  1. So I finally got a signature on all the lines on that yellow card
  2. well stated - give me a nice 18 yr old Glen Morangie and a cigar and I will shut up and stay out of the way for hours. e
  3. what no scotch drinkers????? I have to say beer is my mainstay - anchor steam if we want to get specific. Grand Marnier(sp?) delicious but a nice neat single malt scotch is heaven. e
  4. guess uspa forgot to tell the folks out at our DZ that an oral test was required - shhhhh let's keep this a secret e
  5. If you are using the little yellow card with all the requirements there is no longer a test for the A license. All the stuff they make you get signed off on that card now substitutes for the test. I think USPA is calling it the "Integrated Student Program". Once your card is filled in and all signed, faxed and you pay USPA, you've got your license. e
  6. i thought it was ALWAYS 4:20 e
  7. So far just a King Air, but as soon as I get that A license and can jump other places there's plenty of other planes out there waiting for me e
  8. I am not sure how the width of the leg straps compare to other rigs, or the Infinity specifically, but the position of the leg straos ibn the wings is slightly different than most(all?) rigs. They do not ride up as high on your inner thigh and create more of seat. I haven't gotten to jump one yet, but when I tried on a couple around the DZ they were definetely the most comfortable of the rigs I tried on. The articulated rings make a huge difference too. e
  9. Yeah - it boosted my confidence greatly when after I totally screwed up our exit on my level 3 and sent myself and both JMs into a double flip before we got stable and then on the ground one of my JMs with over 6000 jumps told me about how horrible a student he was and how on 2 occassions he flat out refused to jump and rode the plane back down. e
  10. working - i thought you had become a permanent DZ resident e
  11. Hey - I'm a reverend with the Universal Life Chrurch, so if you ever need a helping hand down there with your wedding gig give me shout - or perhaps if things go well we could open a franchise up here in Byron e
  12. ***Wings was the unofficial rig of the DZ.{/quote] It's actually in the process of becoming the official DZ rig at Byron. All Student and rental gear is being swapped out from Vector to Wings and all staff are buying them too - granted at VERY good staff discounts. So does this mean that it is a great rig or could this be that one of the staff members is a company rep and personal friend of the owner of Sunrise Rigging? No seriously, I think they are well constructed and great all around rigs, everyone at our DZ who has one swears by it. It is the most comfy rig I have ever tried on. When I am ready to buy new gear that's the first container I would think of. e
  13. Where to start???? For me skydiving is an addition to many other things that let me feel alive and keep me occupied. I know this borders on blasphemy here but... Climbing, both rock and mountaineering, is probably my #1 pursuit. During the winter I ski as much as possible and would probably have to place that as my #2. I used to fly airplanes, but the $$ output for the return just wasn't happening for me and is one of the reasons I got involved in skydiving instead. On the quieter side, I work with Bonsai trees, do photography and dabble with ceramics. e
  14. hmmmm weapons, plane, diving gear, parachute rigs, halo gear, free travel, 50K a month, work only 26 weeks a year? What exactly do you and how do I sign up? Retire? I guess it depends on how much you like your job but I would probably say hell ya. e
  15. hey your other option is to come up to Berkeley and jump with me in Byron for the weekend and see Gene in the evenings - or get him to come out to the DZ and do the AFF course. I will be buying beer Saturday to christen my new rig if that's any temptation. e
  16. Hey Darrell the winds cam down around 11am and held until about 3pm - I got 2 jumps in. One solo and then a coach jump where we worked on varying fall rate and docks. We had 3 of us wanting to do a hop-n-pop, but they didn't have a cessna pilot so that was out. I think I am going to try and get there Friday and do it then. So let's jump together next weekend e
  17. keep some of your whuffo friends around because you have to have something to do on those windy days, especially out at Byron, cause wind seems to be the norm rather than the exception. e
  18. Yeah I know what you mean - that's why I have been putting it off to, but from what i am hearing getting stable from a Cessna (don't know if that's what you use for your h-n-p or not) is a lot easier than a lot of other planes - so if I can get them to put the Cessna up this weekend then what the hell it's time to do it e
  19. hey if you get that weekend packing class together and I have some advance notice (a week woudl be good), I'll come down for the weekend. can you tent it out there @ Perris, or do I need to figure out other accomodations? e
  20. well the story on rentals at Byron is pretty sad I must say and there are no demos on hand. Bonnie who runs the proshop there (www.gravitygear.com) can arrange for demos though so you may want to get in touch with her. as to the arranging of your trip out to Byron, Diane and Gene and Amanda were suppossed to have gone like a year ago for Amanda's B'day, but it neer happened until then. I found the place, Diane did all the organizing and Gene was in charge of hearding everyone together. I'm glad to be a part of it and look forward to meeting up with you in sky and drinking beer when the light comes on. Hey do they teach packing classes on the weekends down there? At Byron it's only during the week and since I can't get time off right now that's holding me up from getting my license. e
  21. Yeah - it's Friday - just a few more hours of tapping at the keyboard and reading about jumping, and wondering if my rigger got my reserve repacked so I can jump my new rig and then off to the DZ WHOOOHOOO Now I have to convince them to put the Cessna up tomorrow so I can do my Hop-n-Pop and check one more thing off my license card. and oh how the next few hours are going to be hell ok nuf ramblings back to pretending to work or something like that e ps - anyone have a good recommendation of a DZ that will do a packing class on the weekend either in No. Cal. or So. Cal? My DZ oly does them on weekdays and I can't get a week day off for a while
  22. Sounds like everyone in No. Cal jumps a Byron, so we'll just have to all hook up for the Byrton Boogie - Sept 28-30 see ya there e
  23. hey clubber whoo-hooo the addiction is spreading;) yeah its the same Eric - glad to hear you went for the AFF and congrats on finishing it up. I finished my AFF July 4th. It took me another 2 weeks from when I met you to get my level one jump done, but then banged the rest out fast while the winds held. I'm still using up all the free jump tickets I got from when you guys did your tandems - thanks:) You should think about coming up here at the end of September for the Byron Boogie and we can jump together, or I may have to make a trip down there once I get my A license which should be in the next week or two. I just have to do my Hop-n-Pop and learn to pack. Now you just have to convince Nick and Gene to take the AFF course. Diane is planning on doing when she gets to New Zealand in Feb/March. we'll jump together soon e
  24. Can;t help you with the wedding dress question, but forget about the justice of peace - just have one of your friends get ordained through the Universal Life Church online at: http://www.ulc.org/ it's legit and legally binding, I know a couple people who have gone this route to get married in less than conventional ceremonies. e
  25. tel me about it - it took me over a month and half from doing my ground school to getting to do my level 1 jump and I was out at the DZ sat & sun every weekend. when the winds finally came down I did all 8 jumps in two days and haven't stopped since - well except for the wind that is. I've started to teach peple out there to climb so that on the really bad days when noone can jump we head out to Mt. Diablo and climb instead - but always make it back to the dz for beer light;) e
