  1. I am definitely going to be talking to a doc soon but 1. 2. and 3. pretty much describe me to a T ... I don't know if that means anything or not but we shall see ... Thanks for the replies they have answered quite a bit for me .. I had talked to a few people that said there was a night and day difference in there performance pre and post ritalin. Believe me I would rather not medicate myself but if it would help me learn to focus and then I could wean myself off of it maybe that would be good as well. thanks guys
  2. hey all, I was just curious if anyone had had experience with either knowing someone or taking Ritalin, or anything for ADD, themselves and if it helped? I seem to have alot of trouble focusing on coding at work now when I am doing something like reading or something I can get lost and not look up for 8 hours but at work the slightest thing can totally throw me off and it takes a few minutes to actually get back to the flow. So I was just wondering if anyone on here has taken Ritalin and what affects it had as in did it help? Thanks Only skydivers know why the birds sing! Jim
  3. Hell yeah that would be something to see ... it would also be great if those 14 senators in the middle could grow to a much larger percentage of the senate as well but I won't be holding my breath on that one
  4. wow I have been pretty depressed about the state of our government for a long while now but the fact that some Senators have actually moderated their views based on the fact that they lost votes and had narrow victories as incumbants gives me hope that our leaders MAY actually start listening to their consituents imagine that hey next thing you know they will actually be voting for what we say WE want and not what THEY think we need ... thought it was getting colder around here gonna have to reserve my igloo in hell now Only skydivers know why the birds sing! 5. absolutely shoot the kid in the head he is gonna be nothing but a drag on society for the rest of his life ... I would think twice being given a chance to change is enough, time to end a miserable life before he has a chance to affect anyone else's life. Only skydivers know why the birds sing! Jim
  6. I am still very new but I am hoping this attitude is only prevalent at the really large DZs as one of the things I am enjoying so far is the comradarie at my DZ Hopefully there is a way to halt the progression toward this kind of attitude. Only skydivers know why the birds sing! Jim
  7. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience man. I went on my 2nd tandem as well this past weekend. I would have to agree with some of the others that said don't let one bad day ruin it for you. It does seem like this sport is gonna take alot of time though :) After my jump in the morning I hung around and learned to pack chutes all day which was great maybe that would relieve some of the boredom on those inevitable rainy days Good luck man hope it goes better the next time Edited to add to me, granted I only have 2 jumps skydiving seems to be about alot more than just jumping out of planes the vibe I get is one of companionship . 8. I went for my second tandem in the tandem progression this past weekend 21st. I loved it focused on awareness and I think 90% of the time I was looking at that altimiter lol. Was great fun and then hung out after the jump at 9am until around 630PM the people in this sport just seem to be great. The guy packing chutes for the DZ was really cool actually started showing me how to pack chutes which was great. I can't wait to go again! Thanks guys. Can't wait to get out of that Tandem rig as well Only skydivers know why the birds sing! Jim

  10. I guess you can only hope that the people of Wisconsin won't reelect him and maybe this bill will die with his ousting well as long as it doesn't get passed this year Take a look at him he has that 60 year ago look doesn't he? http://www.house.gov/sensenbrenner/ Only skydivers know why the birds sing! 11. yeah I was wondering the same thing forcing someone on the threat of 2 years in prison to put their life at risk wearing a tap to help bust a drug dealer sounds pretty damn unconstitutional to me. Only skydivers know why the birds sing! Jim
  12. The bill is Defending America's Most Vulnerable: Safe Access to Drug Treatment and Child Protection Act of 2005 and it was proposed by Congressman Sensenbrenner if you want to read the whole thing http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:H.R.1528: The really bad thing about the bill is the part about reporting. If you “witness” certain drug offenses taking place or “learn” that they took place you would have to report the offense to law enforcement within 24 hours and provide “full assistance” in the investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the people involved. Failure to do so would be a crime punishable by a mandatory two year prison sentence. This guy put this foward last year and it didn't pass so I don't think it will pass this year but its just disturbing something like this could even be considered. So I was curious does being required to wear a wire while maybe visiting a relative bother anyone else? and how could ANY congressman vote for something like this? 13. umm ... please tell me you don't think flying those planes into the WTC was justified?! Only skydivers know why the birds sing! Jim
  14. agreed it will save them alot of money for treatments and such. Hell I will most likely quit if our gov here in LA gets her sin tax passed which would increase the price per pack another 1$ which would be a good thing for me
  15. excuse me but who pissed in your cheerios this morning? Read my post again man I actually agreed that you have the right NOT to inhale my smoke. What I said is that it is a slippery slope when you start asking the government to do things for you. My statement about the ban was actually in reference to the fact that they are trying to stop people from smoking in the first place. I may have went a little off topic but what I said shouldn't have been hard to follow. Man you really have some serious anger issues but that seems to be the modus operandi of some people just become violent and loud to get your point across, yeah that'll fix em. The idea of taking it in to your own hands was in regards to non-smokers not going to some establishments and requesting that owners ban smoking or lose the patronage of non-smokers. This would be taking it into your own hands not running around assaulting people. really man calm down its just a discussion not some personal vendetta. Only skydivers know why the birds sing! Jim
  16. Its a mistake for people to continously ask for the government to step and make new laws for everything that inconviences them in the slightest. Granted as a non-smoker people should have the right to not breathe secondhand smoke but the problem with this is that it doesn't stop there because instead of just saying lets not allow smokers to smoke in public there is also a movement to FORCE everyone to quit smoking by increasing taxes to outrageous levels. It is outrageous that out of the 4$ you pay for a pack only about 1.50$ is actually for the cigarettes. Basically this is a prohibition on cigarettes just an economic one rather than a ban in its purest form. What happens when people decide that skydiving or riding motorcycles or eating steak is bad for your health? We are setting the precedent by allowing things like this to happen (using taxes as a deterrent) because it is something that affects someone else(i.e. smokers) but what about when it does affect you? I understand that yes it does increase the amount of people that have to be treated for diseases and such but that is not the real reason for the constant increases in "SIN Taxes". Once again I agree a non-smoker should not have to breathe my secondhand smoke but its a really big mistake to encourage our government to make it happen rather than forcing it to happen on our own. 17. Thanks for all the responses guys, I really like the vibe. oh yeah its definitely gonna be hitting the pocketbook decided instead of the TV I am gonna spend it on getting those first 8 Assisted jumps out of the way so I can start working toward A liscense.
  18. Well I was planning on going tandem to AFF but I am gonna ask if I can just go straight to AFF instead of doing anymore tandems. Its kind of nutz I can't stop thinking about doing it again so I figure that would be more fun than going the tandem to AFF route. Only skydivers know why the birds sing! Jim
  19. Hey all, I loved the experience and plan to do it as often as I can. I did have a question, I went Tandem for my first jump and for the last 2 days I have been EXTREMELY sore in between my shoulder blades on my back, I was wondering if anyone had heard of this before and what kind of exercises I would need to do to prevent this or was it that I may have been too tense while in freefall and therefore put undue stress on my upper back? It feels like it is just muscle soreness. Oh and I was also curious do you ever get used to the leg straps while under the canopy? Thanks for any answers, Only skydivers know why the birds sing! Jim
