    Misc BS

yeah - that's how to do it - get them started young. I guess with skydiving the wait has got to be hard - how old do they have to be to jump? I do a lot of climbing too, and it's great when you see the parents out there with their 4-5 year olds who can just scramble up anything with no fear, or concept of consequences. Of course now all the best climbers are under 18 - go figure. e
  2. Hey it's eric paulson - short(shaved) light brown hair and short scruffy beard. I just bought a rig sunday if that rings any bells I know there's 2 Darrells out at Byron, both of whom I've met, but don't know which one you are. e
  3. So is anyone here up in the SF Bay Area? It seems there's a lot of people down south and a lot in the midwest and back east, but I don't see to many people from up here. Anyways if you're out there give a shout and let me know where you jump. I should have my A license soon and that will open me up to getting out to other DZs up here and distributing my beer debts at new places to new faces e PS - I jump out at Byron

  8. Yeah being the last one out of the plane on your first solo is HARD - I went through the exact same thing on mine a couple of weeks ago. Nothing keeping you from just sitting down and riding the plane back to ground - except that if you've seen the way those pilots get back to the runway, you might think freefall is the safer option;) congrats on your first solo and getting past the door demons unassisted. e

    ugh

yeah - i now getting out the door is hell - but so is fear - so this next part may be a bit cheesy and what not but bear with me - as kid i read Dune, by Frank Herbert, and fell n love with and adopted a little mantra from it which i repeat for myself to clear my head, whether the fear be from a test, out climbing or getting out the goddamn door of that plane: "I will not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone I will turn to see fear's path. Where it has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain" so that's how i see it, and that's what it's all about - being you and not being your fear. e
  10. yeah everyone at the DZ is hoping the winds cooperate too cause the rule is i don't owe beer 'till i get to jump it. e
  11. Hi all I have been mostly lurking about and soaking up everyone else's conversations and learning what's up around here. I just finished my AFF a couple weeks ago - 2 months of waiting for the winds, 2 days of jumping and then - BOOM - i'm out the door all by myself:) Gotta say my first solo was the hardest part - harder than the first jump, harder thena the backloops and solo exit - it was late in the day, all the tandems were done hours ago and there were no other students, so as a solo I was to be the last one out the door. Everyone else got out in two groups and I was left on the plane all alone - noone to say it's time to go, noone waiting for me to get out so they could go, thinking there is nothing keeping me from sitting back down and riding the plane back down to planet earth, but what the hell there's the door and then I am out an in the air with my first chance to just hangout and let myself rotate in slow 360s sightseeing as I fall from 14 grand=) and then i knew i was hooked for good. so now i have taken the plung of shelling out the $ for my first rig and waiting for the weekend to come so I can jump it - hopefully - we got winded out Sunday, the day i bought it and that was the last day on the reserve pack, so i'm crossing my fingers(and hope you'll cross your fingers with me) that my rigger gets it repacked by saturday and the winds cooperate so i can jump it. thanks to everyone who responded to my post on the gear forum - re: shoudl i buy an eclipse container - and helped me make up my mind. I'm just glad to have somewhere to shout this out cause everyone else I know outside the DZ just kind of goes - "oh that's nice" when i say ibought a rig, and have no clue hat it's all about. see ya in the sky e
  12. I have just finished my AFF and I am starting to look for a rig. At my drop zone I have found 2 which are an excellent fit, and both come with a main and reserve suited to my skill level, and cypress and are both going for about $2800. Both containers are the Eclipse, and I am getting conflicting opinions about whether this is a good deal or not. On one hand I am told that the price is right and it fits well so its a good deal. On the other hand I have also been told that the manufacturer has gone out of business(I found their website, but it has not been updated for a couple years), and that I will have trouble selling it in the future when I downsize. My search of these forums and elsewhere has turned up little info on the Eclipse, but the few posts I have seen indicated that people seemed to be staying away from them. Any info which all of you can offer about the Eclipse, good or bad, as well as insights into whether this is a good choice for me would be excellent thanks eric
