  1. I just found out what Spaceland is charging for a team room and is not providing anything but a bare room. $1,000.00???? (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) (I hope I'm wrong) Is this normal or is it pricey? Sounds pricey to me. I also just found out what it would cost for a sponsor to put up a tent..............Holy Crap!!!!!!! Have any of you checked on this? No wonder there aren't very many sponsors. There's trouble in River City. *************************************** BTW Krip, this is not a reply to you I just happen to hit the reply on the latest post and it was yours.
  2. Is it at all possible that PD's delay in getting the larger Optimums approved could be competition motivated? In other words someone in power and competing in business is purposely delaying the process??
  3. This boogie seems to invite this type of thing. Someone moved an airplane from the parking area and put it under the loading tent the year before. The year before that or maybe even that year, people from the club got caught driving up and down the runway late at night. They do the keg stacking/bowling and have several people injured to the point of going to the ER. When you allow and actually promote drinking 24/7 these things will happen. So "Dude it's a boogie" seems to be appropriate here.
  4. Take it from someone who has paid through the nose for my first 50 - 60 jumps. Some times we newer jumpers get the feeling all that anyone cares about, is how much money we can bring to their wallets. I've talked to a friend with lots of years in the sport who only does video (not an AFFI or TI). He doesn't post here but he said that it's no one's business if the AFFI or Coach wants to shoot video for debriefing. Even if he gives the student a copy, he says he could care less. He and I both agree that many people in this sport have become hoars for money and that's all they care about. Tell those who are bitching that if they're going to walk around with their "panties in a bunch" it would be much more comfortable for them to just buy a "thong". But that's just me........
  5. "Sudafed" is actually a brand name for a drug called pseudoephedrine hydrochloride. This is the main ingredient used for making "crystal meth". For that reason many states moved the product to behind the pharmacy counter and you have to show an ID in order to buy it. Don't let that diswade you. As long as you're not buying massive quantities at various stores you'll be fine. I don't buy the brand name product "Sudafed" because it's 3 to 4 times the cost for a generic. Instead I go to Walmart and ask for their corporate brand which is "Equate" and their generic Sudafed which is called "Suphedrine". Don't get sucked into buying "Sudafed PE". This is a product they came out with so they would not have to put it behind the drug counter. It's not the same and doesn't work well. Make sure the ingedient is "Pseudoephedrine HCI 30 mg" It's very inexpensive and works wonders on sinus and ear congestion. Many people have some level of ear congestion even if they don't realize it. I take it every day that I jump. I keep several packages in my gear bag, car and back pack. Here is some formal information from Web MD. ****************************************** Pseudoephedrine Generic Name: pseudoephedrine (soo doe eh FEH drin) Brand Names: Cenafed, Chlor Trimeton Nasal Decongestant, Decofed, Dimetapp Decongestant, Drixoral Decongestant Non-Drowsy, Elixsure Decongestant, Genaphed, Kid Kare Drops, Ridafed, Seudotabs, Sudafed, Sudrine, Suphedrin, Triaminic Softchews Allergy Congestion, Unifed What is pseudoephedrine? Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passages. Dilated blood vessels can cause nasal congestion (stuffy nose). Pseudoephedrine is used to treat nasal and sinus congestion, or congestion of the tubes that drain fluid from your inner ears, called the eustachian (yoo-STAY-shun) tubes. Pseudoephedrine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. ****************************************** Good luck. Keep those ears clear........
  6. OK for those of you who are filming tandems please help me out. I'm really curious as to the length of real time for your editing process, including capture, changing text on credits, music setup, rendering, burning (everything). Once you get into your editing suite and begin your editing process, how long does it take for you to be able to hand the customer a finished product (start to finish). And how long is the customer's video?? (final product length) ie. 6 minutes? 8 minutes? 10 minutes? Thanks for your help.
  7. I heard that the next round of finalists were supposed to be announced around the 3rd or 4th of November. Anyone know anything? It seems like this is beeing kept pretty hush hush. I thought there was going to be some blogging about the process. We are awaiting anxiously........feed me Seymore.
  8. Off topic a bit but how much do you guys charge for hand cam video?
  9. Try PD's fly before you buy program. You can demo any canopy you want for two weeks for basically shipping costs. And they will help you decide what to start with. It's a no brainer. I don't understand anyone buying a canopy before they put at least a dozen jumps on it first. Here is the web address: www.performancedesigns.com
  10. I do know one guy who made the cut. He's getting his video ready. I don't think he wants people to know. He's pretty humble.
  11. I thought 16:9 is considered wide-screen. What am I missing here.
  12. OK. I asked DSE a couple of questions in the PMs. He said it would be best for him to answer them in the forum. So I'll wait. Right now I'm just curious about my post above.
  13. Is the PC 1000 better image quality than the PC330 or PC350?
  14. So DSE, since I cannot afford to get a different helmet for a while, which means I have to side mount my camera. Is there any other side mount you would recommend over the PC 1000? Any help you are willing to give is very appreciated. Thanks to all who have contributed.
  15. Do you mind explaining the differences? And what makes the 1000 better? Thanks
  16. OK, so I have a chance to buy a used camera and I would like some help. I am looking at a PC 9 and a PC 1000. They both look well taken care of and both seem to work well. I have not seen any footage from either of these cameras. Could someone (or everyone) please tell me what your thoughts are on these cameras. Any thing would help as I'm new to this. I'm especially interested in knowing if the image is any better on one than the other. I've done some searches but I didn't really find what I'm looking for. I know that many of you would say not to strap on a camera but I am already jumping a used FF2 helmet with no camera in it. All I'm going to do is put the camera in and then turn it on in the plane and forget about it until after I land. The helmet does not have a sight and I don't plan on adding one any time soon. I also can not afford any of the new really cool stuff. I want to use the helmet I already have. So I would be grateful for any help. Thanks
  17. I just wanted to say thanks to all the people who sent me PMs. I really got a lot of very useful information about the the big way at the Couch Freak boogie and big ways in general. I am pretty disappointed to hear that Sandy is not a regular organizer at this boogie. That just makes no sense at all. He told me about the Redemption boogie in Nebraska that I plan on attending and of course I hope to jump with him at Summerfest next year. In my experience the organizer makes a huge difference in the outcome of the skydives. Thanks again everyone.
  18. Is that a lay out of how the record was suppose to build? (before being all cut up) Your tag says you survived a low canopy collision. If that's true, whats the story?
  19. I'm not sure what you mean by touchy but I will im you.
  20. OK so it sounds like this Bob and Mary are good big way jumpers and from the same DZ (maybe even a couple (bf/gf ??) So why would he go on the big way but not her, (assuming they both have the skills)? And someone said that "there were plenty of talented jumpers at the boogie who could have done this but chose not to. Maybe because they had been on so many garbage loads before." Is this boogie known for bad big ways or garbage loads? And by big way I mean something that takes at least two planes like 30 or more. It sounds like people weren't doing what they were told. I know you can't control what they do in free fall but if they are breaking the rules with the landing pattern, that would make me very nervous. Obviously we've lost a lot of good skydivers in the last two years due to landing patterns. That's just dangerous. When I come to this boogie next year I was thinking I might want to get on something bigger. Maybe 30 or so, (I know I'm not ready for 60 ways). But now I'm not sure. I plan on going to a lot of boogies in the next year and maybe even a big way camp. And now that I finally have a decent job, I also plan on making a lot more jumps than I have been. When I was jumping with Sandy at Summerfest, I told him I was interested in doing bigger things so he put me me towards the back on the 18 and 20 ways. He said I did a good job and that I was not the weak link. Frankly, we did some fantastic jumps so I'm not sure who could have been a weak link but I was just glad to hear that it wasn't me. BTW: I'm kind of slight in build and he said that gives me an advantage over a lot of other jumpers. Like "Justchuteme" said, it sounds like Sandy doesn't organize big ways. I know he didn't do any at Skydive Chicago. For those who have been to this boogie and know how it works do you think it would be smarter for me to just stick with the organizer I know. (and maybe feel out the big way stuff. like from the ground) I mean if all I do at this boogie is the kind of jumps I did with him in Ottowa, I will be very happy camper! Thanks for all your help (Edited) I didn't see Rehmwa's posts before. You kind of answered a couple of my questions but now I have another. I thought Justchuteme said Sandy only does regular organizing at this boogie not big ways.?? Now I'm a bit more confused.
  21. Yeah that's his name. Sandy. I did some really nice jumps with him at Skydive Chicago. He did more than just figure out the dive. It was more like getting coaching. I was a bit surprised he let me jump with him because he was organizing the higher time group. There were other organizers for the lower time jumpers. I guess it's becasue I was in the hangar early one morning and he asked if I wanted to do a 4 way on the first load. It was a good jump and I did pretty good. He just kept taking my ticket as the group got bigger. But as I said he did a lot of coaching me on what he wanted me to do. Most of the time I did ok and on the times I was less than stellar he just took me aside and told how to correct my flying and it seemed to work. I can't believe he wasn't on the big way.
  22. I'm not really planning on trying to get on anything that size yet, although I was told by an organizer at Summerfest that he was impressed with my swooping skills and discipline. His name escapes me but he was from Iowa. Probably on the big way at Couch. You brought up something I was wondering about. If all the organizers were from Texas, and not really familiar with the locals that attend that boogie, how would they know whether people have the skills and how would they know where best to slot everybody? Is it just by what people tell them during the registration process? Also does that big way site keep track of how well people did at events so organizers can read reviews about potential participants? If so that would be handy. And you haven't answered my question about why they could do a 60 way a few years ago. Was that just a fluke?
  23. OK I'm getting some good information here. Thanks. It sounds like I should not try to do a big way at a boogie because the talent just isn't there. Although you guys said that the organizers brought in 50 people and only had to fill 16 slots. I would think you should be able to find 16 capable people at a boogie of 500, but what do I know. Two of you say that 3 jumps is just not enough especially at a boogie. But that you did a 60 way in 3 jumps a few years ago. Is that just dumb luck? If you have the same organizers (assuming they were the same) and mostly the same people it seems that 66 should be doable. What am I missing here? Or like I said was the last 60 way just a fluke? Like Jim said, I have heard that the boogie is more about the party and less about good skydives. Personally I like to do both. I can't wait to go next year. Jim, I'll check into the camps.
  24. I can understand that weather can be an issue but from what a friend told me, it sounds like the weather during the big way jumps was perfect. He of course was only watching from the ground. Your analogy using the 4 and 8 way doesn't really make sense to me. I've heard that only very good and qualified jumpers are invited on the big ways. I would think that they should be the cream of the crop. I've heard that the boogie had over 500 jumpers. If they used the best of the best shouldn't it have a better shot at success. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate your insight but with all the people reading this thread someone must have been on that big way that has some first hand information. Come on people tell me something so I can learn before going to one of those camps. BTW I don't think I have enough jumps to do one of those camps yet. How many jumps do you need?
