, but I have a curious mind, especially since I'm looking at both the Cypres and Argus for my new rig, and I want to understand whats going on (~).
  6. seriously, I get crap spanning all time and never in any logical order.. the "%" results is misleading.. something further down the list with my exact criteria nets less than %100, getting
  7. great, just when I'm weighing my options for a new AAD
  8. omg... I just saw this video, reminded me of this thread. I just had to come share.. couple points... spot the aircraft and just don't go because someone said go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHtPDjGE8RU&feature=related
  9. I bought my first rig new through the DZ loft. went with in-stock gear and saved a little bit of time and money. had no regrets. I think I'd be fine with used if I had it all inspected by a rigger. I just ordered another new rig, custom everything, but I knew exactly what I wanted.
  10. I know what they are, but I have never seen one used. in the military, we used to use an anemometer and send up special balloons, time the asscent and making note of which way it went to set up a DZ. The DZ was set up with markers for the JM to spot the drop with some accuracy.
  11. any questions on the first pass, first time for the 727 which happened at the 1992 WFFC, ask away. I was on that load, 205mph exit. keep reminding me and I'll post my video..I finally had it put onto dvd last year.
  12. at least in the US, jumping through clouds and even close to them is a violation of Federal Regulations. any rumor of my having done it once or twice before is damn lie! youtube has video of said violations.
  13. you need to compensate for the speed of the aircraft, course over ground and winds aloft (at altitude) and for the canopy ride. maybe you've heard of Kentucky Windage? you need to shoot for an exit point, which, when all the factors combined, will have you end up at the DZ for landing.
  14. I don't see too much emphasis on spotting anymore. It used to be an art and you were a marked man if you spotted the load long or short. Now I see(hear) things like "look straight down, if you see hangars, go". I don't see winds aloft reports anymore either, only stuff like "the winds are pretty stiff at altitude, give an 8 second delay between groups".
