  1. I probably wouldn't have even heard of that show, except an old friend from high school ("Toasty") is in the second season. Don't believe everything you see on TV.
  2. Best wishes to the skydiving couple who share a birthday.
  3. Congrats on finishing your tandem rating, ya crazy Aussie... And Ryan: Jen and I are laughing at you for the two-sentence post.
  4. Like this? Or do you want to add a Google search function to your site? In that case, go here. Does either of the above help?
  5. I only remember this vaguely, but supposedly Elvis Costello tripped over me at the Mann Music Center (Philadelphia) when I was a toddler. I was in the drama club in high school, and M. Night Shyamalan attended a few of our plays. That's because he was family friends with a few of the cast members, one of whom played Bobby in the Sixth Sense. I talked to Bruce Willis on the phone. Nice guy. He was calling for my dad, who was the physician on the set of Twelve Monkeys. I've met lots of musicians.
  6. I can use BugMeNot to bypass registration for that site, but the link to the video still doesn't work.
  7. Thanks for the advice, guys! I'm still trying to find an aloe plant. Here in central PA, we have cornfields galore, but even Super Wal-Mart has no aloe. Now, how did I manage to scald my face with boiling water, you ask? Blame the eight-legged mofo under the stove. I leaned down to grab him and, victorious, jumped up quickly, bumped the pot of water with enough force to catapult it into the air, and cringed as it flipped over right above my head. I only darted away fast enough to save the left side of my face. Damn. At least the encroaching spider died in one swift blow. So, that's my story. Laugh, point, etc. And keep me away from your kitchens.
  8. Thanks for the tips, guys! Must resist the urge to play with the blister... So, can I still jump this weekend, or will the blister explode during freefall?
  9. If you don't know me, I can tell you two things: a) that I'm absurdly accident prone and b) that I'm clueless when it comes to cooking. Not the greatest of combinations. Without delving into the details of my stupidity, let me just say that I've poured boiling water all over my face and now I have a blister on my cheek that looks like this: clicky Right now I'm just treating it with a cool compress. Is it a bad idea to pop the blister? Can I put neo/polysporin on my face to prevent scarring? What can I do that'll make it heal the fastest and scar the least? Blahhh. I'm afraid of stovetops now. (Edited to make the link clicky)
  10. Heh, I've jumped at three different DZs already and I don't even have my A-license yet. Whorish, I know. :P (edited because I can't spell "whorish")
  11. Actually, an upper respiratory infection is usually just a fancy term for the common cold. But good advice nonetheless.
  12. Me too. I didn't know Shannon personally, but I'll miss her presence on these boards. It's a little late, I know, but my condolences to everyone affected...
  13. Hi, The firewall at my work doesn't block any websites, so I can't test the IE settings for you, but supposedly you just have to configure your preferences for SOCKS: Proxy Type SOCKS (4 or 5) Proxy Address 127.0.0.1 Proxy Port 1080 Not sure if hopster fills in that stuff automatically in IE. I use Firefox. Good luck!
  14. It is bundled with some crap, but you can remove the crap and the program will still function. :P Or, I'm sure there are other tunnelers out there.
  15. Okay, here's the link: http://www.dickinson.edu/~grinspaj/hopster After you've downloaded the file, add the .exe extension to the filename. Then you can run it (it's a setup file). Sorry, Mac users, it only runs on Windows.
  16. Lame. I can host the hopster .exe in my web space and you guys can download it from there. Give me a sec.
  17. Your mice (mouses?) still have balls? I thought everyone used castrated mice nowadays.
  18. Download hopster. It's an HTTP tunneler.
  19. Here's a prank that's tried and true, if your co-worker has a computer. Take a screen capture of her desktop, then set it as wallpaper and hide the real desktop icons in another folder. When your co-worker tries to click on a shortcut item (or alias, on a Mac), nothing will happen because all the icons are just part of the image. (: Of course, don't blame me if she retaliates with a Gila monster on your chair or something.
  20. You're right, except that the p-value has to be less than .05, not greater than it, to reject the null hypothesis (h0). Since p is way the hell bigger than .05, you can't reject h0. In lay terms, that means that the kids who took the SAT course did not perform significantly better than average (494 > 483, but not significantly in this case). I think...
  21. I did a tandem recently. As an adrenaline junkie, I was a little disappointed that nothing terrified me about the ride--not even the launch from the cliff. When I told my instructor that I was *too* relaxed during the flight, he did some high-speed swoops that were kind of fun. Actually, the most exciting part of the ride was the adventure *after* it: we ran out of thermals, so we landed on the nude beach below, took apart the hang glider, and carried it back up the cliff. So I got some climbing out of the experience, too. (: And I learned how to disassemble a hang glider...kind of. Okay, so that information really isn't all that helpful for you. As far as safety goes, I didn't do that much research on hang gliding, but you can get some information from the USHGA Web site: http://www.ushga.org/. I did my tandem at Torrey Pines Gliderport in La Jolla, Ca., and I think I paid about $175. Yes, I enjoyed the flight and yes, I would do it again if money were no issue, but I'd rather spend my cash on jumps than become a certified hang-glider pilot. If you do happen to live anywhere near San Diego/La Jolla (I don't, but I was visiting a friend in the area), I can definitely recommend Torrey Pines as a gliderport. Even though I was just doing a tandem, I got an hour's worth of instruction (we were waiting for winds to pick up!) and I learned all about the mechanics of hang gliding. I also met some great people there (including Dave, my instructor) whom I still keep in touch with. (: Reminded me of DZ culture. I guess that's the only info I can offer. Sorry! Hope it helps a little! Jessica
  22. Thanks, Pancake! Missy, hope to see you at Cross Keys soon!
  23. Yay, I'm current again!! Thanks, Kim and Pancake!
