  1. i didn't link anything to an accident. ok, you are right jump numbers and the experience coming from it does mean a thing. what i was trying to say is that there is a difference between someone who is focused and has the will to do something and works for it(my case and i know of others) and your average dz fun jumper who tries this and that and wingsuits get in their way too. i didn't decide just after jump number 120 that i now want to wingsuit. oh and ws flying is the only reason i still visit dropzones. ws flying is to most beautiful discipline in the skies, imho. and, really, it is not that difficult.
  2. what do you mean have things gone wrong? i very rarely get line twists, but none led to a reserve ride yet. i also had my first and only pc lazy pull/fumble on my very first ws base jump...i made a very stupid mistake( not collapsing the leg wing while searching for the flapping around pc) which sent me head down. so there. that is the only time so far i really fucked up. ironically i almost killed myself in doing so. it never happended again, though. generally i really would consider myself a conservative and safe jumper. i don't take stupid risks.
  3. can't speak of others but in my case: i had 120 skydives when i started. i first did 6 coached jumps on a birdman impact with a bmci. he put me through the whole drill on it, front flips, back flips, barrel rolls, ws pulling etc. to see how i was doing. i then moved on to a classic, still coached and after that got my "cleared for flight". so for me it worked fine. but i focused all my 100 jumps before on freeflying and tracking. also with a coach. jump numbers mean nothing. i've seen some ugly flights by bellyfallers with very high jump numbers. as long as you evaluate the skills properly you don't even need to look at the jump numbers. i think there is a perfect example flying through belgian skies, eh? i then moved on and also took it off the rock after 100 base jumps and 100 ws skydives
  4. the wintec 201 is awesome... logs in the plane(grand caravan) perfectly and in valleys mostly very nice. and klaus, i have a big pile of data coming your way. just got back from switzerland and some of the data sets look weird...some are fine, like this one. phantom from the high nose, yay! i have to work on MY performance, though. google earth file.
  5. ok. installed it and it works. screwed my first 7 flights up by having paralog delete the memory and didn't save it in paralog. oh well. now i just took it up for a base jump, 126 meters, 3 sec delay. paralog doesent record anything obviously, and the track i put into google earth via time machine x looks weird. exit altitude is right but then it doesent really resemble my jump and stops logging at 68 meters. that is in 3d. in 2d flight path looks ok but still starts at 126 and ends at 68.it ends exactly where i turned it off though. any ideas?
  6. i thought about something like this first, just on the rig. like the official pro tracks for speed skydiving. does the fabric obstruct the reception of the unit? probably not, eh?
  7. i bought it on ebay germany for 99 euro.
  8. that looks easy and clean! thanks a lot! i already have a neptune bracket. i'll use that and maybe add 2 tie wraps. unfortunately first flight won't be this weekend. thanks all! n
  9. ok, so i got me one... now how do i mount it? how did you guys mount your gps? and where? helmet or rig? any hints/help would be appreciated. preferably with drawings or photos...i'm not so smart. i was thinking about just glueing a pocket on top of the helmet with some industrial adhesive. helmet is a rat hat. thanks in advance!
  10. hi there, i'll be there from thursday on. so far i'm on my own. i'd be happy to have some company. i'll be staying at the horner, feel free to say hi. i'd also be up for a trip to itw if someone goes. never been to italy though. slightly advanced beginner here, ~60 jumps, 16 slider ups in lb. cheers nico

    Wind Turbines

i had it only once that the blades weren't spinning...it's really no problem. no problem with an 80m one as well. plus you know for sure were the wind is coming from when the blades are spinning. go for it! i think with some wind a windmill is the second safest object you'll find.

well, i now have about 15 jumps from really big ones. 3 mw, 111m height(where the blade is attached) 90 m blade diameter. i've jumped in no to 10+ m/s winds with various delays and, for what it's worth, never noticed anything.1 clean 180(in no winds....), everything else on heading. i jump a vented flik at 0.7. besides its super cool when you climb by the huge blades and it's blowing.. i looove that sound. the shaking sucks though...
  15. ha! i just rebuilt my helmet to a backfilming line snag hazard.... i'll try it next weekend. really looking forward to it. thanks everyone! n
  16. any recomendations? in my case it would be a super tiny girl, 48 kg all geared up or a slightly bigger guy exit weight around 60. how to do this safe? i had the girl hang onto my gear and it felt super light. i guess i have carried backpacks heavier than her. what to expect from my wingsuits flying behaviour/spot? i'm 95 with gear flying a phantom. how do i get rid of the passenger at pull time? just collaps the wings and have her deploy off my back? both are very good freeflyers btw. thanks. n
  17. go for the phacro! it is a lil red (and black) rocket!
  18. sorry...to clarify: i want to start flying as soon as possible. i know i could fall out with my wings collapsed... any hints. body position, timing, anything? i'm the only bird at my dz with no one to ask.
  19. well, i did my first high speed exit this weekend. in a phantom. 3rd ws jump this year/weekend. about 40 total. and it felt...weird. i was rocking and bumping around and just could not get in a(from my gut feeling) proper flying position for the first 1-2sec or so. still stayed a little above the plane all the time, belly to earth, not unstable.it was a tailgate aircraft, i fully spread my wings right on exit. pilot said he heard a bang so loud he thought my suit ripped....it didn't. just a small tear in the leather of one bootie. don't know if it is from that particular exit. sooo...any hints how to do it better?
  20. yes heard all that. i won't go there, no worries. nico, i think we met last weekend at the horner pub? was only short though... cheers n
  21. thanks jarno. i only know one low s in belgium. n
  22. hey, i'll be there for the wingsuit weekend. is it worth bringing my rig? pm would be nice. cheers n
