  1. The air-skills portion? Do you mean the evaluation jumps? Almost nothing, however my coach examiner did a lot more than take me on a couple eval jumps. We learned about teaching methods. How different people learn differently i.e. visual, audibly, hands on, etc. We spent a large portion of the course teaching. I think that applies somewhat. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  2. Tom, While I can certainly understand your reasoning for the support of having secret ballots, I do not agree with them in principle. It comes with the territory of being elected in my eyes. I guess I just love Ron Paul too much, and maybe I am delusional, but I believe ALL of our representatives should not be afraid to vote for ANY issue, and be confident enough to put their name to it. All votes should be recorded by name. It isn't about what some representatives are afraid of or feeling pressure from. It is about our rights we deserve from our elected officials and our association. We deserve to know period. We put them in office and have every right to know where they stand. We should not have to call or email them to find out how they voted either. It should be public knowledge (at least to association members). It is not an expensive or overly cumbersome thing to accomplish either. It is common sense. I was against the Wingsuit proposal. It failed, but the Wingsuit proposal is not what this is about. It highlighted to me the way the USPA works as I never paid such close attention previously. I created this poll and contacted the USPA with my thoughts because I don't believe the current way business is conducted should be lawful within our organization. I want to be able to review the voting records next election and make a more informed decision than I am currently able to. The majority of members can't afford to travel to the meetings and see for themselves, and for me to contact every board member through various media is a bit ridiculous. It can be done better. I am sure there would be a lot of resistance to the change, but I am simply going on the record of where I stand, and it would seem the overwhelming majority of your constituents stand with me. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  3. Bro you have twice the experience as me so I definitely won't bash. I do jump a "big" 136 so hopefully my post won't be worthless to you although I can't comment about your canopy, WL, or anything. I did however have 4 month or so layoff after I decided it would be a good idea to swoop in turbulent conditions and had what is called a SLAP tear in my left shoulder when my canopy bucked and yanked my shoulder almost out of socket. I continued to jump for awhile, but ended up requiring surgery. It was particularly bad because it included a tear of the biceps tendon. MY experience is layoffs suck ass! Listen to the doctors. Don't skimp on the rehab (if it is necessary in your situation) and don't try to come back earlier then they advise even if you feel okay. Not a lot of docs will like to say it is ok to jump again, but they should be willing to say when it is safe to return to sports. When you do come back it might be a bit unnerving your first jump. It was for me at least, but with your experience it might be less of a deal for you. It is like riding a bike though. I took it easy with swooping for awhile knowing I was uncurrent and all was well. The hardest part for me was dealing with the depression of not being able to jump. Sat around at home on pain meds for awhile but realized quickly they were making my depression worse. I put away the pills and started hanging out at the DZ even though I couldn't jump and it helped a lot just being around my buddies again. I am back in the air, but my particular injury is a nasty one. They say it could take a full year before my shoulder feels "normal" again. It is strong enough to jump and stuff. I have no worries about that, but I still get what I call "ghost pains" in the area. For awhile after surgery my shoulder actually felt worse than before the surgery. I was pissed, confused, and scared. Most of the time the injury I had ends baseball pitchers careers from what I have been told. They just never get back to speed and strength. I realize my injury is totally different than yours but layoffs all the same, suck ass. Keep your chin up bro. You bailed from your rears and saved a much worse fate. I think as we get more competent we start to ignore little signs and warnings that we shouldn't. I know I did. I had no business yanking on those fronts with how bumpy it was, but I did anyway because I had gotten away with it before. Lesson learned for me. I will try to remember to live to swoop another day next time. Heal fast man. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  4. #185 not 4 Been too damn long!!!!! I am an asshole, but I am honest
  5. Booth's Law #1 I am an asshole, but I am honest
  6. From my understanding yes. I was not there and receives information second hand FWIW. It failed the second time as well. I do not know the exact number of yeas and nays for each time however. Last I looked the votes were not published but that was the same day still. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  7. Have you actually read the thread? See post #23. Of course I have contacted the USPA. Sorry, cant really put a poll on their website or Facebook page. Once again the Chairman of the C&B Committee has agreed to bring the discussion to the committee and I am hoping this poll would kind of show the support of my view. At least I am trying to do something about it and not just being a fuckstick I am an asshole, but I am honest
  8. Correction. It failed TWICE. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  9. I think a new thread should be started in regards to salaries and qualifications and such. This thread is supposed to be about voting by name and secret ballots. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  10. I wonder why it was shut down exactly? As far as emails go I don't know, because I have never even attended a meeting myself, but how would they be disruptive to the meeting? It's not like the board has to respond to emails during the meeting is it? I would think a streaming of the meeting would be awesome and may be the easiest way to go. Cost my ass. Spot you are knowledgeable about that type of thing. I wouldn't think there is much cost at all. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  11. That is really the only counter argument I see, and I get it, but I feel there could be an easily accomplished middle ground. Routine unanimous votes could not be bothered to be recorded, but when there is disputed issues the members of the association should be able to see who is voting for what, and being told to attend is unrealistic for most of us. I can also see where a secret ballot my be useful in some instances, such as voting where nationals are to be held as was brought to my attention, however it is used in other ways that are just plain copouts apparently. I believe the system needs some change and the common member does not have a clear picture of what exactly is taking place. We should demand more, and I think those who are truly "representing" us should support such change. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  12. Spot I realize your question was directed at topdocker, however I think he believes that votes should be by name and your post just furthers justification for the same. I am curious if anyone would actually be willing to defend opposition. I have a feeling the no votes are just trolls or people that realize there is no legitimate counter-argument. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  13. Oh ya totally invalid. I see a bunch of non USPA members swaying this one. Did you read the comment directly above yours? The appropriate USPA member has been contacted. It's a joke anyone has even voted no. No one cares to defend that position publicly apparently. Although I am certainly open to debate. Your comment is invalid. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  14. I agree. I have been in contact with Mike Mullins the appointed Chairman of the Constitution and By Laws Committee and he seems receptive to a change. I told him about this poll so I am hoping to get active participation in it. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  15. I was told it was one of the members that was voting "no" on the measure that requested the secret ballot and was doing so for well intended motives, i.e. it was not a lets see if we can pass it the second time around this way; however I feel on principle a secret ballot of any kind for any reason is BS. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  16. This assertion is ridiculous. I forget which show number it was but John was on Skydive Radio a few years ago and stated they were also experimenting with a similar design. Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots. Where is the evidence, besides "hearsay" I am an asshole, but I am honest
  17. I wonder who the no votes are and if they are willing to publicly defend their decision? I am an asshole, but I am honest
  18. Which Mod do I contact to have it moved? I am an asshole, but I am honest
  19. Ya I think so too. I was hoping to get good participation in this poll and being it to the appropriate person in USPA and hell see if we can get that changed. Pipe dream probably but you can't do if you don't try first. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  20. Well I didn't know where to put it. The BOD sounded like it was just for elections by reading the description. It is kind of politics, albeit USPA politics so I figured fuck it SC. I am an asshole, but I am honest
