  1. Man those are nice pics. I want to jump at Perris!
  2. Isn't this seeing things in black and white? The French situation seems more deeply rooted. Not just kids looking to have fun on any arb night. Condolences to your car, McNeill.
  3. Guys... Take a listen to the new Dandy Warhols album, "Oditorium or Warlords Of Mars". It's had shyte reviews in the mass-media, but I just can't get enuff of it. The whole album is driven by a funky undertone, that's supported by this vibey electric banjo. Keeps your spirits high... "Cause if you're doing all the best that you can But you're still runnin' just as fast as the man says Well I can tell you for the money The simple life honey is good..."
  4. Ah, the .net/java geeks clash heads on DZ.com! ;-) Not so certain that c# outdoes java on the job market outside US borders. But maybe I'm being biased. Agreed that certs, in either of the two camps, won't get you too far these days.
  5. Ah, you have a good plan then. Try get back for the Mafakeng new years boogie ;-)
  6. Bertus Hoekom bly jy nou ander kant die wereld? If you don't want to get into the whole Microsoft machine of misery, try out the Sun Certified Java Developer certification. Perhaps tough for beginners, but it should get you far. Blues, D.
  7. Java developer. Love the work. And thankfully, it pays for the hobby.
  8. 75 jumps in South Africa - though I think your prognosis would still remain accurate. It definitely makes students more aware. I have just purchased my first rig, and was surprised at how big my main had to be to keep my wing-loading at 1.0.
  9. Not sure if the same applies in the States, but PASA (Parachute Association of South Africa) has recently made it compulsory to fly a 1.0 or less wing-loading until B-Licence status. The resulting stats should be interesting.
  10. I lost alti-awareness in a heavy spin on my 7th AFF jump, fortunately a bit higher up than you. My instructor was at my side instantly, but realised my hand had beaten his to my rip-cord (on a spring-loaded pilot rig). In an instant I was shoved accross the sky so that he was nowhere near me at deployment. On de-briefing, it turns out I went into the spin 'cause I had my alti right-up in front of my face like i was blind, instead of keeping my box and just turning my head to the side. At terminal, that was more than enough to induce the spin. Glad you're okay.
  11. Can anyone recommend, or not recommend, a Vigil AAD (as opposed to a Cypress 2)? I'm going to be in the market soon, and need to know what my option are :) Thanks in advance.
  12. I will be biased as this is my home DZ. Since 1972, Citrusdal has represented a landmark to the SA skydiving community. Comparitively small in numbers, it has a host of excellent staff who are always willing to give their time to newcomers. The club's trusty Cessna 186 ensures jumpers spectacular views of both sides of the Olifantsriver Valley, and accross the Swartland to the West Coast. Weekend first-jump courses are offered for students wishing to begin static-line progession. Tandems may be booked, and experienced visitors are always welcomed. The club is famed for its Saturday evening braai's (barbeques), which take place around a communal fireplace after a hard day's jumping - and at which newbees and veterans alike discuss politics, religion, love & life - yet above all, skydiving. Weather you pitch a tent, or use one of the many inexpensive bunkhouses, you'll be sure to enjoy a relaxing weekend with likeminded beings with a passion to fly.
