  1. Sailshaw wrote Unless Cooper examined the packing cards (and this is disputed, Himmelsbach told me personally that there is no evidence that it happened), there is no way Cooper could know what canopy was inside each container. With an NB 6 or 8 it was likely to have a miltary high speed ejection canopy inside but by no means certain. The canopy is far more important than the harness and container for being able to safely deploy at high speeds. I have heard af canopies blowing up if deployed above rated speeds but harness failures are extremely rare and are usually due to preexisting unrepaired damage. According to Norman both rigs had the same military high speed canopies inside but Cooper may not have known that. Just slipping a bit of fabric out to examine it wouldn't tell you much about canopy type, size and speed rating. It would just tell you whether it was made of ripstop or twill material. Cooper did make the right choice in my opinion but without knowing more about his thought process and whether he examined the packing cards, we cant rule out the possibility that it was a random choice. I have a recent email address for Sheridan and wrote to him but he continues to ignore me. The very good news is that he got radiation treatment for his cancer and says that he is cured. He also posted on a blog that he was beaten up. By who? Why? I asked him but no response. Who would beat up a sick man in his 80s? When I sent him the cheer package through Bruce a few years ago he was very grateful and friendly but later flipped and called me FBI CIA etc. I tried to send him another cheer package during the holidays at the end of 2013, but he would not supply an address. Anyway I am very glad his health is improving. Too bad I cant have a dialog with him. I'd love to hear his opinion about Norjack and Cooper. I'd also like to know why he thinks the FBI even bothered asking a blue eyed man for a DNA sample to rule him out as Cooper? Think about it, that is quite odd. His eye color alone should have ruled him out but the FBI apparently didnt agree. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  2. Jo, You should just ignore the allegedly defamatory stuff. It was published in an obscure forum with an audience of maybe a dozen people. Instead you republish it and widen the audience. I'll bet you neither the FBI or the state bar will show any interest in pursuing your matter. They might be courteous and take a report but that's all they will do. No resources will be assigned. Count on it. Both agencies have far more important matters to investigate. You are way too easy to sidetrack. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 4. From a recent article speculating that Don Draper of Mad Men would be revealed to be DB Cooper in the new season series. I like to think that Cooper's NB 6 (or NB 8) rig choice evidenced military parachute knowledge, but I am painfully aware that it could have been a coin toss. Two chutes were available. He had to pick one. Might have been as simple as just randomly choosing one of the pair. Occam likes explanation that but I am still arguing with him. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 5. Jio wrote They won't condone it Jo. They will just ignore it. They have more pressing matters to attend to right now and for the forseeable future. Don't hold your breath waiting for the FBI to respond. Same advice goes out to your media consultant. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  6. Jo wrote Such legal drama. Threats of suits, disbarments, FBI intervention. Yawn. Where is Judge Judy when we need her? Doctor Phil could do a better job actually. Jerry Springer too. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  7. Jo wrote Jo, You are republishing alleged slander and giving it a much wider audience than it originally had on an obscure website known to only a few. Just ignore it. Taking the bait is plain foolish. As for issuing ultimatums and deadlines to the FBI you are wasting your time. They will ignore you. Guaranteed. So grow some thicker skin and carry on. You claim to only have a short time remaining. Don't squander it chasing Internet meanies. That's a complete waste of your time. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 8. Jo wrote Don't take the bait Jo. Concentrate on investigation not retaliation or response to Galen. You have more important work to do. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  9. Bruce wrote Totally fake video Bruce. No phone or camera has a glide ratio like that. It was shot by a skydiver under canopy. As for the naked Dutch girls, book a flight to Amsterdam. Some streets are lined with them. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

  11. Jo, Stop fearing a forum shutdown. As long as there are a few participants who are courteous Q keeps order with suspensions and bans. Bruce won't get it shut down. Neither will Galen. So relax. It will outlive you and maybe even me. This forum does not matter to the FBI. It's not something they care about any longer. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 12. Cool video Amazon. Never saw first jump static liners thrown from a Twin Beech. Made me nostalgic for my orange and white C-9. Damn they descend fast. No point flaring. Just man (or woman) up and impact/PLF. The instructor's mantra at the very end: ... "And always watch the horizon" was something I have always ignored. I look at the ground. I've never biffed a landing. I don't think you get nearly as much altitude info looking at the horizon as you do by looking at the ground rushing up. I take distance/altitude cues from weeds, stones, grass blades etc. Can't see them if you are gazing at the horizon. So do you think Eng will loan us a black helicopter for Bruce's first jump? We can borrow that Cossey packed rig that the museum bought from Norman. No need to complicate things with a reserve. Hell, let's do it at night over Ariel. I've got some Vicodin left over from a root canal. We will get Bruce numbed up and feeling fine. The jump will be a piece of cake. You'll have to rig the S/L Amazon. I've never been through jump master training. I'll fly the helo. Never done that but I fly RC helicopters so it shouldn't be a problem. Bring your rig just in case. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  13. Jo wrote Jo, Without producing that ticket there is no way to tell whether your memory is accurate. You may "know" that you held that Dan Cooper ticket, but a feeling does not validate a memory. I don't think you lie, but I do think you are so biased that it affects your ability to accept evidence that points away from Duane being Cooper. You only give credence to evidence that supports your hypothesis. We all fall prey to bias if we have a favorite suspect. You are not alone. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 14. Jo wrote Nope. That's not how it works Jo. You made the claim. You have the burden of proof. You haven't met it or even come close. Placing Duane in WA is not proof. Showing the FBI screwed up is not proof. Poofed tangible evidence is not proof. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  15. Jo wrote about Marla Shocking.... absolutely shocking. Lord knows what you'd say about some dropzone women Jo. If you view lust as something private then skydiving is NOT your sport. I've jumped with a plane load of naked Dutch girls. Just another day at a big boogie. The combination of the 1960s, drugs and skydiving produced some EPIC parties which I had the good fortune to attend. Can I get an "amen" Airtwardo and Guru? Marla wouldnt raise an eyebrow at my DZ with her "heavy makeup", "flaunting" and "(seductive) demeanor". If she was fully clothed she'd be at the church girl end of the spectrum. At our local DZ's annual boogie there is a deplorable tradition in which jumpers strip naked and lie down on the runway numbers at sunset. Don't know if they have caused any missed approaches. Someone really should report this criminal behavior to the FAA. Give Marla a break Jo. She had her moment as the Cooper Prom Queen. Don't take that from her. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  16. Which version would Occam prefer: 1. Al Di reverse engineered the alleged Cooper letters to newspapers and figured out the source (issue and page number) of all the text cut-outs (Playboy Magazine). 2. Al Di knew the source of the text cut-outs and didn't have to do any sleuthing at all. Just wondering. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  17. Bruce asked I think not. One wonders why Eng appeared to be such a Marla endorser originally but there are plenty of possible explanations that do not include sex. Marla gets treated pretty harshly here with a lot of "slut" innuendo eg "twisty butt" and now inferences that she may have had sex with an FBI agent who was investigating her claims. I don't think she deserves it. She is attractive but that's not grounds for character disparagement. I only saw Marla at the Portland Symposium and she wasn't "twisting" her butt or acting inappropriately with anyone I saw. I think Blevins did a good job poking holes in Marla's LD story by interviewing family members who were present for LD's Thanksgiving arrival. Blevins (AKA Venom Magnet) gets attacked all the time here, but gets little praise for doing what all the national reporters failed to do: check Marla's story about LD's disheveled injured arrival at the family home right after Norjack. He did check. Nobody would corroborate it. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  18. Any chance this kind of analysis could be helpful for the Cooper flight? 19. Marla was not even mentioned in Geoff's book. Her huge media splash made Geoff's book seem outdated, yesterday's news so to speak. Marla's book never materialized, so maybe the harm was brief and actually spawned new interest in Cooper and an eventual rise in sales for Geoff's book. Marla was a phenomena. You had to have been there. Her appearance and her spectacular claims really spiced things up. I look back on the Portland symosium with fond memories. Geoff really put on a first rate event. The mysterious (and lovely) skydiver/author Musika Farnsworth hung out in the shadows, shunning all attention. I don't know if she ever wrote about the Symposium. She did write some very good articles about the Cooper skyjack that were published in Parachutist Magazine. A fellow airplane buff sent me a copy of an article about the Symposium that appeared in some airliner hobbyist magazine. I can't recall the exact name of the mag but the article was well written. I was quoted in some local news article as saying: "The case will be solved in my lifetime. Somebody, somewhere will remember something..." I still have that optimistic outlook. I might have to live to be 100 though. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

  21. Bruce wrote Marla's appearance at the Portland Symposium and the big publicity surge that followed was bad news for Geoff's book and he knew it would be, yet he let Marla have center stage at an event he arranged and paid for. I took that as a benevolent/alruistic move by Geoff against his own self interest. The Symposium barely promoted his book and did not restrict participation by critics or opponents. How do you see it Bruce? I am still puzzled by the FBI spokeswoman's initial enthusiasm about Marla's story. Hard to explain that one. Maybe she had too much coffee before she spoke to the UK reporter. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  22. Bruce wrote So you aint buying the govt conspiracy setup explanation for Jo's car crash in FL? Bruce wrote Yup, I wouldnt let a good investigative journalist bounce, too few left. 23. Link to Sequoia High School Alumni newsletter article about Mike Steele. See page 9. My previous post just had a scan which want very clear. This link is better. http://sequoiahsalumniassoc.org/smoke_signals/spring2010/spring2010.pdf Mike and I were HS classmates. I didnt start jumping until I graduated from Sequoia High, (first jump 1968). Mike was a good guy. He didnt act like a big shot in high school even though he was a star gymnast and accomplished skydiver. What a shame he went in. At least he saved his student. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  24. Vicki wrote: Not really. I expected a smart articulate attractive person and that's what Vicki was in person. Bruce S and Robert B were pretty much as expected. No big surprises. I liked them both. Hangdiver and his lovely girlfriend Raz, ditto. Snow was quite different than I expected, none of the online hostility was detectable in person. Really great guy actually. Razor sharp and very fast mind, wish I had his IQ. Hope to meet Orange someday on her US travels. She is another dropzone brainiac. Georger is another DZ brain but I have not had a chance to meet him in person. I liked all the dropzone folks I met at the Portland Symposium. I actually got along well with Jerry T who was a perfect gentleman when disputing my belief that Cooper could have easily survived the jump. Tom, Al and Carol "Abacadabra" were really fun to hang out with and I hope I will get another chance. Carol's Dan Cooper Comic presentation was a masterpiece, super well done. Tom and Al amazed me with stories about how they maintain obsolete but very capable scanning electron microscopes that they bought dirt cheap. Jo and I have our differences but I like her a lot. We squabble at times but stop way short of nasty. I think we all look worse online than we are in person. Something about the Internet brings out the fangs in normally civilized folks. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  25. Jo wrote: You can say it all you want Jo but until you produce probative evidence its just a guess on your part. Pure speculation and hope. Not one speck of unequivocal physical evidence. "Poofed" items such as parachute heardware, parking stubs and airline tickets do not count. All the so-called evidence you have produced wouldn't support an indictment much less a conviction. People have spent much of their lives chasing the Loch Ness Monster, ghosts, alien abductors, etc. Was this wasted time? Depends on how you look at it. For some the hunt is sufficient. They dont need a capture or a kill. If Duane was DBC you have left a legacy of leads that will survive forever thanks to the Internet. If you were right you will get ample posthumous credit. Its not too late to enjoy the rest of your life without chasing Cooper. Give it a rest and take a vacation. It will still be here when you return. You've been posting hints of your imminent death for years now Jo and I am pleased that you seem to be outliving all of them. As I see it you have spent nearly two decades in passionate pursuit of a goal, proving that Duane was Cooper. Passion is a gift Jo and you lack for nothing in this department. Lets say you had just shrugged off Duane's death bed admission and lived your life doing something else. Would it have been much better? More satisfying? More passionate? I think you have lived a passionate intense life in your pursuit of the truth about Duane. Don't knock it. It may have been a lot more satisfying than travelling, playing Bridge and other common golden years pursuits. You've never had to experience isolation, you are a central part of a vibrant vital community albeit mostly online. So try taking a different perspective Jo, one that celebrates your pursuit rather than denigrating it. I'd have never known you if not for your Cooper involvment and I enjoy your company a lot. I am sure others share that opinion, even those who, like me, disagree with your thesis that Duane was Cooper. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver.
