  1. It's a new paradigm, and everybody who doesn't buy, now, will be priced out forever. Anybody who does buy will be rewarded with a lifetime of riches, as their property will continue its 30% yearly price increase. Renters, and anybody born in a future generation, will not be able to afford a $10,000,000 starter home in 15 years. They will live in tent cities, and Hondas. This asset bubble is different than all of the others - it will never slow down, or pop. The gains are permanent. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
  2. Websites that are friendly to those on dial up are nice. It's possible to have an awesome looking website that loads in less than 3 minutes on 56k. But something makes me think you won't be getting much into Flash. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
  3. I said, in the context of working towards the greater good, they are the enemy. They are the opposition of progress. And your caveat to "Christians aren't against stem cell research" is in the omisison of the word "embryonic". There is pretty much only one other way to harvest stem cells and that is from the nose. Of course our fantastic FDA won't approve the procedure though it's already helped the people with enough money to have it done in another country. We are talking letting people walk who had, what at one point or another was considered, terminal paralysis. Doesn't matter though. You're playing games of semantics. "We like stem cell therapy, so long as it doesnt come from embryos." And as far as the "killing a baby" comment goes... Using unwanted embryos for stem cell therapy is about like squashing bug eggs. Except that in the case of stem cell therapy, a benefit to mankind is provided. The sacrifice of one for the benefit of many is a justified sacrifice indeed. And don't throw it back at me saying "What if we wanted to sacrifice you?" The difference between me and a lump of cells is that I have a consciousness. EDIT: BTW, as far as I'm concerned using government funding for embryonic stem cell therapy activity is on par with a national highway system and social security (when it works.) ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

  7. As of 2001, Less than 80% of the US population were considered of Christian affiliation and of that it looks as though 25% were catholic (take that for what you will.) The %age is trending downward but the number of participants has rose. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
  8. Note that the religious definition of marriage and the legal definition have no implicit need to be the same. Religion isn't meant to be fair to everyone. In the context of societal laws, we tend to take the opposite approach. If two guys (or two girls) want to "get married" to enjoy the LEGAL benefits of marriage as provided by the STATE (not god or a church institution), so be it. That is fair and just. The idea behind government is to protect the people from which it derives it's power. The potential (and already realized) benefits of stem cell research far outweight the cost of terminating either: A. an unwanted pregnancy B. a cloned and relatively unparented embryo There are millions of people in the world that can benefit from stem cell therapy. Some of these people are your relatives and friends. Yet conservative christian pro-lifers are doing their best to prevent that from happening. In the context of working towards the greater good, conservative christian agendas are the enemy. In conclusion, these are only 2 very important ways that your beliefs and subsequent actions (instigated by those beliefs), like voting in approval of the agendas and people who support them, have REAL, TANGIBLE effects on the everyday lives of those who do AND don't share those beliefs. I hope that answered the question. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
  9. My only issue with Trillian was that i spent most of the movie looking at her thinking "Wait. Is she cute? Do I like how she looks? I'm confused." Frankly, I think she needed a different facial structure but she has the black hair and blue eyes thing going. In the end I ranked her as a high 3 or low 4. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
  10. No, not that I remember unless a story slipped my memory. Ironic that you say this the way you say it when the most devout among you will chant self-defeatist rhetoric about how weak and puny we are as humans. How can the natural experience the supernatural if the supernatural doesn't make itself available to be experienced in a natural manner? The only real argument I have against christianity is this. It is biblical that you must have faith in god to receive salvation. Faith is expressly necessary where there is a lack of certainty, knowledge, or evidence. By believing through faith, you show love for your god which is why your god demands faith. If you, as a natural being, were to experience god in a natural way (touching, tasting, smelling, hearing, seeing) you would have certainty through evidence and knowledge. Of course this is provided that no other possible explanation (very strict here) could be offered for what you experienced. It would have to be god, and god would have to be in the natural realm for you to naturally experience it. As a result, if you ever, with 100% certainty, KNEW, in such away that NO ONE could possibly deny it was true, that god existed due to your experiences, you would not need faith. It's not to say that you wouldn't love god. But you wouldn't be showing love through faith which god expressly demands in the bible as a prerequisite for salvation (and in my opinion, the only prerequisite that matters). The point of this being that christians, by definition, do not KNOW with 100% certainty that god exists. If they did, they could prove god in a way that no one could deny. But in order for that to happen, they would have to sacrifice faith and those without faith would have no problem 'realizing the truth'. I'm not saying god doesn't exist, I'm saying no one can know. You can believe, but you can't know. This is based on biblical principles. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

  16. Actually, more funny than the price for that car, yesterday a technician was doing a PDI test drive. While accelerating on the on ramp and negotiating a turn, the technician immediately noted how the vehicle decided it didn't want to steer anymore. Ran it off the on ramp. No better way to instill confidence in a vehicle manufacturer. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

  18. I'll add to that. The heart (emotion/feeling) is deceitful so you can't trust your heart. Your mind (thought/reasoning) is limited in it's capacity to understand things of god, so that's shot. And you have a sinful nature which puts your will (action/desire) against the will of god, so you're fucked there too. These 3 things comprise the soul. There is no evidence of any "spirit" and Royd already clarified that humans are pretty much incapable of experiencing things of the spirit so that's worthless. Tell me, again, what christian's have to offer as a foundation of their belief? Outside of self-defeating rhetoric like that offered up by paj (no offense to paj). ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
  19. And I'll mention it again, didn't the people of Egypt have a story of a major figure (Horus) that the story of Jesus is 95% carbon copied from? I guess satan made it that way to help discredit Jesus. You christian's don't miss a beat. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
  20. Again, this is only more evidence that your god doesn't want you to know he/she/it exists. It all ends up being "I felt god's presence" which is a totally subjective experience which by nature, does not provide evidence for anything outside of your capability to self-induce feelings you attribute to the presence of god. I can fantasize about naked women and induce feelings as well. It's called using my imagination. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
  21. Feelings and emotions are not a basis for a system of belief and are not evidence of some greater power other than the influence of social programming. You feel it's true because you want it to be true. Christianity is no different from any other religion in the context of people "feeling" like what they believe is the truth. Muslim's feel like their religion is the truth. Jews, yep. What you're speaking of is nothing substantial in assisting your case, and frankly, nothing special. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!

  24. Exactly. Watching videos it looks like the two would have to be flying side by side and toggle one way then the other to swing towards each other, and hopefully lock legs. That's the only thing I can imagine working. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
  25. Faith negates proof as it eliminates the need for evidence. Faith cannot work as evidence because it would provide proof. If you have evidence, you can have proof, thus negate the need for faith. God requires faith, thus you cannot have evidence and, subsequently, proof. This is why there is no evidence or proof supporting god. So any christians who think faith is just as good as evidence and proof is logically and biblically wrong. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
