  1. Thanks will check out the link. Fun banned in NYC? Dammed OH&S nazis. Anywhere AROUND NYC The ranch, long island. Anywhere with hire gear. Might have do the car or motorbike hire again.....based on the cab ride from the airport this arvo that could be amost as much a buzz in itself...
  2. Anyone jumping around New York this week? Am staying near times square and would love to try and get a few jumps in somewhere. Happy to pay fuel & beer if anyone in the area is going skydiving wed->sat this week?
  3. Cheers guys. :) I think it might be easiest if I hire a car for the day. (More time for jumping. :))
  4. G'day, Anyone going to Skydance tomorrow from SanFran? (Or any DZ open tomorrow that has hire-gear.) Or knows what bus to catch from the Fishermans Wharf area? Am googling my ass off and only coming up with tour-bus results. Cheers, Doug
  5. Yup the movie was f**kin gold! Roofie's, chinese gangs and stealing pussy from Tyson are out. Just wondering if there was any "must do" clubs/places in Vegas for a bucks night. No plans at all so far. (Figure you guys would know better than google.) The bride seems to think that we'll be meeting up with the Hen's party at the end of the night. That's on the same list as the roofies.
  6. A mate getting married in Las Vegas in May 2010. (None of us having been to the US before.) I figured this would be a good place to ask for idea's on places to take/carry/drag him. Buck's Night will be a tuesday night, 2 days before the wedding. So he'll have a day to recover/post bail. Any suggestions?
  7. Sounds like with time and taking it easy/following the advice you should be fine. Over the years (inc. motorbikes and sports other than skydiving) I've smashed up both my knees to the point of having both bone and cartilage removed. (With my knee swelling to the size of my thigh.) I can't say what would work for you to speed up recovery. But what has worked for me is taking glucosamine & chondroitin along with cod liver oil to help the joints. I also did/do a lot of walking at the beach, low impact on the joint, but you can still keep the muscles and ligaments strong. (If that's too much walk laps of a swimming pool.)

  9. Well I had an absolute blast in the tunnel on saturday. Still grinning from ear to ear. Did 70min worth over about 4hrs. Before putting the wings on I started of with 5 x 2 min flat. Then 5 x 2 min back flying and goofing off. Put the wings on and did a 2min session, no worries at all, felt comfortable straight away. Then did a 5min session where I messed about as if I was filming RW's (flat) then tandems (hanging off the wings) which I got recorded onto dvd. Was great to be able spend more than just 60sec trying to get a feel for the wings and not have to think about everything else associated with a skydive and just focus on what I was doing. Learn sh*tloads and had absolute ball. Came out with a few bruises, but that was from being a clown backflying. F**k I'm sore today.
  10. Appreciate the feedback guys. Have done about 20 jumps so far filming 4 ways etc. and been getting advice n feedback from the experienced crew at the DZ. (No ringsight, just a marker on the googles.) Have done a few solo's learning how camera wings work, but with no relative reference to know what's doing what so to say, I just thought that since I have the chance to play in a tunnel it could be a good way to learn. I'll definately do some time first without the wings as I did wonder about how much more likely I'd be to pinball around the tunnel walls. Will most likely come back with a few bruises, but that'll be half the fun. Cheers, Doug
  11. Gonna go play in a tunnel next weekend. Learning how to fly camera.....so I was wondering.....why not get some practice flying camera wings in the tunnel? Hadn't found anything on DZ about it....any reason not to?
  12. Check you are zoomed all the way out. If you have accidentally left the camera zoomed in slightly, you won't be able to set the manual focus that short.
  13. Awesome! Great to see that OH&S hasn't turned everyone soft. Exactly. Same goes for any sport or advances in any field, from science to politics.
  14. Thank god our forefathers didn't think like we do now! Else we'd all be drinking warm beer and walking around singing 'god save the queen'.
  15. Bugger. I've googled, browsed online shops and come up with zilch. Sighting in the TG1 is turning out to be a pain in the butt.
  16. Anyone know where you can get a Sony VMC-15FS type cable with the camera connector bent at 90deg? Ie: as per the Hypoxic connector. Cheers. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v73/doug1277/VMC-15FS.jpg Need this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v73/doug1277/90bend.jpg Instead of this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v73/doug1277/VMC-15FS-plug.jpg
  17. I finally got to have a play with the TG1 and cookie setup this weekend. Thanks to kate aka loftybanter for the setup tips in her white paper. Personally I think that the TG1 puts out a better quality image than most/all of Sony's predecessors. which are still being work jumped.... Compared against the current crop HD camera's, not AS good if you pixel peep side by side footage, but you wouldn't look at the TG1's footage and go "oh that is so Sanyo". It still looks great, and I can't imagine a punter complaining about the footage unless you left dirt or jizz on the lens. But that's just my theory. I've uploaded a file from the weekend. A 245meg, 3.5min clip of me chasing a 4-way. From exit to landing. Nothing flash, so no point downloading it unless you are really interested in seeing the quality.....of the footage.....not my noob flying. It was recorded in SD, max quality, with a Cookie MVX setup, Liquid 0.5 lens, manual focus, no ringsight, on my 3rd jump trying to film....anything. Here's the file, straight off the camera: *REMOVED* I can't imagine I'll leave it online for long as I expect my bandwidth for the month to get blown fairly soon.... Hopefully this is of use to people. :) **Edit: Removed the full clip, it would only take 10ppl to blow my quota. In this directory are 3 files, roughly 10sec's, filenames explanatory, to show how the camera went in that situation. Chopped up using the camera, not PC software. http://www.sunburntphotography.com/Video/Plane.MPG http://www.sunburntphotography.com/Video/Rel.MPG http://www.sunburntphotography.com/Video/Landing.MPG
  18. DSE: Cheers. But I was meaning by way of image quality. That's intersting to know though! Squeak: Yeah would be interesting to compare the difference models everyone had on the big TV... I wouldn't expect the TG1 to match the image quality of a CX12.....but if a HC52 or some of the old bunky models at the DZ look better, that would be dissappointing.
  19. DSE: Are you referring in comparison to just the other HD models in Sony's current range, or across the board? How would you rate the TG1 compared to the likes of the current HC52, or older PC series models?
  20. Interesting posts. Weight: Yeah if you buy a cheap one they are going to be about 1kg heavier. But this will have less of an impact on you neck than a top mounted camera. Visibility: Go put a helmet on, and look down, unless you've got your Imperial Storm Trooper, or Iron Man helmet on, or a neck bigger than fat albert you should be able to see your nipples (blokes). If you're handles are higher than that, you've got a problems anyway. Actually if you've got a neck like FA then you can probably see your nipples in the Iron Man Helmet. Visor opening: Ever watched a MotoGP race? I think Nicky Hayden still races, give him a call and ask him what speeds the guys in front do. They definately offer more protection than the eskys we normally put on our mellons. But the protection is probably only really benificial to swoopers or a regular jumper than doesn't know how to flare. The reality is you won't look cool. (Unless you're swooping.) So best not to wear one.
  21. DSE: (Or anyone) What sorta spec level do you think you'd need out of a laptop to be able to edit digital footage? I realise a desktop pc would be a more powerful (better)option, but a laptop that could run Vegas and do the jump footage would be mighty handy.
  22. Most motorbike shops have products you can buy to clean the linings of helmets. Have some at home, I forget the name.
  23. Nice try? Try nice offer. Think a little harder about it mate.
  24. Nice one. Would love to go for a jump in SA before I head home but the places I've emailed either don't have hire gear, or don't have a plane. (Looks like more interesting scenery than the farmland at home.) Who's in charge of organising the comp? If there was enough competitors to chip in the equivalent of a jump ticket it might subsidise a flight back here and they could all have copies of the original pic's....? Cheap photo's for them, cheap flight for me. (Would just haveta get the leave from work.) http://www.sunburntphotography.com/phpAlbum/main.php?cmd=album&var1=Events%2FAus+Canopy+Nationals+2008%2FA+Sample/
