  1. You're not trying to learn. You already know some of the things that can go wrong when strapping on a camera too soon. Here are your own words from an earlier post - It's like I said, you see clearly what the problems are, you just refuse to accept them as problems, or that they might happen to you. Try looking at it from this perspective - the powers that be in the US, and the majority of other countries have all established a min. jump number for camera flying. Highly experienced jumpers from all over the world have taken their time to post that they think it's a bad idea, even when talking to a jumper on the other side of the world who's actions would have no effect on them personally. The moderator of the Video and Photo forum on this website has taken the time to permanently post a listing of actual incidents that occured when jumpers started jumping cameras too early. Now ask yourself why would all of those people take the time to comment on the situaiton, and direct new jumpers away from cameras unless it was a valid problem? Just the level of attention it gets from jumpers who are 1000's of jumps beyond the magic 200 number should be a big indicator of the scope and seriousness of problem. ok so i know them. And I never said they wont happen. In fact I never said I wont wait to the minimum required to start camera work... What im saing is that they will happen whether you have 195 jumps or 201 or 210 or 250. So when are you really ready (My first original question...)
  2. This is the reason that you are not ready to jump a camera. Your failure to recognize the dangers will lead to your failure to account for the dangers. I find it interesting how new jumpers have no problem learning literally everything they know from experienced, rated instructors, but once they have a handful of jumps, they are unwilling to accept the continued guidance of experienced, rated instructors. You have been advised of the pitfalls of adding a camera to your skydives at this early stage. You don't have a failure to see the problems, you just have a failure to accept that these problems do indeed exist, and that you might be subject to suffering from them. I'll echo something Wendy said, and add to it as well. Once you reach 300 jumps, you'll look back to this time, and even your 200th jump, and be surprised at how much more there was to know compared to what you thought you knew. I personally find that after every season I come out the other end a much, much better skydiver than when the season began. I'm talking about the learning and development between jumps 4800 and 5100. I am consistantly impressed with how much I can learn over the course of 6% of my total expereince. Try to extrapolate that out to what you might discover as you triple your jump numbers from 70 to 200. In addition to tripling your jumps, you're also still on the early, steep part of the learning curve. The reason that you can't seem to grasp the idea of 200 jumps for jumping a camera is the reason that the idea of 200 jumps for jumping a camera exists. You don't know what you don't know, and much like the trust you put in your instructors as a student learning to make a basic parachute descent, you need to trust us that this is the best way when you are contemplating making something far more than just a basic parachute descent. I never said I wanted to start now. And im trying to learn. Dont just say , your not ready. Then im not learning.
  3. Will chat to you when im ready about cameras Please note that at no time did I say I want to start jumping with a camera now. I am waiting to meet the minimum requirements at my dz which I will be discussing with my CI. I am just debating the subject. And learning. SO thanks for all the constructive comments i appreciate it. As for forgetting alti's etc , that is why me and my jump buddy always check each other out before every jump. On the way up we make sure altis are working . Both also have audibles. We keep each other safe. Strange to think that there are safe newbs but it happens. We are very safety aware. I dont like getting hurt... and I have much to live for.
  4. So the bottom line is distraction. When I start flying camera(just for debrief purposes) I will plan a 2 way jump. Plan the whole dive. 90's 360's etc. alti checks. That should take the attention of the camera ? As always have a fully planned jump and break off altitude with my regular jump buddy. What do you more experienced jumpers think about that?
  5. Jump nr's are not always directly linked to time spend on a dz..
  6. Ok seriously how serious is this answer.. you are ready or you are not... that brings us back to the question that does jump nr's actually have something do to with it. You are not ready by 195 but you will be by 210 or 215 or 220. Lets say all of those are uneventfull solo jumps. But now because of 220 you are seen as more ready. How about at 100 jumps , but the last 30 or 40 have been recent and in 2 , 3 and 4 ways ? Who is more ready ? Just be glad you're not trying to downsize. Then you'd really have 'em after you. lol . You know what , im happy with my 170 and I know it would be a danger to downsize now. But I fail to see how the camera will be dangerous. I am told I will totally forget my ep's... I will totally forget to look at my alti...I will totally ignore my audible... I will forget to pull....and my cypress will most likely save me with me hangin on the reserve like an idiot thinking :"Man what an awesome video" .

  8. You could put clips or a zip on the dbag and use it as a gear bag ? or hand bag...
  9. At jump 199, you will not be ready. At jump 200 you will be ready, provided that you do your jump before 3 PM that day and not a minute after. lol
  10. Sorry , I mean minimum recommended not per your countries legal minimum.
  11. So by the same logic someone with say 10 or so jumps short may be ready to safely attach a Go Pro or Contour camera and be absolutely fine , keeping all risks in mind , complying with all safety requirements and not being idiotic?
  12. That is most of the unready over confident people then... A safer person will go to the CI and ask questions and be certain. Is that your answer for downsizing too ?
  13. So the real question : When will one be ready ?
  14. With all due respect, you don't yet have the experience to cherry-pick something out of a video you saw, and pass it along to a fellow novice online, whose skills and experience you know nothing about. What works for you, as a still-novice, is irrelevant to what should be taught to another novice. Novices tend to advise based on what works for them; but being novices, "what works for them" is pretty much all they know. Instructors tend to advise based on what they analyze should work for the particular student they're teaching, based on a large fund of accumulated knowledge and experience jumping, observing and learning from other jumpers, and teaching previous students. A world of difference. ok well sorry then. Just saying that it worked for me. Didnt say he must go and do it. Ill sit in the corner and shut up now.
  15. Advice I got from a canopy control video that worked for me. As you come in for finals , the ground is moving below you , at a certain point it will look like the ground is coming up at you , that is when you flare, now depending on the wind and canopy , the amount and speed of flare will vary. But going for full flare at normal flare speed should have you standing up the landing. I have not botched one landing. Had some very fast ones that i could run out with no wind situations.
  16. Or, more than that. I made my pre-second jump in shorts and a t-shirt on labor day. I overshot my landing target big time and landed in a thorn bush for the pre-second time. I didn't learn my lesson, though. I made two more jumps that day in shorts and a t-shirt. thorns go through long pants too....
  17. Factory Diver or Oxygn if you want a flip up visor. I have a Factory diver and its awesome and well priced. Had a Oxygn too.
