  1. You have 4 employees. #1 makes 6.50/hr #2 makes 6.50/hr #3 makes 5.15/hr $4 makes 5.15/hr Each one works a 30 hour week. (fast food teens rarely get more than 35 per pay week) This brings your total weekly labor cost to $699 for 120 hours of labor. If you fire employee #4 and evenly divide the hours between the remaining 3 (40 hours per week for each employee) you then end up paying $726 for the SAME 120 hours of labor! So I dont think it's necessary to speculate what having to pay employees overtime would do to your weekly labor cost. So this translates to firing your higher paid regulars and hiring minimum wage people to replace them. Also this assumes that 120 labor hours per week lets your business run optimally. That is to say... you're not over working your employees and not over paying them. Anytime you make adjustments, things change. For better or worse usually takes a while to be seen.
  2. Here's an idea. (Warning this is layman's speak) #1. Government stops throwing money into the Middle-Eastern abyss. #2. Bring taxes back to a sustainable level. #3. Then take that money and pay down our national debt thereby increasing the actual value of our currency. #4. At the same time, divert portions of that money into subsidizing employer insurance premiums so that the minimum wage increase is at least partially negated. WAIT! I forgot. We won't make it past step 1.
  3. Thanks. I was really uncertain about the downsizing capabilities of the containers obviously and I had a momentary lapse of memory about how you can always sell your container if you "out grow" it hah. Very helpful response.
  4. Specifically I'm thinking about when it's appropriate to buy your harness/container. The issues I'm seeing in my mind are ordering a customer rig designed (according to the manufacturer) for lets say a 190 sq ft canopy (I assume there is a bit of packing bulk difference between 7-cell and 9-cell) and then a couple years later wanting to downsize to a 160-170. Where is the point at which a container is inappropriately large for your size canopy (after downsizing) and should that have a bearing on when you get your first harness? Am I overcomplicating it or is it as simple as getting comfortable and proficient with a 1.0 WL (or whatever WL is determined by your instructor to be appropriate for your skill level) and ordering a rig based on a that WL with a size that would be fine with a downsize or two. This isn't the most important thing nor the first thing I need to be thinking about but I'm a thinker and I like asking questions, hence my asking. Hope this makes sense.
  5. 35 gauss magnets for the covers. 80 gauss: Bill's quote for screwing up a credit card from the Mythbusters. DSE's quote was 70+ gauss to screw up the tape. Knew I should have re-watched it as I was typing That was just the number that stuck in my head. Good save
  6. Now you're just trying to stir things up again. You bumped both of the "and proud of it" threads.
  7. Bill Booth addresses the Cypres concern as well as pacemakers. Supposedly he had the riser covers at a DZ where a man with a pacemaker took them and put them right next to his pacemaker and suffered no ill effects. I forget what all was said regarding the Cypres. If it won't mess with a pacemaker when a guy puts it as close to his as possible... I doubt it will mess with avionics.
  8. As far as the specs on the magnets go, I believe in the video he flat-out says that they are using 35 gauss magnets or something close to that. Of course... how many it takes to make 5 lbs of pull force is just a matter of seeing one of the rigs with it.
  9. I'm just glad my desire to get involved in a long term (potentially child-bearing) relationship is likely not going to make it's apperance until I'm in my mid 30's. I'm not done growing as an individual. The last thing I want to do is short-change myself on experiences that obligations/responsibilities to someone else would supercede. That and hopefully by the time I'm in my 30's (21 now) a woman will come along that shares my attitudes about life and love.
  10. I'm not a huge fan of any "metal" music but any guitar player could be impressed by these guys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIiJYHRFpvE Simply amazing. BTW, if you don't like it, I've already assumed most wouldnt
  11. When no one can make a riser cover that stays closed. Maybe I'm misreading your response. I'm under the impression that the magnetic covers are to compensate for the problem of riser covers NOT opening.
  12. Unless it's on fire... it don't count.
  13. Make sure your various browser plugins (java/flash) are enabled... I'm using IE7 and it works great.
  14. Watching the PIA video with Bill Booth it would seem that the biggest improvement he showed off was the magnetic riser covers. My question is two-fold. When could we expect something like that to become the next "standard"? Would it be conceivable to retrofit rigs without them?
  15. Great! Then you can get a credit card/s and pay for your rig My car is paid off March 15th, then I will use the 2nd job for the 2 months following plus my former car payment will pay off my credit card... then I'll use the credit card to start the training and the money I make from week to week will pretty much enable me to spend all weekend every weekend at the DZ unti I'm licensed. EDIT: As far as my rig is concerned.... if i don't get a card with a higher limit than 1k (I have very little credit history) I'lll probably have to see about taking out a new loan either with prosper.com or through a very nice bank.
  16. I've been working for a company under a temp agency for the past 3 months. I will actually be employed by the company this month and that will start the 3 month countdown until I have insurance again. When I've had the option for insurance... I've always had it.
  17. start my training in June. Another 20 hours per week for the next 2 months will let me essentially pay for my entire IAD course in cash and (weather permitting) complete it in 1 month. I'm insane.
  18. Combining even and though isn't going to scare anyone. Blues, Dave Touché!
  19. I suspected someone bent a few rules here for comic effect. Ignorance is where it's at folks.
  20. "Fear of long words." This has been a public service announcement.
  21. Amazing. This concludes my history lesson for today.
  22. Roommates went grocery shopping last night... and picked up this peculiar chocolate milk mix. Immediately there were comments that the guy on the label was Jesus and the Burger King. I leave it for you to decide. Regardless... what a weird name for chocolate milk powder.
  23. I wonder if Scott Lutz ever figured out that he was an idiot.
  24. I don't know what you'd have to say about the credibility... but ... http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1836&string=double%20cypress%20save EDIT: Neat thing about the video is you see the other guy's cypres fire the reserve so IMO, this video is one of the best I've seen.
