  1. I was on loads with you guys all day.. Myself and another new guy were working with MJ and Chris all day. Lew videod a couple of our exits in front of you guys
  2. I have heard a couple of stories similar to this one. Do you know MJ? ask him about his.. its getting worse.. he's wearing some sort of (not sure what its called but it holds him together)... and he's still jumping two days a week.. Im going to get mine out of the way before it becomes what they would consider to be urgent. the Dr didnt mention anything about coming back when it hurt.. I think there are different kinds.. Mine is on my right side.. and I cant remember what he called it.. Although he said to continue living like I have.. he did want me to see a surgeon ASAP.
  3. MJ.. Wanted to thank you for the last couple weeks.. I have 40 jumps.. I left AFF thinking.. "this is easy" LMAO.. After I jumped with some real skydivers.. I found out I don’t know shit.. Then I found MJ.. He works close with team fury which makes for an amazing group of folks that take the time to help us new guys Anyway. This is how it worked.. First day.. Met with him and the other student (Ward) and we talked to MJ while he showed us video's and explained physics and why foundations are important.. All the stuff sounds easy.. well.. It takes work.. He really spent alot of time getting us dialed in and understanding the why's before he pounded us with the Creepers, the exits and body positions.. I learned more in the first day of skills camp then I I have since I got my license. He also has the fury team that supports him so.. they jump with us.. we get split up.. its been amazing.. I went again yesterday.. we finaly nailed some of the stuff.. where it was a lot of work at first.. We had such a good time when it all came together.. the frustration of learning something new turned into joy.. Anyway.. wanted to thank all of you involved for taking the time to mold us new guys so that when your to old to compete and nobody wants to jump with you anymore.. We'll feel bounded by guilt..Lol.. Seriously though.. Cant wait until next week.. It feels good to feel progress.. thanks MJ and team fury.. oh .. and Lew..thanks for the vid of our funneled exit.. ) If your new or even if you think you know what your doing.. Be opened minded and check it out. I’ve seen people be surprised by less. Mark
  4. I Jumped all weekend and other than the normal stretching and very very minor discomfort on the creepers.. it was fine.. I saw my Dr this morning.. I told him I skydive every weekend and if I should change anything.. He said.. don’t worry about it for now.. just keep living they way you have.. and then he sent me to the surgeon.. I see him wed.. he was basically saying that I needed to get my jumps out of the way for now to allow for healing.. Cant jump until the pain is gone completely.. (after the surgery
  5. This is all very good, but keep in mind your limited overall experience. Pay attention to any of the competition swoopers at Perris. When they train, they'll do 15 jumps per day (at least), thats half of your total experience. Don't get me wrong, it's great that your record looks good, and you're making solid progress, but keep in mind the low overall jump numbers when you look to your record for an idea of your skill level. your absolutely right.. I know its 99% .. and its the 1% that I have to watch out for.. Im not going to get above my head.. Which means I'll stay on the 188 for now. Like I said .. Im having a blast and I like the way my legs work right now
  6. Ive been able to do everything but the HP double riser landings and landing on a hill(we dont have any) I have not got any instruction on how to make those low maneuvers yet.. so I was not going to experiment them on my own.. Im enrolling in the canopy class out in Perris.. Im not in a rush at all to downsize as Im having a blast on the 188 now.. I was just curious about some of the differences. I have not felt the twitchy feelings that people have talked about as Im pretty comfortable on this canopy... the post was for information .. not permission to downsize..lol Im cool with the 188 and taking the classes before I go down anymore.. Thanks to all who replied
  7. that makes it a lot less grim.. I thought I would be down for the winter.. thanks for the info even thought I dont know what kind mine is.. Its possible that I may have the same recovery as you.. I have heard some horror stories.. thanks again
  8. Im glad you replied.. this is the answer I was looking for.. what I want to learn is to be a little more aggresive.. when landing with more advanced flyers .. I dont want to congest the landing area.. but I have not been taught how to turn and land yet.. Dont want to sacrifice my legs trying to figure it out on my own.. Im not in a hurry and am really cool with the 190.. I was just putting it out there.. I have been jumping the pilot 188 and its a really poplular size and canopy.. I dont like the sabre 2 .. the motivation to my question was.. if the 188's were gone.. could I go to the smaller pilot. I would jump a 7 cell spectre before I jumped the sabre2 again.. it might be the way this one is set up..but i prefer the pilot
  9. Im on a 1:1 now .. how much difference is that to a 1.1: 1 if Im not typing it right.. a 190 to a 170? is it a huge difference? I felt a difference from 210 to 190 but not alot. I want to start a canopy class but wanted to get on a canopy that would be closer to what I'll stay on for a while. right now Im standing every landing Cross wind/no wind.. I can make flat turns and have been able to land pretty much where I want to except for a windy day.. I undershot a little.. My landings are all pattern landings.. nothing aggressive.. I know.. (talk to my instructor) just want to know your experience.. so far the place that I rent gear from and all the instructors have been paying pretty close attention and have had no problems droping my canopy size.
  10. I dont know what kind.. Im going to my Dr monday. I went to get my FAA medical exam and he noticed it. for the most part it has not hurt me.. I felt a little during sex but other than that.. Not really a big deal..(as far as pain in concerned) The FAA dr said it will never get better only worse.. If I deal with it now it will be less of an impact as if it rips any further on its own. So the bottom line is .. I have know idea what kind it is... Im going to jump this weekend and see my dr monday.. I guess if I have to get it done.. Winter is the time to do it..
  11. thank you.. its pretty much like that.. I think Im going to lock this thread before someone comes in and says different
  12. So I went to get my FAA Medical.. All was well until I told them that I had Lasik surgery. No big deal.. He gave me some paper work to have my Dr. fill out and I’ll be on my way.. But he also let me know that I have a hernia! Not what I was expecting to hear. I have been skydiving pretty much every weekend since I started. It never really hurt.. I just thought it was part of getting old... Have any of you ever jumped with one? Im going to get the sugery but want to get as many jumps in before as the recovery time could be a while. anyone have any experience in this?
  13. try not to get strung out on the negative and don’t hesitate to ask anything.. when it all boils down its your responsibility to gather enough info to make an educated decision... Part of some of the education I get around here is what I don’t want to be like when I grow up in skydiving.. and more times then not you will find old timers/experienced jumpers giving it back to us newbie’s.. Have fun and good luck with your new rig
  14. What I would take away from the posts is.. Talk to your instructor.. I'll tell you what I did.. If you think about it.. Every rig you jump is a new rig (to you).. Your school probably has you opening at 5k. My first solo's until my comfort level went up I stayed with 5k. Gave me time to get to my decision altitude at that time was (2500) Also it gave me time to experiment with the canopy. I have been downsizing and renting gear. So my first jump of the day is always at 5k just to make sure everything is good.. Then I drop it down to Wave off at 4-4500 and in the saddle by 3500-3000.. This gives me about 1200' to decide if my canopy is safe to land.. and that’s the minimum.. I personally like to stay a little conservative and when jumping with other people I break off at 5k, and wave and pull at 4k.. Most experienced jumpers like to wave off at 4k .. Everyone's comfort level is different.. You have to find yours.. it cant hurt to be conservative. good luck and don’t quit .. just keep asking questions..
  15. Ive talked , jumped and been in the tunnel with Christy.. she's a blast.. she's a really good teacher.. I'll hit the tunnel with her again soon. I’ve seen some posts where they say its not important to look behind you.. I have very little experience.. but I can tell you by tucking my head.. I tracked really flat, fast and far and was able to see my alti. (tracked much better than someone with many more jumps) Before I started my track I took a really good look in the direction that I was going.. I’m not sure how important it is to see the people behind me.. but it forces good body position and it cant hurt to guarantee separation by site
  16. the job market is great out here.. Come on out!.. the weather was 65 and sunny this weekend It was MJ
  17. ??? Can you elaborate In AFF they showed me how to track/break away.. They said to do it for 4-6 seconds, slow down, clear and pull.. Skills camp.. He showed me how to tuck my head so that I could look under me, between my legs and see the other person breaking away in the other direction. Also I never thought to check my Alti during tracking .. but my hand was right there.. so .. why not look.. with my head down, toes pointed, hands below my body I tracked flatter and could easily see my alti.. Did they show you all this in AFF? was I sleeping during that part of class..lol
  18. I have both health and life insurance. Just make sure you have all that in place before starting your skydiving adventures. I have them too..got it long before I started skydiving.. I dont remember them asking me if I skydive.. In general.. (with out going back and reading my contract).. would I still be coverd? Everyone trys to tell me that they dont cover skydiving..
  19. See when I was a packer I woudl do that for some of my camera people who tipped me nicely Cheers I tip very well and never had anyone meet me with refreashments
  20. A huge landing area full of foam to practice more aggessive landings
  21. I did a skills camp this weekend.. It was very cool.. We started out with a tracking dive.. When I think about it now .. it sounds like normal.. but when I learned to track in AFF.. They never mentioned looking between my legs at the other skydivers, or checking my altimeter during track..This was very cool Then we worked on some exits. I never realized when jumping with someone else how much easier the exit is when the inside guy drops down instead of jumping up and out. Then I learned Mantis and how to adjust fall rate in this position.. it was so much easier than Box.. It was like holding a ball to push air and just as easy..to move my hands towards my chest for a second and I droped like a rock.. then we moved onto leg turns (center point) When in AFF they talk about leg turns.. I though I had it down but could never figure out why when I did it.. I would move away from the center..LOL this weekend I learned to do it with my knees. It was amazing.. So now Im doing better exits, better tracking, Mantis, better fall rate and leg turns.. I cant wait to get back and try all this some more.. I’m going to add a couple more new tasks and then take them in the tunnel where I can hone them. Any one else do a skills camp of any type? BTW. Did I mention this is all free? These people are giving back to the sport.. How cool is that.. I cant wait to do that one day
  22. LMAO.. all those are absolutely right.. I have found myself in the "reaching for grips", and "break your fall" mode.. It was because of this board that I remember not to reach to break my fall.. It was on the slippery grass, first thing in the morning first jump.. I slid it in with both hands up.. Not sure how I rememberd it.. must have read it hear a bunch of times.. and the reaching for grips.. now that I have my license.. I have been jumping with LO's and other's .. the last time out.. I finally started to let my legs do more of the work... cant wait to try it again.. even though I did it in AFF .. its different now .. its like learning it over again..
  23. for sure.. I tried for X # of jumps while I was in solo stages.. my last jump was one of my requied RW jumps.. I did it and regreted it... not because I failed... (you cant).. but because I was so tired I didnt get my best out of it or the instruction.. but.. Now I know when not to jump anymore.. its when I get to that point.. its just not worth being that tired over.. Getting sloppy while skydiving can be deadly
  24. I did 3 in one day out of perris.. it was pushing it.. As a new skydiver.. its a lot of info and like the post before.. the debrief after the skydive is very important.. On one day.. I did wind tunnel in the morning and 3 jumps that day.... If you call the school and schedule it with them.. Im sure they will be able to accomodate you..
