  1. Even reading posts about quitting smoking gives me the chills. My big plan is to quit on new years day after a night of excessive smoking so that i feel quite shitty in the morning. Then I'm going to take the money that I am saving (I'm figuring out how much I spend a week right now) and I'm putting it towards AFF/AFP. Good motivation. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, Wow…what a ride!
  2. Albert Einstein - I'd see what he thought about gravity after the jump! It's all relative afterall. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, Wow…what a ride!
  3. Glad you had an excellent jump. Way to work through the fear. It's so great for me to be able to watch you go through this (Jeth and I work together). That way when it's my turn in March I'll have a leg up on things. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, Wow…what a ride!
  4. I didn't get my tattoo for skydiving, but I figure it is pretty appropriate for a skydiver. I have a four leaf clover on my back. Since I'm just starting out I'll definitely wait before getting one that is more related to skydiving. But all skydivers should get the four leaf clover - brings you luck! Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, Wow…what a ride!
  5. I have a page dedicated to my first jump - on July 10, 2004 - on the web complete with story and pics. Check it out! Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, Wow…what a ride!
  6. I'll take that as a compliment. Afterall, it takes one to know one. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, Wow…what a ride!
  7. That's rather surprising that a TM can't catch up to you. I read it in a book somewhere...I'll try to find it again. It was the same book that told me that if s/he caught you it still wouldn't help at all. Thanks for setting the record straight. And Jonsman - A rookie can be scared of messing up and be worried about gear. Actually, it probably should be a prerequisite that a rookie be worried about pretty much everything to an extent.
  8. I thought the jumpsuit smelled a bit funny. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, Wow…what a ride!
  9. If you want to keep this in the particular context of skydiving or any place there is competition, then I would say that women tend to not get along with other women because of the stereotypes against women. We have to work harder and be better than are male counterparts just to get the same level of respect. This can be seen in the way people are "surprised" when a woman accomplishes something that is seen as being "male." In order to get ourselves to a higher level in others' opinions, we also have to be more "like a man." Hence, we hang out with the boys instead of the girls so that we are not seen as being girlie or overly feminine. It sux. Women should stop this nonsense. There is absolutely no equality when women have to "act like men." I've seen a real girlie girl take on a rock with her bare hands like it was nothing and joke about breaking a nail afterwards. You can be female - and have female friends - and still succeed at "manly" activities. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, Wow…what a ride!
  10. *makes mental note to bring glasses on her next jump* well atleast my fear isn't unfounded then. although i still have no idea why - of all I could be worried about - this is what is fixated in my mind. absolutely excellent that you didn't lose your contact. they're expensive suckers these days. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, Wow…what a ride!
  11. I am also interested in hearing the explanation of this SDC Beer Rule...being said friend who landed with her legs on the pavement. Apparently we overshot our landing a bit. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, Wow…what a ride!
  12. I thought I would put a real rookie's opinion in here. Gear failure is currently my only worry about skydiving. My first jump - not even a week ago - I kept wondering ..... If I detach from my tandem master, can he catch up to me? Well, the answer is yes. But he won't be able to hang on to me when he pulls. Glad I didn't quite realize that prior to the jump. I'm going on my second jump August 21. I've lost the fear of coming detached from the tandem master. Now I have a strange fear that the glasses are going to blow off my face and my contact's going into the back of my eye. Talk about a ridiculous fear. It's not like that'll kill ya even if it does by chance happen. I'm sure I'll be more comfortable with gear fear once I learn more about the sport and start doing things myself/helping in gear checks.
  13. Speaking of rookies...here's another one. Hey Jeth! Thought I'd stop in and say hello and thanks for taking me skydiving. Hey JustaBill! Trish - one of the girls with Jeth on Saturday.
  14. I usually get the urge to stab someone in the eye with the cellphone when they are using the friggin two-way. This appears to be a major affliction of Nextel users. Not only do I not want to hear one side of a pointless cell phone conversation...I really really really do not want to hear two sides. The typical place for this to happen is on the elevated train in Chicago. We're all packed in like sardines and then someone feels a need to talk on their walkie talkie. Annoying
  15. Hi everyone! I'm Trish and I just jumped for my first time on July 10. I immediately fell in love with skydiving. I just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I'm sure I'll see you around the forums. Any Chicago skydivers? Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, Wow…what a ride!
