  1. USN - SEALS, EOD, Aviators, some NIC. SEALS/EOD go to Ft. Benning first though and are awarded "lead wings". USN/USMC golden wings are given after five more "consolidation jumps". There has been much discussion in recent times about the Navy doing its own thing and using its own facilities even for first jumps. This is basically because in a maritime "non-USMC" environment, static line jumps are rarely made. In Grenada they were, with tragic consequences. I hope this helps.
  2. I couldn't agree more. Plus it seems to be almost a necessity with the vast number of people passing through and a large number of "no jump" days due to wind conditions...sounds like a guaranteed money maker to me.
  3. Just got back. Amazed to see this thread. Quite frankly most of you guys should go back to playing SOCOM on your PS2. There are two things that all SEALS are always taught however. 1. Be humble. 2. Never leave anybody behind. (There are about 1.000 other things but for those interested I strongly recommend www.navyseals.com. Just one word of advice: follow the rules). The Easiest Day was Yesterday.
  4. Hi. Sneaky. How are ya? More impotantly where so arts thee? Good to see you again, just wondered were "the wouded warrior" was nowadays.
  5. Really glad to hear about your AFF first 3 jumps. Who were your instructors, where did you do it, etc. Are you going on to finish AFF? It would also be interesting to know what rig you are using and whether you are using ripcord sprung pilot chute or BOC throwaway. Above all congratulations and keep on it.
  6. Ah, no.....but if you find out, let me know. I'm looking for the same thing for a couple of friends and myself....
  7. Just a quick note. Someone in the Pentagon tried to push through the idea that SEALS should wear black berets when the Teams were commissioned in 1962. Thank god , the Navy would have nothing of it and SEALs wear blue dress and white dress just like everybody else but sport the Trident which is the biggest badge in the Navy (and you sure earn it), just as Aviators and Submariners sport their badges. AND WE ALL EARN THEM AND RESPECT EACH OTHER FOR IT. Difference between the Army and the Navy? In the Army they can't get recruits. In the Navy we turn away a lot of people.
  8. Yes. My latest information is that Freefall University will not be continuing its operations at Lillo through Bogwarrior. If you want to do AFF in Spain with English speaking instuctors I reccommend you look at www.letsgoskydive.com I know these guys, 'cause they've all trained here in the States. I will be going over there in September. This is profesional and safe skydiving instruction done by the best.
  9. The safety of AFF depends on a large extent to WHO you train with and WHERE. Before you jump I seriously recommend to you that you read three books, Chris Donaldson, Tom Buchanan and Dan Poynter. The safety aspect is very well detailed in the Buchanan book. I would also recommend that you look at www.letsgoskydive.com At the end of the day, being safe depends on you. You decide whether to jump or not. I totally agree with the person who says do more tandems before AFF. 3 tandems are a good idea. If you can afford it you can even do 5. That will give you an enormous amount of self confidence, skydiving awareness and adaptation to your new medium, i.e. being airborne...FLYING!
  10. Well, Joel, since you state that Lillo is your home DZ, maybe you're not 100% objective about this. Just trying to help and give an opinion that of course can be taken into consideration or not, because Spain is still a free country, right? So people can go wherever they want and give an opinion within ethical and legal boundaries. In fact the whole idea behind the Forums is that people give their opinion. In the States we call it "Freedom of Speech". New concept, perhaps? You should try it. It results in democracy, human and civil rights and FREEDOM which is what skydiving is all about or perhaps I'm wrong?
  11. Yeah, I wouldn't do it either if I were you. That place is in the middle of nowhere, I mean Arizona looks like a built up area compared to that. Night life is zero. Constant bickering going on between instructors and staff. There ain't no train station and you have three other A1 alternatives in Spain. Ampuriabrava is tops, but it's busier than the Lincoln Memorial on the 4th July, you gotta fight your way onto a load in summer; Bollulos near Seville awesome and near THE CITY FOR FUN and then you have the www.letsgoskydive.com guys at Ocania, nearer to Madrid, better instalations and real pros. Check out their page. Next time I go over to Europe that's where I am gonna be. Hope this helped.
