  1. Here at RAPA we get paid the following. Tandem Instructor - nothing Cameraman - nothing If a non staff member does eithere they get 1 free jump ticket (E18). I do both, using my own parachute, camera kit and editing suite for Tandem DVD's. My Tandem Rating was paid for by the centre though. 2. It wasnt a rear riser stall, he came in to low, caught his knees in the ditch which spun him through the risers. I will post the video of his chow as it is pretty spectacular. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  3. Here are two shots from a couple of weeks ago at the RAPA Champs. Smudge walked away from his chow, very wet but unscathed. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  4. I use Sony Vegas to convert NTSC to PAL. Quite simply 1. Capture your clips from your NTSC cam, 2. Open a new project, and drag the NTSC clips to the time line. 3. Render the project as DV PAL. 4. Export to your PAL Cam You can also go PAL - NTSC if you wanted. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  5. Come visit us at RAPA in Bad lippspringe. We are located north east of Dortmund, it is a fair trek from where you are but being NATO forces you will be eligable for military rates. We have 2 turbine Islanders (10 place A/C) bunkhouse, bar, showers etc. We operate 7 days a week and fly to 1300ft. If you want any more info drop me an email. 6. Here is my 50c worth on european jumpsuits. Symbiosis - Whilst I have a Symbi SloPo which does give me excellent range I do have issues with the build quality. The zips they use are absolute rubbish, my booties regularly come undone in free fall, that is to say the zips split, not unzip. I will be getting some better quality zips fitted in the next couple of weeks. Partasport Italia - Whilst I have not jumped one of these myself I have seen a number of them around the DZ. At the moment we have the RAPA champs on and the guys from Nethers are wearing them here, check out Smudge Smiths or Cookies when they get back. These suits look bullet proof and have some very good features. If you dont know Smudge or Cookie then just ask any of the Nethers staff to point them out and tell them Buzz said hi. Rainbow - I have owned a camera suit and currently have a Raptor FS suit and FF pants made buy this German manufacturer. There kit is the BMW/Merc/Porche of jumpsuits, made to excellent standards and I can heartily recomend both FS and FF kit. Parasport and Rainbow are both more expensive than Symbi but you get what you pay for. Speak to the Freds about Symbi and you will probably hear the phrase "buy cheap, buy twice" As I said this is just my 50c. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  7. I wonder if when members of the Blue Angels/Thunderbirds/Red Arrows think the same when they see pictures of formation skydives or CF or FF. Whilst the shots are very impressive there relative speed is not that great. I see a correllation here between what we do and what they do. Other than the different skill set for flying a fast jet is there any difference between this and say a cameraman flying close to a tandem or a large group of free flyers in formation? Edited to add Landing an aircraft on a carrier in rough seas, now that is impressive. BTW everyone knows the Red Arrows are the finest aerobatic pilots out there Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  8. Unfortunately not. You will need to take out BPA membership to jump at any UK DZ. You may be able to take out a temp membership which gives you 1 month of cover. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  9. Hi Whewre abouts in Hoxter was the event held?? I know it wasnt on the DZ, for those that dont know Hoxter is at about 500ft AMSL. Hopefully we may be able to host a round of the German?European swoop meet at RAPA. I am looking forward to the Hoxter Mini Meet in July, 4 rounds of 4way held over 24 hours with 2 kick ass parties. Or should that read 2 kick ass parties with 4 rounds of 4 way in between Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  10. Sorry guys my bad. The ditch is indeed at RAPA in Bad Lippspringe Germany. www.jspc.de 2 Turbine Islanders No Alti restriction Bunkhouse/showers Canteen Cheep Beer BIG ditch
  11. Well the pond at my DZ is finally finished. It measures 85m x 10mx 1.4m Attached are some pics of me swooping it for the first time. My technique isnt too hot on this one but I managed to cover about 55m making it out of the end and staying dry. Any european swoopers out there wanna coma and have a go??? 12. Tom I was loading the Kat at 260lb out the door give or take a pound or two. I managed to make 7 jumps on it over the week, the first 2 were hop n pops from 5k the rest were all FS jumps pulling at 4k approx. From the first jump I fell in love with this canopy, the openings were sweet even when jumping my FS suit which tends to give me an interesting ride on my Still (due to the lard boy lined booties). Toggle input was sharper than the St 150 but no where near as twitchy as a St 135 that I have jumped previously. Riser pressure was very light and she dove nicely in the turn and lost a lot of height, as much as 600ft for a 180 and around 800 in a 270. I must admit that i was experimenting with different turn rates so dont take these figures as gospel. On all landings bar the last I carried out a straight in approach from full flight and found she gave me a nice surf even into 12 - 17 knts of wind, more than I would get from a 180 on my St 150 in the same conditions. The control range is very long and you get a really good flare all the way through. The last landing I did was on double fronts and found that I could hold them a little longer than i could on the St. Unfortunately poor weather prevented me from completing any more jumps and trying out some high performance landings. The good news is that my mate smudge is back over here next month and he is bringing it back out for me to jump woo hoo. As soon as I manage to sell one of my three kids/kidney's/wife on the street and can afford to I will buy one. That is unless I jump a Velo 120 before hand If you get the chance demo the 120, you may find that more to your liking. I was a little nervous about dropping from a St 150 to a Kat 120 but found it to be much better than I expected, that much so I am now gagging to try a Velo 120/111. As long as you have had quality canopy coaching (I have done both Perris Performance and Wing Tips) and take things very carefully you will enjoy the Katana. 13. You answered "yes" to 36 of 100 questions, making you 64.0% autosexually pure (36.0% autosexually corrupt); that is, you are 64.0% pure in the autosex domain (you have 36.0% masturbation addict in you). According to the scoring guide, your autosex experience level is: average masturbator Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

  16. Well I finally managed to get a couple of jumps on a Katana 120 loaded at about 2.1. To say I was nervous on the first lift would be an understatement. It was pretty cool to be in my stretch zone again, especially as there were a number of my students on the same lift who I have seen in there stretch zone. Both jumps were H+P from 5k with alti drills to get used to the canopy. I was delighted in the light riser pressure and surprised that although the thing dives like V1 I didnt find it much twitchier than my Stiletto 150. The ground wind was between 10 and 17 knts and I made straight in approaches from around 500 ft. I liked the toggle range and the powerfull flare, which gave me a reasonable surf. I have the rig for the next week or so and plan to make as many jumps as I can, maybe even trying my buddies Velo 111 before he takes them both back to the uk :-(. 17. Thats the funny thing. I am normally in front of tandems doing the camera thing, so one thing I was very aware of was the position of the sun. Buz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  18. Well I finished my tandem course on saturday afternoon, and took my first student sunday morning. Awesome experience, I think I will like throwing drogues, for a little while at least. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

  20. I did 3 tours of Norway "Ex Hardfall North" from 85 to 87. Only ever went there between Jan and Mar but what an amazing place. I hope to jump there some day, and see it in the summer. Voss is great, been there a couple of times. The Norwieians are probably the most welcoming people I have ever met, and I would recomend as trip there whole heartedly. Did you get to tey Glug whilst you were there??? Unfortunatly the only Norwegian I learned was Jai elske dai, and will du eslke mid mei. Im not sure if thats the correct spelling. Norge was only superceded as my favourite place in the world when I went to San Diego in 04. Buzz It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

  22. I have tried many of the products out there Premiere Premiere Pro Ulead Media Studio Avid Vegas IMovie My choice is Vegas, this is an oustanding piece of software that works very well on even low spec PC's. Prem Pro I found to be hard work to get to grips with. Ulead lacked finnese, Avid was a pure PITA. If I was moving around DZ's hawking my wares I would go for a G4 Powerbook and IMovie, this peice of software should be called ITandem it does rock. That said I am in a static location and I can go with a desktop. I have an AMD 2800XP set up with 1Gb Ram running Win XP, Vegas6 and DVDA3 that kicks G4 powerbook butt. As for Premiere being the industry standard, now Sony own Vegas, that may not be for much longer. That said, you can download demo's of all these programs (a free version of Avid) so try before you buy. I would suggest trying slowmo forward and reverse in all these progs as well as PinP and checking out how well they do real time previews.
