  1. Here we go! 1) Lat: 34:13:22S (-34.2229) Lon: 150:40:12E (150.6701) (it's about 12km outside Picton, by the junction of Picton Rd and the Hume Highway. http://www.multimap.com/wi/browse.cgi?lat=-34.2229&lon=150.6701&scale=25000&icon=x) 2) None. It's a private dirt strip 3) Sydney Skydiving 4) Australia 5) None, though it's known in the skydiving community as Picton. edited for clarity
  2. I've been hunting around, and I don't believe Picton, Toogoolawah, or Nagambie have ICAO codes. I'll be at Picton this weekend, and I'll see if I can get the GPS co-ords from Phil Onis or one of the pilots.
  3. That's a hell of a lot of beer owed Well done!
  4. Australia operates year-round. I'd be surprised if California and Florida didn't operate pretty much all the time too. I wouldn't be particularly comfortable with any international numbers. I'd take USPA + BPA + APF + whomever else has a defined and reliable reporting system, and use those. The numbers are small enough that +/- one fatality is >5% change...
  5. Congratulations. It's always difficult to walk away from a high-paying / high-status job. Now I can hit you up for all the difficult-to-implement stuff that's been bouncing around in my head :-)
  6. Whatever about what happens to your rig, wear water-tight goggles! A pH of 3 means you'll be swimming in something that in terms of acidity lies between lemon juice and orange juice. Ouchy.
  7. I set mine for break-off, pull, and my hard-deck. Then I know that if I hear the beeps before I turn/deploy/unstow my brakes, I've fucked up. Keeps me honest.
  8. If you chase to Cypres altitude, that means that you're going to be within a couple of feet of the other jumper when both your reserves come out. Chances of a wrap/entanglement are very very high. How do you deal with that at 400ft when both of you are under reserves and the other jumper is unconscious?
  9. Exactly. Edit: Glad to know I'm not hallucinating, and that it's a bug rather than a "bug".
  10. I'm running Firefox 0.9.3 on WinXP SP2. Also reproducible on the same machine using IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158. For the record, the second bug relates to the classifieds page having a of "Dropzone.com Forums: Reviews: bob.dino" instead of "Dropzone.com Forums: Classifieds: sangiro".
  11. Mid-thirties. My DZ heavily encourages jumpers to have their own gear. There are a few sport rental rigs, but being 6' 3" meant that I couldn't fit in 'em.
  12. Case One: 1- Open a user's profile. 2- Click on "Reviews". 3- The html title of the page contains my nick rather than that of the user whose reviews I'm browsing. Case Two: 1- Open a user's profile. 2- Click on "Classifieds". 3- The html title contains the word "Reviews" rather than "Classifieds", as well as having my nick instead of that of the other user.
  13. The higher you are, the less dense the air. This most certainly does affect the handling of your canopy. Page 8 of the Australian Parachute Federation's High Performance Canopy Handling Manual (http://www.apf.asn.au/apf_admin/downloads/hpcanopyhandling.pdf) explains this better than I could. In fact, I'd highly recommend the manual to all novice skydivers. As for my experience, I've 110 jumps to my name, and there's no way I'd jump a 1.35 wingloading. If I'd attempted to buy/jump a canopy of that size after 30-odd jumps, the instructors (and by extension the DZSO) would have prevented me from doing so. And smacked me 'round the head for being so bloody stupid :-) Good luck to both you guys - get well soon, and remember that this is supposed to be fun, not a contest to see who can piss highest.
  14. To reproduce: - Open the fatalities database. - Open a fatality report. - Click on "Send us an update". This prompts the user to send an email to "[email protected]". Sent mail to this address is bounced with the following error: Tuesday, 03 August 2004, 15:41:07 (2) Failed to send to identified host, [mail.dropzone.com], 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable [email protected] [SMTP server error] --- Message non-deliverable.
  15. To work in a bar in Sydney you need to have an RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) certificate. I believe it's a one day course ("If you serve a pissed person, you can be fined AUD$5000. So don't") and usually costs about AUD$60. Some venues may require the RCG (Responsible Gaming) certificate, related to video poker / fruit machines / sports betting. Again, not too hard to acquire. As for the actual job, if your son goes into any backpacker's hostel there'll be a pile of free magazines listing jobs and job agencies for temporary visitors. For pub work he should just walk in and ask. All is visa-dependant though - check his entitlements on http://www.immi.gov.au. edit: Sydney isn't cheap, and the USD is weak against the AUD. His needs will probably be greater than he or you realise :-)
