  1. Thanks! I didn't know of the classifieds sections, thats a great help.
  2. Hi there, Just wondered if anyone has a complete rig for sale? I'm looking for a 170 Main, 150 - 170 reserve, Cypress 2, a small harness (will be my first rig). I've been looking for a while now and not getting anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
  3. Hello, I recently started to skydive (UK) and am looking at getting separate freefly pants and top. The problem is I have no idea where to start. I've been looking at Sonic, Matter, Lizard, Tony amongst others. Can anyone advise me on whats worth getting and from where? Is ordering on-line a good idea or is it worth visiting a store and trying some sizes out? If so, where are there places in the UK to walk in and have a look at some stuff? I' like to get into freeflying eventually, but for now I just like the idea of the freefly separate stuff for comfort. ANY help at this point would be greatly appreciated, thanks. P.S. I haven't been to the dropzone in about two weeks, due to bad weather and illness. I will ask around when I'm back up there.
  4. I'm gonna get an analog regardless of how difficulty or easy they are to read, I would rather get something that doesn't need batteries, (other than Cypres before anyone points it out). I just wanted to know if anyone has a preferred make of analog and way. Specifically between the FT-50 and Galaxy 3. I appreciate eveybodies opinions so far as well. Thanks!
  5. I was thinking of digital, but as i have only a few jumps i thought it best to get used to an analog first. I reckon i got enough things to worry about at this early stage before adding more complications lol. I appreciate the advice though, thanks!
  6. Thanks for your reply. I'm still swinging towards the FT-50 though lol. I'll ask everyone at the DZ this weekend aswell. Thanks again.
  7. Hello all, I have recently finished AFF level 7 and am now on my consol jumps. I'm starting to sort out my own gear and was wondering which altimeter to get. The Galaxy has been highly recomended to me, but it feels a little bulky. I find the FT50 sits nicely on the back on my hand and not on my wrist, plus it's smaller. Am I missing anything important when it comes to choosing an altimeter or are the analog altimeters pretty much the same, it's just down to customer service? Thanks!
  8. I'm not a meteorologist or anything, but I've been storm chasing a few times. The updrafts in a severe thunderstorm can reach well over 100mph. Updrafts of some classic and HP supercell storms have been know to spike 60,000ft, sometimes even punching through the stratosphere itself. The upper level jetstream can exceed 150mph horizontally, which blows all the hail and rain off to the front of the updraft, allowing it to continue to strengthen. If he was caught in that (30,000ft or so), he could be carried hundreds of miles, even be lifted back up into the storm by wrap around mid-level winds. I heard that story aswell, but from chases on my tour. He must have had the ride of his life. Depending on how high up in the storm he was and where abouts in the storm, supercell cores can have hail up to baseball or even grapefruit size, bashing around in there. I won't even go into the lighting that goes on in a supercell with 5000 joules of CAPE. He must have looked like a roast chicken coming out the otherside lol .

    No slider?

I apologise for asking such a stupid question and referring to a parachute as a "chute". I won't post again until I know what I'm talking about. I'm sorry!

    No slider?

Newbie that knows nothing and just interested! I just saw a base jumping vid from skydivingmovies (my_best_movie_yet) and it looked like one of the jumpers didn't have a slider on his chute. Does that make it open faster or is that a stupid question as that would cause injury and damage the chute?

    BASE game

Now I can finally get my fix, without having to watch hours of base vids.
  12. Thanks very much, thats definitely answered my question. I didn't realise it was that extensive in testing, very reassuring. Thanks again!
  13. When a new parachute is designed and tested, how do they test them? Does someone deliberately try to mal or do they just jump that chute X many times and let the chute mal itself? (If that makes sense to you, I'll get the next round lol) I know that in paragliding, they deliberetly try to stall the wing to see how it recovers, just wondered if the same process is used in skydiving? (If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you)
  14. and it looks like we have a new record, WAHOO!!
  15. (I apologize if this has already been discussed in another thread. I have just seen a double mal vid from skydiving movies unfall2. I'm VERY new to skydiving and wonder if anyone could give a reason for what happened there? What was the mal on the main? Looks like the rear riser disconnected or something? and anyone know what happened to him? his he ok? http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php
  16. Thank you for the quick response. Thats helped me understand the situation a lot more. I'm sure when I do my AFF I will receive all the instructions I need to avoid or correct a similar malfunction. Watching the video sent a nasty shiver down my spin.
  17. I plan to do the AFF course next year (UK). Every time I hear of an accident I read as much as I can to try to understand exactly what went wrong and what could have been done to prevent it. Please forgive my stupidity when I ask the following question(s). What is an unstowed toggle? Does it mean she didn't reach up and grab it? Also, is flaring with both toggles the only way to pull down a slider thats stuck? Anyone tell me what the "snap" sound was she described when using the risers?
  18. All depends on the job vacancy, if they advertised it or if you just sent your CV and covering letter on the off chance. If they advertised, I suspect they'll have a few more people to see first. Then they will need to make a decision, then they will call you back. One job interview I went to, they rung me on the day to tell me I got it (not advertised) and the other one I had recently was a larger company and left it two weeks before they rung me back to tell me I got it (advertised). Its always I good sign if the interview goes on longer than planned and/or they say "we will be in-touch, see you soon", at the end. Even if you don't get it just keep banging out the CV's. I went through the phone book and sent one off to anyone that looked even slightly involved in Music. Then you just keep a record of who you sent them to. I think it's 50 CV's sent for one reply roughly. 50:1 just for a reply regardless of whether it's an interveiw or rejection. I wouldn't worry either way. Stressing doesn't help anything. I'm sure you worrying for nothing. They'll probably ring any minute you'll see. Good luck!
  19. Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason by far. How realistic was that. She must have trained for years to do such incredible stunts. Unlike Patrick Swayze in Point Break, you could almost see the strings. What a pussy!
  20. Join the club, we got T-shirts.
  21. Thats seriously repulsive. Keep em coming dude, takes a lot to disgust me, the darker the better .
