  2. The logical end-point of that discussion would land this thread in Speakers Corner. Just sayin'. See the whole board.
  3. Actually, Tamerlan ran out of ammo and got gang tackled by police who had gotten handcuffs on him while holding him down on the street when the younger brother hit the gas and headed straight for them. The officers dived out of the way and Tamerlan got run over, not only that, but also dragged for a block. That was the second story to be told. The other one was the first version. The two versions are widely divergent. The second one allows the govt to charge T-2 with T-1's murder. Just sayin'. Actually, I heard a doctor who examined the deceased stating that there was a massive injury across the chest which was not a gunshot. This made no sense until I later read the story about him being run over. Well the "first version" was that T-1 went down from police fire, after which T-2, driving to escape, backed-over T-1's body; and an attending ER doc said it was "inconclusive" which wounds/injuries were the fatal ones. It was the "second version" that has the cops tackling a very much alive T-1, then T-2 trying to run them down, but only running over T-1 in the process. The second version seems at least somewhat more conducive to yet an additional murder charge against T-2. FWIW.
  4. (a) One person's choice of words, still well early on in the investigation. (b) What you extrapolate form that is still totally speculative. At least.. so far.
  5. Correct, and agreed, on all points (of which there are several).
  6. As long as he's not an unstable, gun-toting sock puppeteer with an angry chip on his shoulder who wants to find me and blow my brains out, I don't really care what he does.
  7. Oh, that wasn't genuinely directed at you. I chose to mock the nanothermite crowd by imitating one of them. As long as it amuses ME, it's all good.
  8. Good morning all! Rise and shine! http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/04/22/us-usa-shooting-washington-idUSBRE93L0FV20130422 Five dead after shooting at apartment in Seattle suburb

  11. Georgia? Don't mention "critter", either, or you'll be shunted off to the "possum hunting" category. (p.s, most people there are "pro".)
  12. Have you seen "her" ID. Got "her" prints? "Her" retina scan? You haven't, have you?
  13. It is a blessing then that SC provides you with an outlet for that basic intellectual drive. Yup, and DZ.com gets me a lot more money, a company car, a Title Honorific, and I can take my work wherever I go. Not a bad deal, in all.
  14. Yep, and now her Congressman can go on record: " I am opposed to unemployment!" Attaboy, Sir. Many elected officials are lawyers... can't trust a one of them! Oh you can trust 'em...to BE a lawyer! http://thumbnails.illustrationsource.com/huge.101.505674.JPG

  16. Getting off thread here, but no. He'd be an isolationist (America First) and similar to the people today who say America should just hole up and look after itself. Nope, he'd have been a Nazi in all but formal title. Winsor and I recently discussed it Here.
  17. You obviously haven't visited the DB Cooper thread! Those people are touched in the head... reading that is like torture even the nazi's couldn't come up with. Reading it twice means you're one of them.
  18. ...any more. He was born with a B license.
  19. And just because somebody has something posted to Facebook, doesn't mean he's going to act on it. Even if he does act on it, it doesn't mean he's part of a larger organized group. Depends on who he is. Had, say, Charles Lindbergh been able to post his speeches in the 1930s in Facebook... yeah, he'd-a been a Nazi.
  20. Yes, that's pretty much the way it is every place I've ever worked with (several states/cities) Correct. Clients, on first interview, sometimes tell me, "..and they never read me my rights!! " ..to which I ask, "Did they question you? Did you make a statement? Did you confess to anything?" "Uh.. no." "Then it doesn't make any difference" " But I thought..." ...and here's why they thought it:
  21. When it comes to things like medicine (or law, etc.), personal-experience anecdotes by non-experts are what they are, but they really only have limited value. What may have worked out fine for one patient may not for another. If you really want a proper opinion that conveys value, ask YOUR OB/GYN, who knows you, your body, your pregnancy and your medical condition first-hand, what kind of physical & athletic you should or should not engage in, and when. Nothing else really adequately substitutes for that. Sorry to be a poop.
  22. Having worked in government, I'm familiar with the way Senators' and Congressmens' staffs handle constituent issue mail. Most of the time, they get massive quantities of such mail (which has expanded about thirty-fold since the advent of e-mail and websites), and they only have limited staff resources to deal with it all. Much as it would be nice if they could, they simply cannot tailor-draft a personalized response to every individual piece of mail. So, they generally use such mail as a sort of issue poll, sorting the mail into broad "pro" and "con" categories. They have form letters pre-drafted; the "pro" letters get Response A, the "con" letters get Response B, and the nut-job mail (there's lots of that, too) gets forwarded to the Capitol Police or the FBI. They're not really being assholes; they're just dealing with the volume as best as they can. But in the meantime, at the very least, the individual constituent's pro or con vote is recorded and tallied; and that tally does sometimes influence they way the legislator comes down (or whether he proactively takes action) on the issue addressed in the letter. So take heart - your letter may very well have more long-term influence than you realize. ETA: One more thing - every Congressperson has at least one, sometimes more than one, field office, usually staffed part-time, in his/her home district. ("Constituent services" at the local level is a vital part of what they do.) That means your Congressperson has a physical office fairly near where you live. Call them, find out when they have office hours, and visit there personally and tell them how you feel. People do it all the time; you should, too.
