  1. Did a tandem when I was 18, started AFF this summer when I was 19. I have few financial obligations so I was able to get a job this summer and spend all the money I made on getting my license. It's a shame it's so expensive, I'd love to get other people my age involved in it
  2. I've done 12 jumps and don't remember breathing on any I guess I am, but I just don't realize it. A friend who went on a tandem said he had some trouble breathing.
  3. awesome! Once I get licensed and get decent at RW I want to get a 2-way filmed at sunset. It look so pretty from up there.
  4. I know most people will say "grab the grass", "hold up your hand", "tie your shoes", or "stick a shoe up your ass" when you get the "what if your reserve doesn't work?" question. But would you really just accept it and go with it? I'm just a student, but the way I see it, I know there are two parachutes in my rig and they're just not coming out. So what ideally I'd like to do is just try to do something to get them out (Reach around with a hook knife and start cutting my container open or something like that) I know you wouldn't really have much time to try something but I would at least feel good dying knowing that I never stopped trying. Also, have there ever been any total malfunctions on reserves? I haven't heard of any incidents where there were two total malfuctions in the limited time I've been looking into fatalities. Justin Who is realizing this sport is a little more dangerous than I first though....
  5. Lesson 2 : Wear a cup. I learned that lesson the hard way
  6. here's a funny joke to play on someone. Go into a bathroom and sit in a stall next to a guy who is on another stall. Start saying stuff like "hey buddy what's up? How's it comin over there? Want to get a beer after this?" If he says anything in response to you, say "sorry I got to go, some asshole in the other stall thinks I'm talking to him, I'll call you later"
  7. I finished AFF today with level 6 and 7. With my diving exit on level 6, I became stable almost instantly. This was the first freefall I actually enjoyed. I did a back loop, and 3 360's and was finished by 7500 and just fell stable until 5500 where I turned 180 from center, did foward movement for a few seconds and pulled. I stood up on the landing and got within about 30 yards of my target. Level 7 I had a different instructor. I did a poised exit out of a C182 and it actually took about 6-8 seconds to get stable. After I got stable I did a barrel roll and 2 360's. I was suppose to do foward movement and dock with my instructor but I wasn't going anywhere. He told me I actually wasn't doing the foward movement right. Funny that the other two instructors never told me that. I turned 180, pulled, and had my first fall on landing. Funny how I've stood up on AFF 1-6 but fell on my last one? They actually gave me a rig with a 210 in it for this one as opposed to the 260 I was jumping earlier. I landed about 20-30 yards from the target on that too, and it was a very soft landing. I can't wait to do some solos now and not have to worry about an instructor watching and scrutinizing everything I do.
  8. Adrenaline Air Sports in Jonesville is my home dropzone. It has two C182's, a grass runway, and you literally take off and land in a guy's back yard in a residential neighborhood. It is an awesome place with awesome people.
  9. My first tandem, my ears hurt for hours afterwards and I felt nauseous the whole canopy flight down. Don't worry, it goes away very quickly. You'll only feel nauseous with the tandems, it's how they do the leg straps I'm told. They cut off the circulation in your legs and make you feel sick. My TI told me "this harness is made for safety, not comfort". Regular harnesses don't do that. Do continue the sport and do AFF! It took me 6 months between my first and second tandem to decide if i wanted to continue because I didn't have that much fun on my first tandem. My second tandem was much better, and AFF is 50 times more fun than tandems.
  10. My ears hurt after my first tandem a lot. The second one, only a tiny bit, and the rest of my jumps they didn't hurt at all. If you decide to continue the sport I'm sure you'll be fine, but go see a doctor and like they said, don't jump with a head cold. I had a bad cold one time on a commercial plane ride and when I was landing, I seriously thought my head was going to explode. I'm a SCUBA diver so I know how to equalize the pressure, and when I did, my ears whistled! Can anyone explain why your ears pop when you drive down a mountain or descent in a plane but they don't pop when you plummet through the sky?
  11. Hey there I'm a Virginia Tech student who discovered last year that they have a skydiving club. I did one tandem in october of 03, another tandem in april of 04, and this summer I've been doing my AFF. I'm on level V right now and hope to finish AFF by next weekend. I love being under canopy (have stood up on every landing ) but find myself becoming more and more frustrated every jump while in free fall. I have very poor leg awareness (I have to do toe taps thoughout the entire jump), and I also have trouble with finding a heading. I still have the "tunnel vision" effect where I really can't see much besides what is directly in front of me (my instructor). Just wanted to say Hi!
