  1. Who is impaired enough by 1 or 2 beers to ride tandem? I'd draw the line at 2 in one hour, but that just doesn't make much sense. The human body metabolizes the equivelent of 1 beer per hour. For the one in control, I would say they shouldn't have any. But, 1 or 2 for a tandem passenger, C'mon. That just calmes the nerves enough to strip them of their money. Leave it to the discresion of the tandem master. Noone can possibly measure the amount of impairdness in an individual anyway, it's a hopeless cause. Alcohol is not the only thing that impairs BTW, what about: caffeine, nicotine, dehydration, malnutrition, altitude, hormones, meds, should I go on??? I've hear of people pass out due to dehydration at altitude, much worse than 1 or 2 beers on a tandem, SORRY!!!
  2. Anyone know where the flush valve is on a '95 Yamaha WaveVenture 700? I think I know where it is but it seems to be a different fitting than the flush kit on my '95 Waveraider. i put it on the waverunner forum but i figured i'd see if anyone here could help. thanks
  3. Luke wasn't a Jedi either at that point. Hmmmm. But in Episode 6, when Luke told Leia that they were siblings, he also told her that she had special powers, being the son of Annakin and all.
  4. I guess our definitions of device dependency differ. So would you consider a reserve to be device dependency? It sounds like you are, because EP's require a device (your reserve). If you pack correctly, maintain your equipment and always open in good body position, I can't think of any reason your main would not open correctly. If I'm wrong, please don't just call me a newbie, give me an example. How can equipment "IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER" fail, if there is NO human error involved? BTW, I'm not taking sides or criticizing, just playing devil's advocate here. We can take this "device dependancy" thing right down to the sneakers you are wearing. Maybe we should wear lanyards on our shoes, just in case.
  5. Initially I read this question and couldn’t believe what I was reading, I mean are you kidding? We are landing parachutes (hopefully) and you can’t see how someone can break their femur?*** Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like such an idiot. I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but you're the only one that didn't answer my question. Femuring is a term widely referred to in skydiving, and when we land, knees together, knees bent, I don't see much pressure applied to the femur. That's why I couldn't picture it. Lawrocket answered my question, landing on the knee or landing with the knee locked, I could see how that could happen.
  6. There's 3 races, white, black and asian. That's it, everything else is a derivative. Ethnicity is a different story. That is based on culture and a common ancestry. That's why I'm utterly confused by the term African American. There's probably over 30 countries in Africa, each with it's own culture and ethnic background. Why would anyone want to be lumped into a Continent. I'd rather be Kenyan-American than African American. Gotsta have pride in your own country. Latino, to me means nothing except that you probably speak Spanish. Enough about the logistics, there are definitely hotties in all races, cultures and ethnicities.
  7. OK, I've heard a lot about breaking femurs in skydiving. I can't picture what action causes the femur to break. What is the most common impact point/direction that causes this? Sorry to ask such a stupid/gruesome question, I just can't picture how it happens.
  8. Remember, skydiving is a luxury for newbies. Although business has been good lately, it is likely to take a nose dive, real soon. People's houses have doubled in value over the past 4 years. Interest rates have been at an all time low. I'm sure many have refinanced and taken out all the equity they can. That's why you see so many $40,000 cars on the road. Well my friend, rates are going up and property value is now going down. Reality is setting in. People are going to be broke real soon. I don't think you'll make much money in 2 or 3 years from now as a TI. Just my $.02. Also, I'm 32 and have been going back to school part time and I have a wife and 3 kids. It's going to take me 4 years now to finish up my B.S. degree and I already have an A.S. under my belt since I was 21. It kills me to sit in class instead of being at the dinner table with my kids. Get it over with. 2 years aint shit!!!
  9. In Reply To -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most expensive bit of gear you have lost? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i know someone who lost a testicle. _ Was that due to a nut-under malfunction?
  10. My point exactly, thanks. However, I don't think drinking 6 beers in a 24 hour period, then driving warrants losing your license. But driving with impairments that inhibit people from driving correctly would warrant a revocation. My point was that we need to abide by the Law, AND use good judgement. You shouldn't do anything just 'cause it's legal. Like throw babies out of planes. The worst part of this, from Inzite's post is that the "Parents" wanted their kid to be the youngest skydiver. We don't even know if the kid wanted to skydive.
  11. I'm sorry, now that I reread my post, that was a bit harsh. And yes, I have 3 kids (11, 5,3) which is probably what promped me to be a bit uneasy with a parents decision to allow this. I'm very protective of my babies and couldn't fathom allowing my 11 year old to do this. Let me rephrase my initial post. If the 11 year old snuck out of the house and went skydiving without parents permission, I feel terrible for the parents. If the parents signed waivers to specifically put their child in harms way, I would not feel bad for them. I think that sounds better.
  12. I never said I would drive, just making a point that government puts limits on things I guess to keep us safe. So we obey them mostly because we don't want to get punished. .05 is the legal alcohol limit. However if the government made it .2, people would drive up to that limit. Because the individual thinks it's safe, NO, because the government says it's OK. If it's OK to let 11 year olds do solo skydives according to law, people are more likely to push their natural feelings aside and go with the flow. By the way, aren't we all just statistics waiting to happen?
  13. It all boils down to this whether we like it or not. What is the law in that country? Morals are personal to some extent as well as government driven. Governments fuck up our mind. Example, I'd feel comfortable driving after 5 or 6 beers, and I guarantee you that I'm more safe than that old timer who just parked in the handicapped space that takes 10 minutes to get out of the car with their glazed glaucoma eyes and two canes. My reaction time would be 100 times better. But since our government doesn't care about old people (probably for social security reasons) and they just like putting regular people away (probably to make money in legal fees), we have no choice. Our morals are overridden. Most people tend to follow the law, that being said, if the kid was 11 years old and it was legal for him to do that jump, the parents were brainwashed and should not be locked up. However, in my opinion, I hope the parents are suffering dearly for not being smart enough to realize the risks. A tandem might have been a better choice.
  14. Don't you think morons would be offended then? If you want people to be politically correct, you should be as well.
  15. Do you think the difference between this material will be that much more significant than the difference between F111 and ZeroP? I'm not even sure you could say ZP opens harder than F111 or causes more opening shock deaths due to the canopy fabric? Or does it? I don't know, just trying to put it into a perspective.
