However, based on actual data the most likely life/death situation I'm likely to encounter BY FAR is while skydiving or Scuba diving and I don't think your advice will help. I understand your point, but you cannot assume that it will NEVER happen to you. Yes, there have been violent crimes committed in affluent areas. Lots of things *might* happen. If I worried about all of them I'd never leave the bunker. So I just worry about the likely risks. I fully understand. I may be a bit more protective due to my age and family circumstances (wife, kids) and I will do whatever it takes to protect them. You do realize that keeping a gun in the home does in and of itself present a risk to your family that is greater than that of a stranger entering your house with intent to hurt them. Right? It's your call, but I hope you have it properly secured if your kids are little. It is, and they know what it can do and to not touch it. One of these days I'll take them out to the gun range when they're ready for it, if they want to. Pea shooters only for them though. Mine's a .45. Nah, I'm okay. I realize this is just an internet forum. Opinions being spat from every angle. Sometimes I learn, sometimes I laugh, sometimes I want to throw up. I can't verify it right at the moment, but I think I read somewhere that the confederate flag didn't start getting widespread use across the south until the 1950's, when the Civil Rights movement was just getting started. To no one in particular... I live in a semi-rural little town with a diverse population, both ethnic and economic. There are good white folks, good black folks, well-to-do folks, middle class folks, trailer folks, white trailer trash folks, black trailer trash folks, it runs pretty much the whole gamut. Most of the locals keep to themselves, but... in my first 5 years, my house was broken into 3 times, which I suspect was by outsiders who hang out with friends up the street who went canvassing the area for targets. I got armed, and got an alarm system on the house. No issues since. My best friends are ADT, Smith and Wesson. There will be no addressing the customers as "Bitches", "Morons" or "Retards"!
